Chapter 2 - Chapter - 1 And Then I Woke Up Dead

Mitsuragi's Point Of View

*SPLAT!*

"Ugh!"

*SQUISH!*

"Bastard! How could you!?"

*STAB!*

My name is Mitsuragi. Until a few moments ago, I was just your average salary man with no definitive future. I lived a quiet life, and kept my head down most of the time to avoid problems.

I went to work, came home, watched some anime, cooked dinner, and went to bed at a sort of reasonable time. I've never had a girlfriend, but I had one good friend that I talked to and hung out with on the weekends sometimes.

Oh? What's that sound you ask? Just your classic case of mistaken identity. Unfortunately for me, this woman brought a knife, and I'm probably going to die soon. I don't really have any lingering feelings or regrets in this world, so I won't miss it. I just hope that the afterlife is full of hot guys to look at, and maybe I can finally get laid.

"Stop that you crazy bitch! What the hell are you doing?! Who the hell even are you!?" Makki was yelling at my assailant.

I could no longer speak cohesive words, my body was becoming increasingly colder. Someone should have definitely call the ambulance after the first stab.

"I am his wife! Who are you, you slut!" The woman yelled hysterically.

"That's not possible! We've been friends since middle school, and Mitsuragi has never liked women, you dumb bitch!"

"Wait... Mitsuragi? Not... Jozěy?"

"NO! What have you done, you Psycho!"

"Ma'am the police and ambulance are on the way!"

'It's too late for that now... far too late...'

Oh well, at least I don't feel pain anymore. Hmm? Who knew there was an actual light at the end of the tunnel...? How crazy is that? Well, nothing left to do but walk through. I guess...

'Goodbye Makki, you were the best friend a guy like me could have asked for. Thanks for being there for me in the end.'

A New Lease On Life

"Congratulations Mayvis! It's a beautiful healthy boy!"

"Daxym! Come in here! It's a boy!"

"Oh honey! You did a great job! He's perfect! What will you name him?"

"Well, I do like the name you chose. Abyss, sounds like a strong name. And who knows maybe he'll grow up to be an adventurer just like us..."

"I love it honey. I love you too!"

'What the actual fuck is happening right now? Where the hell is this? Surely not the afterlife.... and did she say an adventurer?!'

"Well M'Lady I think he's beginning to get a bit fussy, he must be hungry. We'll leave you to it... Congratulations again M'Lady."

"Thank you all..."

'No... No, No, No, No, No! Please for the love of God don't tell me...'

"The Marqueed will be here in 3 days to congratulate us as well as the other royal family members... They're no doubt losing their minds that he came earlier than expected. You be sure to get some rest Mayvis, they'll rake me over the coals if you look the slightest bit fatigued."

"Haha. It can't be helped, Daxym. The Duke sent his response as well, he too will be here in 3 days."

'No... A Marqueed? A Duke? Please tell me this is not happening!!'

"Haaah... They would allow all of Sa'Handria to celebrate his birth if they could..."

'Sa'Handria? Haaah... fuck me... I was right... I've been fucking isekaied!'

Abyss's Point Of View

7 Years Later

Life in this world has been a gigantic pain. For starters, I'm not sure if the God of rebirth has a sick sense of humor or what, but the rate at which I absorb information is unnatural.

I'm also the second born son of a Dutchess, who happens to be the youngest sister to the current king. My uncle is an enormous pain in the ass, and a massive child. How this country is still running, is anyone's guess.

My older brother Sigghfreid is an asshole of epic proportions. Due to me absorbing information at an astonishing rate, I've surpassed him in nearly all of my school studies. He's three years older than me, and clearly has never known the meaning of the word, karma.

Today marks my 7th birthday and the grand party of a lifetime. My entire family is going to be coming, because today is also the day that I recive my divine blessing. I haven't told anyone that I have memories from a past life, because there was no telling how that would go in a world full of magic.

But due to the fact that magic is an option, I have been subtly changing the way they live their lives here. Once I was old enough to eat on my own, the food was the first thing I changed.

Even though we were considered a wealthy family, the bread was hard as hell, and the soups were basically hot water, with mushy vegetables in it. It was appalling. And don't even get me started on the meat. They basically burned it in a fire pit until it was dry and tough. Even beef jerky was a more appealing dinner idea than the meat they served.

My parents and the servants just assumed I was a prodigy and left it at that but honestly, I had a long way to go to improve my way of life here.

In my previous life, I hated the isekai genre of animes. They almost always fell into one of two categories. An Over Powered MC that one shot his way to the boss, or the harem of busty damsels. I wanted no part in any of that, not in my past life and certainly not now.

