Chapter 2 - The will

The room was filled with an air of anticipation as the lawyer, Mr. Kane, stood before them. He cleared his throat and began to speak.

"Ladies and gentlemen, we are gathered here today to read the last will and testament of the late Ethan Bartman. As the executor of his estate, it is my duty to ensure that his wishes are carried out."

Mr. Kane paused, surveying the room before continuing.

"To my beloved son, Kyle Hunter, I leave my entire estate, including all properties, businesses, and assets, totaling approximately 43.6 billion dollars. I appoint him as the sole beneficiary of my will, and I entrust him to carry on my legacy."

The room fell silent, with all eyes on Kyle. He felt a surge of shock and surprise, unsure of what to say or do.

Victoria Bartman, Ethan's estranged and separated wife, was the first to speak up. "No!" she screamed, her voice echoing through the room. "This can't be happening!"

Victoria's face turned red with rage as she glared at Kyle. "You?" she spat. "You're just a bastard child. You don't deserve any of this."

Kyle felt a surge of anger at Victoria's words, but he kept his cool. He had never met his father, and he had never expected to inherit his fortune.

The lawyer, Mr. Kane, looked at Victoria with a stern expression. "I'm afraid the will is quite clear, Mrs. Bartman," he said. "Kyle Hunter is the sole beneficiary of Mr. Bartman's estate."

Victoria's eyes narrowed. "This is a mistake," she said. "I will contest this will and make sure that Kyle never gets his hands on a single penny."

Kyle felt a surge of unease at Victoria's words. He had never expected to be in a position like this, and he wasn't sure if he was ready for the challenges that lay ahead.

As the room began to erupt into chaos, Kyle stood up and tried to make his way through the crowd. But it was clear that this was only the beginning of a long and difficult journey.

Kyle had inherited a vast fortune, but he had also inherited a whole lot of trouble. And he wasn't sure if he was ready to handle it.

As he walked out of the study, Kyle couldn't help but feel a sense of disconnection. He had just inherited a vast fortune from a man he had never met, and he couldn't help but wonder what his life would have been like if he had known him.

Kyle made his way to the library, hoping to find some answers. The room was lined with shelves, each one packed with books and documents.

As he searched through the shelves, he stumbled upon a small, sleek device. It was a video recorder, and it had a note attached to it.

He picked up the note and read it. "For Kyle," it said. "Watch this when you're ready."

He felt a surge of curiosity and trepidation. What could be on this video?

He took a deep breath and pressed play.

The screen flickered to life, and he saw his father's face staring back at him. Ethan Bartman looked older and wearier than he had expected, but his eyes still sparkled with a hint of mischief."Kyle," Ethan said, his voice low and gravelly. "I know you're watching this, and I know you're wondering why I left you everything."

He paused, taking a deep breath.

"I did it because I believe in you, Kyle. I believe that you have the potential to be a great man, and I want to give you the tools to make that happen."

He felt a lump form in his throat as he watched the video. It was the first time he had ever seen his father, and it was like a punch to the gut.

Ethan's expression turned somber, and he looked directly into the camera.

"Kyle, I want to apologize to you. I'm so sorry that I wasn't there for you growing up. I'm sorry that I didn't get to see you take your first steps, or graduate from high school. I'm sorry that I missed out on so much of your life."

He felt a tear roll down his cheek as he listened to his father's words. He had never expected to hear an apology from the man who had abandoned him.

Ethan's voice cracked with emotion as he continued to speak.

"I was wrong to leave you, Kyle. I was wrong to prioritize my business over my family. But I want you to know that I loved you, and I always will."

He felt a sense of sadness wash over him as he watched the video. He had never known his father, but in this moment, he felt a deep connection to him.

This video will not make up for all the pain I cause you and your mom, wherever she is but I do hope what I left behind will.

"Kyle, I know you may be facing some challenges in the days ahead. But I want you to know that I have faith in you. You are a strong and capable person, and I know that you will make the right decisions."

He felt a sense of determination wash over him as he watched the video. He was ready to face whatever challenges lay ahead, and to make a new life for himself as the heir to the Bartman fortune.

But as he sat there, feeling a sense of resolve, he couldn't shake the feeling that there was more to the story. That there was a reason why his father had left him everything, and why Victoria was so determined to take it away from him.

He thought about all the things he could do with the money. He could travel the world, buy a new house, or invest in his own business. The possibilities were endless.

As he sat there, lost in thought, he heard a noise coming from outside the room. It sounded like footsteps, light and gentle. He looked up, expecting to see one of the lawyers or Victoria herself. But instead, he saw the friendly face of Mrs. Glenn, the housekeeper.

"Hello, Mr. Hunter," she said, curtsying slightly. "I came to take your orders for dinner. Would you like me to bring you something to eat?"

He smiled, feeling a sense of relief wash over him. "Yes, please," he said. "I'm starving. What do you recommend?"

Mrs. Glenn smiled, her eyes twinkling. "I think the roast beef is particularly good tonight," she said. "And I can bring you some of your favorite dessert, chocolate cake."

He nodded, feeling a sense of comfort wash over him. It was nice to have someone like Mrs. Jenkins around, someone who didn't want anything from him except to make his life a little bit easier.

As Mrs. Glenn left to go prepare his dinner, he sat back in his chair, feeling a sense of peace wash over him. He was ready to face whatever challenges lay ahead, and he knew that he could count on people like Mrs. Jenkins to help him along the way.

And as he sat there, waiting for his dinner to arrive, he couldn't hel

p but think about the day it all started... the day his life took a drastic turn.
