I live in a modern society where it is the norm to see robot dogs, cars on roads in the sky, robot cops and humanoid robots used for daily assistance and roaming the streets alone. Humans have developed advanced technologies that we use to take us outerspace in highly advanced spaceships within seconds. Sometimes we wonder what more can we discover in outerspace, we have found spacerocks, plasma and gases, but no aliens or any new species that have never been seen or heard of before.
"Hey Rookie" Shouts Captain Ross
" Wake up! and get back to work."
Startled I jumped up from my nap then salutes
" Yes Sir! Captain Ross Sir"
Serena Chuckles
" Phew, I was so scared."
" Your lucky that he only shouted at you and not let you mop the floor and clean the toilets." Serena said then smiled.
I whispered under my breath " but those ARE my daily tasks."
Serena smirks
" Anyways so when can I get to go outerspace with you guys? I have joined this crew for two years now and I have never went on one of your trips outerspace, I have only heard stories and seen you guys on the big screen from your camera footages."
" You are still a rookie, relax you don't have to rush the process, I was a rookie for three years once upon a time too just like you are now and you know I was just like you, so on edge, but ready to leap at the chance and opportunity to go on trips with the team, but you know how the story goes I-"
" Yes I know and it took you two more years to prove that you were ready and blah!blah!blah!blah!ugh! I know your story you've said it a million times, but I am different I have awesome and skilled teachers, that I have been watching and observing from the sidelines, so I know what to do."
" Seeing and doing are two different things, you can see a professional who have studied and perfected their craft, do what they do and try to replicate it as a newbie, sadly it would never work out as intended you need experience and patience to master your craft and excercise your skill sets when it is your time, but for now rushing in is not ideal, because rushing in without a plan or a full understanding of the job is a dumb, suicidal, incompetent, irresponsible and risky way to go about things."
I felt defeated after hearing what my mentor had to say, she shatter all my expectations that I had set for myself and now I feel like I am at square one all over again, what is this sinking feeling, I think to myself, my heart shattered into fifty million pieces in this moment. Now I am feeling emotions that I have not felt in two years creeping up on me, a small feeling of doubt starts to touch my heart, fear sits on my head and the worst one of all .... thoughts of giving up seeps through in my mind. It is sad how quickly I went from feeling overly confident to back in my shell after receiving constructive criticism.
" Wow, I'm never going to get the chance to fly a spaceship aren't I ?" I said out loud
" Never say never, you never know if maybe someone is looking out for you, and they maybe considering, and I said considering lightly so take that with a grain of salt, I am not confirming anything so don't let it get to your head, I said maybe considering letting you tag along with us on our next trip so that you can have a once in a lifetime experience. But just know that if that does happen you will not be near the pilots, near any widows or doors, you will be in the far back of the ship with two professionally trained members of the team sitting with you and looking after you."
" So I am going be babysitted by the team, that is not cool at all, and besides all the action is up front, which means I'll be missing the most important part. So how will I have the full experience if I am not seeing everything."
" You have a good point, but we will figure it out as we go,and remember it is just a maybe so don't get too ahead of yourself."
" Thank you so much"
"Don't thank me, thank captain Ross. He's the one who said that we should consider taking you along."
" Why?"
" I don't know ask him yourself."
[YESTERDAY]
/Serena's POV /
The captain called us into a meeting so seriously, I wonder what the urgency is about.
" Okay people-"
*Whispers*
" Settle down, Settle down"
* Whispers* " I wonder what it is this time he was so serious, maybe he has something important to share."
" If you think he has something important to share then shut up" I said upset then roll my eyes, there mouths dropped to floor, because their in disbelief that I'm so cool.
"Dink some water if you may-" Captain Ross said
* Whispers*
" Can You Guys Just Shut The Hell Up!!! You guys are adults, so behave like one." I yelled
*Silence*
" Thank you Serena, now as I was about to say the boss wants us to take two rookies with us, so that they can witness firsthand, what we really go through, let them go through the same procedures and preparations we do, before we leave earth, once we are in the ship and while we are in outerspace." Capitain Ross proclaimed.
" Do we have to do this every . single . year ? every year we bring two rookies with us and either they leave after landing or their so traumatized they become afraid of us, some of them even say the have seen aliens out their, we are the pros and we have never seen any aliens nor have our most advance technology ever pick up on any alien energy or planet. In all my years of working here I've never come face to face with an alien, but their is stories going around that aliens also have advance tech like us that can erase anyone's memories if they think your a threat." Sergeant Paul claimed
" Nonsense enough with all that alien talk, aliens are just a myth, they don't exist." Captain Ross said in annoyance.