In this life, my parents were nobles, but they also used to have an adventurer party and hunted monsters. I didn't want to do anything as terrifying as hunting monsters, but apparently that wasn't up to me to decide.

"Abyss hunny! It's time to go."

"Coming mother!" I yelled back from the top of the stairs.

I hurried down the grand staircase and out the door. The horse drawn carriages were waiting out front. My father, Daxym was the Captain of the Royal Guard, and my mother, Mayvis was your typical pampered princess.

As I climbed into the carriage my brother slapped me on the back of the head. This too was apparently his usual greeting to me. To say I was used to it would be a lie. He was annoying, and I was looking forward to him moving out as soon as frikkin possible.

"Idiot! We're going to be late because of you! How can you be late to your own Acceptance Ceremony? I hope the gods punish you for your hubris!" Sigghfreid grumbled.

"Now, Now... Siggy, stop hitting your brother. We aren't that late, so it's fine." Mother said, with a warm smile.

"He's like this because you dote on him too much! He probably spent too long having the servants brush his long girly tresses! Seriously!? Are you even sure he's a boy? He's way to effeminate to be a real man!" Sigghfreid yelled.

'Ah... big brother is just jealous... great... juuust great... I can't fix my face, asshole...'

I wasn't completely sure why Sigghfreid hated me, I just chopped it up to him hating a rival in the line of succession, but it turns out he's just mad because I was heavily blessed in the looks department.

In my opinion I looked like your average villain. My hair was as white as snow, and my eyes were a deep green, but most alarming of all was that my eyes changed colors depending on my mood. My mother discovered it when I was an infant. Stranger still, they didn't treat it as an oddity. In fact, they thought it was a blessing from the Gods apparently.

"Sigg. That's enough! You will behave yourself, and conduct yourself like a proper noble! You are much to old to throw tantrums like this!" My father said, scolding Sigghfreid.

"Hmph! Not my fault he's so frikkin girly!" Sigghfreid scoffed.

We finally pulled up to the enormous cathedral and I was in awe at the sight of it all. It had 8 massive stone statues leading up to the stairs. Four men and four women from the looks of things.

"I'm so excited to see what God or Goddess grants you their blessing!" My mother said, excitedly.

"I was given the blessing of the Wind Goddess." My father bragged.

"I was granted a blessing by the Goddess of Light." My mother added.

"I was given the blessing of the Fire God! It's a great power for offensive battling!" My brother gloated.

"Honestly, I'll just be happy with whatever small blessing they give me. I don't want to fight in pointless wars, I don't want to be an adventurer, I'd rather live a simple life away from trouble..." I grumbled.

"HA! PATHETIC! I told you he wasn't a real man!" Sigghfreid scoffed.

I didn't really care what he thought. As someone who had already been stabbed to death once, and was currently on their 2nd try at life, I'd rather live comfortably and away from danger. Call it cowardice or call it laziness, I didn't care. Getting killed sucked, and who's to say there would even be a 3rd chance?

"Well, whatever blessing you recieve, be sure to thank the deity for their protection. You never want to offend the Gods, son." My father said, picking me up out of the carriage and setting me on the ground.

As someone who wanted to live a peaceful life, pissing off a bunch of powerful deities was not how I wanted to start my new life.

We made our way into the church and found all of our immediate family seated and waiting. There was a priest in white and gold robes standing at the alter and smaller statues of the Gods lining the stairs behind him.

"Ah! Blessed be the day of acceptance! Abyss Marhxist, please approach the alter." The priest exclaimed.

We walked down the center isle and my family stopped at the row in the front. My father gave me a light nudge forward, before he and the rest of my family took their seats.

I nervously made my way to the priest, unsure of how things would turn out. I had a bad feeling about all of this. I had never been a very religious person in my past life, I just assumed there was a higher power and tried to live an honest life.

But in this world, the Gods were very real, and used in everyday life. It was kind of hard not to be religious.

"Now, come this way my child and kneel at the feet of the Gods. Pray that they bless you with their protection and guidance." The priest said, guiding me to a spot in the middle of the imposing statues.

I knelt down and clasped my hands like my mother had taught me, and chanted the relevant prayer.

"Oh Gods from on high, I beseech you. Grant me thigh holy protection and give me the strength and guidance to see your will through to the end of my days."

As I finished my prayer, I suddenly heard a chorus of gasps, and felt weightless. I opened my eyes, and realized I was surrounded by a multicolored light.

'I never wanted to become the enemy of the Gods... but life rarely ever goes as planned...'
