Ben found himself bleeding on his bed as he woke up, as he did everyday, he went to the bathroom to cover the scars, though they had never been this deep, they hurt a lot, but he just put bandages over them
While he was staring at himself in the mirror, he thought to himself, maybe he was exaggerating? What if he was seriously going insane and only he could see the scars? After all, no one had ever pointed them out
As he kept thinking of any possible scenario, he imagined if he ever told someone about the nightmares
He imagined the voices
"Doesn't everyone have nightmares though?" "You're overreacting"
That's all he could hear.
He just finished covering everything up, got dressed and went to school
As he walked through the streets, his breath was struggling to stay, he felt like he was going to faint at any moment, he reached school, went to his class and sat down, Kate was already there.
"Good morning ben! Slept well?"
She had a smile on her face as she spoke, her smile scared ben a little
"Yeah yeah I slept good"
He didn't bother saying anything else, he just sat down and waited for class to start
"You know" the girl kept talking, "I've been thinking about you all day yesterday"
Ben just gave her a rude look
"Don't look at me like that! You're just a really cute boy, how are you even still single?"
"I'm not interested at all, can you please shut up?"
The girl just laughed
"Oh my oh my, what a weird sight this is, a guy who doesn't want a relationship or anything! You're truly different"
She sounded deeply sarcastic, before continuing to speak
"Would you like to go out for lunch after school today? My treat"
Ben just nodded in reply, and soon after class started
During the class, they both stayed focused, though Kate sometimes seemed to look at him deeply.
When classes were over, they left the school together walking side by side, talking
"so where should we eat?" Ben asked her
"What do you think of the Mexican restaurant? It's my favorite type of food"
"Sure I like spicy stuff"
"Oh really? So we do have something in common after all!"
They both laughed and kept walking, a friendship was definitely forming
They reached the restaurant, sat down and ordered
"So what do you think of the city so far?" Ben asked kate
"Personally I think it's cute! It has lots of cute guys and cute stores, I expected worse"
"Really? I don't think the guys look that good"
"You really can't speak on that unless you're gay"
".. That doesn't make sense even"
".. You get my point no?"
".. I don't"
Their food arrived, and they began eating
"Do you take part in any afternoon courses at school?" She asked him
"On Fridays i go to the theatre course, how about you?"
"I've been thinking about going to that one! Do you recommend it?"
"I sure do!"
They kept talking and eating for 2 hours, then they left the restaurant after paying
"I'll see you tomorrow at school then, ben"
"See you tomorrow"
He walked to his house, and directly went to his room to study and do his work

Time passed, it was soon night
He laid his head down on his pillow, and fell back into the nightmare, but it was a different place.. Empty place, only a dark figure
The dark figure just spoke, not even moving towards him
"So you don't want to give up yet? If I were you I would've already given up on life, but you.. You have such a courage, really, I'm jealous, what do you even live for?"
A voice said, it sounded always so familiar..
"I don't know what i live for. Probably my family, or my friends, or art"
"they all sound like valid reasons, but I'm sure the people would be happier if you were just.. Gone, and art can exist without you"
All those words hit Ben like a knife.
He couldn't stand them anymore, he tried his best to wake up
And in fact did, though it was 4am.
At least he didn't get hurt this night, but that won't last long.