" But how will you know that they exist if you cannot remember them, hmm think about that." Sergeant Paul Proclaimed.
Captain Ross sighs, holds his head and then said " You guys are a bunch of losers, how did you guys even make it this far with that type of mindset."
*Knock-knock*
Whispers " I wonder who that may be don't they know that the captain hates been interrupted when he is talking, especially when he is in a meeting."
I rolled my eyes " That's all they do talk nonsense all day long." I said to myself.
"Maybe someones getting fired " said carolina
I burst out in laughter "Ha!ha!ha!"
Everyone then starts to stare at me
" And what is so funny cruela." - Carolina said then smiled.
I then glared at her
" All of you shut up " Captain Ross said with a look of disgust.
*Silence*
The captain opens the door
" Oh, what is it does the boss need something?" Captain Ross then eagerly awaiting an answer.
" The-" Colonel Saunders
"Wait hold on, Let's talk outside I don't want these crickets to distract me"
The captain opens the door then closes the door
Sergeant Paul and Alex rushed to eaves on the captain's conversation.
"So what were you about to say"
" The boss changed his mind and he actually want four rookies to go outerspace with your team." Colonel Saunders
" If it's okay may I ask why."
" It none of your business just do as I say"
Salutes " Yes Colonel Saunders Sir"
Colonel Saunders smiles
" I also forgot but the boss wants for specific rookies that he wants going this time."
"Okay let me hear it ."
Sergeant Paul and Alex made eye contact with a shocked look on their face, then they race back to their chair.
/ Two minutes later /
Captain Ross Opens the door, then he clears his throat, then he made his announcement.
" Everyone there's a slight change to this year's invitation, instead of bringing along only two rookies, we are actually going to bring two more with us, so in total four rookies will be joining us, some of you may already have one of have them under your wing as a mentee, so here are the name of all four rookies that will be joining us; Daniel Ford, Alicia Telis, Stacy Ash and Finster Dash. So alert your mentees and let them know what to do, when to prepare , what to take along with them and remember if they do something wrong, you did something wrong. So monitor them and let them be aware of the rules and regulations now because things have changed." - Captain Ross said
"Wait- wait- wait- WHAT! Daniel Ford is my mentee and the kids a trouble maker, I don't want to be blamed for his childish antics." Sergeant Paul
Alex burses out in laughter "Ha!ha!ha!ha"
" Hey you, it's Alex is it ?" Captain Ross asked
Alex replies with hesitation "Y-yeah"
" So your mentee is Alicia Telis so good luck with that."
" Wait why did I get a mentee? and why is it a girl, there's so many people here, WOMEN HERE, why did you choose ME, I don't know anything's about girls or women how ....
oh . my . god . I am freeking out right now, we are going to have a LOT of awkward conversations."
Everyone starts to laugh.
" Yeah- yeah- yeah, laught it up now, get it out of your system ha!ha!ha! and . It's . NOT funny."
"Calm down why are you getting so worked up for? Ha!ha!ha!ha! Were just having a bit of fun." Carolina said
"Well it's too late to change your mentee now, because now each of you can not get rid of mentee unless their dead of course but as long as their alive their your responsibility." Said Captain Ross
"So basically I'm this kids father now, treat just great." Sergeant Paul
" But boss what about the last one." Coraline asked
" Oh yeah she's yours." Captain Ross
"Pfft! " Alex burses out in laughter " ha!ha!ha!ha! "
"But sir, i-i mean captain I don't know nothing about kids, I don't even like kids."
" I already said earlier you can't change your mentee. Anyways Serena what about you how do feel that your mentee got picked? The boss asked me.
" Boss I'm confused why did you pick Finster he has only been here for two years, he is too inexperience, and easily demotivated, he's not strong enough nor experienced enough to hold a proper conversation moreover to talk about boarding a spaceship."
" I agree with what she said their just kids."- Caroline
" No Carolina- no, back to you Serena, It's just a spaceship, you and the entire team will be there and he will have other kids his age there as well so there's no need to worry. Do you have anymore concerns? " The captain asked
" No captain."
" Okay if that's all then, this meeting is adjourned." Said the captain
