The night sky was filled with stars, its dazzling moonlight hidden above the dark clouds covering it.
Dylan stood at the edge of the Black Sheep law firm, one of the most prestigious law firms in the country. His hair whipped against the wind, water beads beating against his face.
"It's raining?" Dylan mumbled, his attention shifting toward the dark clouds. "Will that make the fall less painful?"
His dull gaze fell to the bustling streets below, cars going back and forth. It felt like the world was too busy to look his way and see the pain he had endured all his life.
From a nerd to an orphan, to a man who worked three jobs just to stay in college. Years pass by; he finally gets a good-paying job, finds love, and gets engaged, only to catch her in the act with his boss a few months before the wedding.
"I was a fool for dating a coworker. I should have been suspicious of how fast she rose up the ranks." Dylan chuckled bitterly, his palm shoving his wet hair back.
"Dad, mum… Wait for me." Dylan shut his eyes and jumped.
Swish!
The whistling sound of the wind filled his ears as the wind pressed against his bare face, making breathing a bit difficult. Dylan opened his eyes, hoping to see the colorful world again, but the darkness blocking his vision remained.
Dylan could feel the wind pressure; he could tell he was still falling, but why couldn't he see anything?
Was the heavens also going to rob him of this as well?
Ding!
The familiar sound of his phone message notification rang in his head. A strange-looking panel appeared ahead of him, letters popping up one after the other in rapid succession.
{The heavens have abandoned you, the Abyss extends its hands, will you take it?}
{Yes/No}
{Warning, you have 3 seconds to decide}
'The Abyss?'
'What's that?'
'Why is that?'
Dylan had a lot of questions but no time for answers.
"Yes… Yes, I'll take it!" Dylan screamed decisively.
—
Dylan found himself hovering in mid-air, the scorching rays of the afternoon sun fixated solely on his figure.
"What's this?" Dylan's gaze darted around, trying to make sense of his surroundings.
It was 9:45 pm when he got to the company roof, so how could it be morning already?
Dum… Dum… Dum-Dum!
DUM-dum-dum... DUM-dum-dum!
Slow and ominous beats of war drums caused the world to tremble. Its slow beat gained tempo and transitioned to a faster, more aggressive pace.
"What the hell?" Dylan cursed, covering his ears with his palm while his left eye squinted with pain.
The drums were deafening, too much for the human eardrums to handle.
Dylan's face reddened, his gaze fixated on the liquid darkness flowing below. The entire world was covered in darkness, the skies were the only exception to this.
"Finally, the hour has come when this devil will consume the heavens!"
The words rolled out like thunder, booming across the skies as the darkness below twisted and turned unnaturally. From the darkness, a figure the size of a mountain emerged.
The face emerging from the Abyss was big enough to cover the earth.
Two jagged horns jutted from his forehead, spiraling outward like tree roots. Between them, a third eye, burning with golden light, opened and closed as if surveying the heavens with disdain.
His normal eyes burned fierce crimson eyes, his irises slitted like a serpent's. His mouth stretched impossibly wide, revealing lined rows of jagged teeth that seemed more like shards of broken glass than bone.
A mane of shadowy flames hung around his head, licking at the skies. The flames twisted with the souls of the damned, faint faces appearing and vanishing in torment within the infernal blaze.
The rest of his body was hidden beneath the liquid darkness, his cold gaze fixated on Dylan's figure.
In its presence, Dylan's brain stopped working, his heart stopped beating and his figure froze. He wasn't sweating, and his face looked calm, but he could feel fear; one so intense it was replaced by emptiness.
The kind of emptiness one felt moments before their demise.
"Feed the darkness, consume worlds, destroy the heavens. Serve your purpose, and you will enjoy power like never before." The world trembled under his voice, a crazed smile playing on his lips.
Feed the darkness
