Chapter 1 - This character.... is so poor

"Ughh... Uweeeeeeeeeeeeeee!"The shrill scream of a young man echoed through the cold, empty room. Lewis, who had been sound asleep, suddenly woke up from a strange dream, his head throbbing as if he had just processed an immense amount of information. His body was paralyzed, unable to move, with the only sensation being the relentless headache."Ughh... Ugh," groaned Lewis. In his dazed state, he tried to regain control of his lost senses. His body felt as if a ton of weights were pressing down on him. It reminded him of the time he passed out due to a head injury during a football match—conscious yet unable to move."What the hell is this? Sleep paralysis?" Slowly regaining his senses, Lewis tried to stand up, only to lose his balance and crash to the ground. Gradually, his vision adjusted to the darkness, and despite the pain, he strained to observe his surroundings."What? The structure of this room feels strange." After a moment, his stomach churned violently, compelling Lewis to vomit out his dinner. Somehow finding the strength, he stumbled to the bathroom to retch violently."Ugh... I don't remember drinking any alcohol... But the bigger problem is—where the hell am I???" Frustrated by the bizarre situation, Lewis paced around the room, trying to process the flood of information in his mind."Is this a dream? No, my head is killing me, but why am I in such a strange place?" Turning to the window, he caught a glimpse of his reflection—a completely unfamiliar face that nearly made him scream."???... Isn't this the character Oz from the game I was just playing? So, I've transmigrated? But he's just a minor character in a daily quest with no real backstory." Despite his chaotic thoughts, a mischievous grin crept onto Lewis's face. The thought of being transported to another world made him momentarily forget the headache."If this is Oz, then that means—" Before he could finish, the door to Lewis's room creaked open. A small figure entered, holding a stuffed bunny in her arms."Big brother? It's late, why are you making such a racket? You're disturbing my sleep!" The little girl pouted angrily and hurled the stuffed animal at Lewis, leaving him flustered and unsure of how to respond."Uh, um... Alice? I just fell off the bed while sleeping, sorry about that." Lewis bowed slightly, picking up the stuffed animal and gently returning it to Alice, his face full of remorse."Tch— I know you're excited about being accepted into the magic academy, but don't disturb other people's sleep, got it? You should rest too, morning's the big day!" She snatched the bunny back, stuck her tongue out teasingly, and exited the room."This little brat—" Lewis exhaled heavily and tried to piece together his thoughts. The plot never mentioned Oz attending a magic academy, yet Alice claimed he had received an acceptance letter."Hmmm, the more I think about it, the stranger it gets...""Ahh... I remember now! During a quest involving Oz, if you find his pocket watch, it triggers a scene where Oz invites you into his home to thank you. Yes, I saw a school uniform hanging in the corner back then.""But he never mentioned being part of the academy, and the game only describes him as a regular civilian..." As Lewis pondered, a droplet of water unexpectedly dripped onto his head, startling him."I see. This Oz guy... He's just too poor to afford the tuition." Lewis covered his face with a sigh of exasperation."But the salary for becoming a magic wizard is really high. It could lift Oz and Alice out of this poverty. I can't believe a cute girl like Alice has to live in such a rundown house.""I won't end up like you, Oz. I'll graduate from the magic academy and help you and your sister escape this life of poverty." A sly smile spread across Lewis's face.In the rhythmic dripping of water from the old house, Lewis resolved to push his thoughts aside and return to bed."At least if you come back to this body, you'll still have a happy life with your sister.""But for now... sleep comes first. Sleep is innocent."
