While in my own world, I got interrupted by a child.
"Landon, you want to hang out with our group tonight? We found a secret place perfect for tonight."
They looked a bit older than me, a year or two. They were wearing some edgy clothes and ripped pants. I can't say I was excited to hand out with them, they looked like troublemakers, but I had to learn more about the situation I was in.
'I would be more than grateful.'
"Since when did you speak like that? it's weird." What did I even expect?
I followed these guys around for some time, gathering information. I also realized that they were the popular kids in the here. But more importantly, I found out we were test subjects in a facility, I didn't know what they were testing with us though.
An alarm rang, and all the kids happily started running.
"Sweet, lunchtime!" Ah, it was just lunch, good thing it wasn't something serious...
I almost puked, 'What kind of food is this?' I looked at the food served there. It looked disgusting. Like who could eat tarantula abdomen?
I just took a drink and sat down, the bad thing was that it didn't say what drink it was. I of course guessed it was water. So I took a sip.
...
Leaving the bathroom after a battle with the toiled I realized it wasn't water. 'When was the last time I barfed?'
I learned later that it was distilled rat piss. What kind of facility was this?
"London! I finally found you."
It was a girl, her hair was black and her eyes were yellow. My face greened a bit as her eyes reminded me a bit of the rat piss.
"All you alright? Your acting strange today."'
'Yes, I-I am' Speaking was truly a challenge while trying to not vomit my intestines out.
"Why were you hanging out with those guys?" Hm? Was she talking about the popular edgy kids?
'I shouldn't have?'
"Yes! They are always mean to our group, and they always take our spots at night."
What was so hard about finding a sleeping place? Just sit on the floor and close your eyes.
"You know having a powerful monster as your contract doesn't mean you are better than us."
This girl had some guts talking to the... wait did she say contract? But no one here looked old enough for their bodies to handle a contact. The age of sixteen was put for a reason.
'Alright, I'm sorry.'
It took a while of convincing to finally make her leave me alone. She was apparently the leader of our group, "The Future Heroes" What a childish name. But what could you expect from some kids living in these conditions?
When she left it was my time. My time to figure out everything... how did contracts work again? I never made one so I'm not used to it.
'Do I have to make a weird sign with my hand?'
I made many hand signs. I hope no one here knows sign language, as I probably accidentally cursed an entire family while trying to check my contract.
As night was approaching I went to where the girl said our group was, good thing I asked her before she left.
It wasn't a big group, around five kids without me. I can't say that they had any interesting features. Made me wonder what I looked like.
"London, what took you so long." One of the kids asked.
'I had to go to the bathroom.'
"We don't have time for questions David, as much as I also want to ask some." Our leader interrupted. And then we left.
I followed them to a small weird square-shaped spot on the group. As soon as we stepped inside a green light started glowing from the cracks that formed the square shape.
'Weird.' But that wasn't the only weird thing, the first day had almost passed and nothing bad had happened. Why? Wasn't this supposed to be the hardest difficulty?
Seeing as everyone else was going to sleep I decided to do the same. There was no reason for me to stay awake.
...
In the middle of the night, something happened... I had to pee. Peeing as a human was weird, very weird. Needless to say, I wasn't a fan, but you have to do what you have to do.
When I got done I left the bathroom, and as no one was around me to feel insulted by whatever I will accidentally say, I tried checking my contract again.
And good this no one was around as I probably looked like an idiot.
I sighed with defeat. But then I noticed a bear claw coming toward me, when I looked to see where it was coming from I saw a horde of monsters. Of course I couldn't just pass the first day without a casualty.
I started running, I had to, I couldn't die. I didn't want my reason for death to be because I couldn't hold back my pee.
I saw a group of kids sleeping in one of the square-shaped spots, I could use them as meat shields as I escaped. But instead of attacking them, the monsters ignored them.
Then everything made sense. These spots weren't for sleeping but safe places, that's why everyone was fighting for them.
