Chapter 28 - Chapter 28: The Steps of Pursuit

The sky hung low and overcast, and a fine drizzle fell like threads, quietly soaking the ground. The city's streets were washed clean, reflecting the glow of streetlights, as if covered with a thin layer of silver. Chen Shanyi's figure appeared especially lonely in the misty rain. She walked through the crowd with determined eyes, but there was also a trace of confusion within her.

Her mind was filled with countless questions—her father's identity, the true purpose of the mysterious organization, and the mission she herself was burdened with. Everything intertwined, almost overwhelming her.

Yet, no matter how entangled her thoughts were, reality continued to push forward as usual. She had to continue on her journey, heading toward the answer that belonged to her. She knew that every step she took would bring her closer to the truth.

She passed through a series of busy streets until she reached an inconspicuous old building. The outer walls of the building were aged, the marks of time deeply etched into every inch of the surface. The sign at the entrance had become worn and almost unreadable.

This building was the place the mysterious man had guided her to find. Chen Shanyi took a deep breath and climbed the stairs. She didn't know why she was here, perhaps it was some kind of calling, or, as the mysterious man had said, perhaps it was all destined.

Upon entering the building, a heavy atmosphere greeted her, the air thick with the smell of mildew, as though no one had cared for the place in years. The corridor was dimly lit, with only the occasional flickering of broken light bulbs casting a faint glow. Without hesitation, Chen Shanyi walked straight toward the end of the corridor.

There, she found an unremarkable room. The door had no markings, just an ordinary wooden door. She gently pushed it open, and everything inside seemed frozen, so quiet that it made one almost forget the passage of time.

Inside the room was an old desk, cluttered with yellowed books and an old computer. In the corner of the room, Chen Shanyi saw a strange device—metal and glass intertwined, with a unique shape, almost like some ancient instrument.

She approached the desk and extended her hand to lightly touch the device. The moment her fingers made contact with the metal surface, the device emitted a faint vibration, and the screen lit up, displaying lines of rapidly scrolling code.

"This is..." A flash of doubt crossed her eyes as she observed the information. It seemed like there was something she could interpret from it, but it still appeared too complicated.

At that moment, the sound of light footsteps came from the doorway. Chen Shanyi turned quickly, her gaze locking on the figure in the doorway.

"You've finally come." The voice remained calm, but carried a familiar chill.

Her heart jolted, and she couldn't help but take a sharp breath—standing in the doorway was none other than the mysterious man.

"You..." Her voice trembled, despite having expected this meeting, the shock still caused her to lose control momentarily.

The mysterious man stepped into the room, his movements light and soundless, as if he were part of the very space itself. "I knew you would come." His gaze didn't settle on her face but was fixed on the device on the desk. "This is something your father left behind. It will guide you to the next clue."

Chen Shanyi took a deep breath, forcing her emotions into control. She stood up, walked toward the mysterious man, and looked him in the eye, a hint of determination in her gaze. "What is all this? Who exactly is my father? Why did he keep these truths hidden from me? Why didn't he tell me?"

The mysterious man stared at her, his eyes flashing with complex emotions. "Your father didn't intentionally conceal these things. You just couldn't understand his decisions when you didn't yet comprehend the full picture." He paused, as if pondering how to explain the next steps. "Do you know? The blood running through your veins has already destined you to become entangled with certain forces in this world."

Chen Shanyi was stunned. "My blood? What do you mean?"

The mysterious man smiled faintly, his eyes tinged with sadness. "Your father wasn't an ordinary person. His identity is completely different from what you've always believed. And you, as his daughter, carry a power far beyond that of an ordinary human."

Chen Shanyi's mind buzzed. She couldn't believe what she was hearing. Her doubts only deepened. Her father wasn't a normal person? Then what about her? What connection did her life have with this mysterious power?

"Now, only through this device can you find more clues." The mysterious man pointed to the device, which was still running. "You will see your father's last message. This message might be the key to unraveling all the mysteries."

Chen Shanyi's gaze once again turned to the glowing screen. The scrolling code had stopped, replaced by a single line of clear text:

"Chen Shanyi, your future will be something you cannot predict. What I have left for you is not just an inheritance, but a history that is destined to change the world."

Her heart sank, as if something deep within her had awakened. The words on the screen, which she had never seen before, seemed to have already been deeply engraved in her memory.

"What does this mean?" She asked softly, almost not daring to believe her own eyes.

The mysterious man looked at her, his expression complex. "What you will face is not only the mystery your father left behind, but also the forces that have been watching you in the shadows." He paused. "And you, have already reached the crossroads of fate."

As his words fell, the air in the room seemed to grow heavier. A strong premonition rose in Chen Shanyi's chest—an unavoidable storm was closing in on her.
