Chapter 3 - Banquet preparations

Khalshara's point of view

As soon as I finished my chores, I went to look for my two stepsisters so we could begin their mother's banquet preparations. I saw the two in the living room, fawning over some handsome guy's picture on Linda's cellphone. I stared at my stepsisters phones with jealousy. Unlike my stepsisters, who are always given the best, I was always given whatever they had used or rejected. That also includes using their old and damaged cellphones.

How I wish I could get a cellphone that was half as good as theirs. But my father wouldn't. Whenever he wanted to change their phones, he preferred to sell the old ones if they weren't so damaged. And give me a button phone rather than letting me have it.

Been treated badly has always been annoying and at the same time painful. But I know its my fate, and there was no other way to change it.

I snapped out of my jealous mode and quickly turned on my working mode; otherwise, I'd be deprived of the only food I'd have today.

I walked towards the two and cleared my throat. "Matilda, Linda, I am done with my chores now. Let's begin the banquet preparations."

Matilda turned towards me with so much hate in her eyes, "Khalshara, do you know you're so rude?" I shook my head in response, and a sneer formed on her face.

"I wasn't asking you to respond. I was only letting you know you're rude!" She clentched her teeth while irritation formed on her face.

Matilda and Linda always wasted no time in bullying me, and there was nothing I could do about it. They could decide to beat me to pulp, and my father wouldn't even bat an eye. All he would say is, "They are your elder sisters and are only trying to teach you some manners. Rather than complaining, I'd advise you to learn from them and accept whatever they do to you!"

Damn it!

The twin sisters are only a year older than me! So, why should I let them bully me without standing up for myself?

Since I couldn't do anything about their bullying, I decided to join them by giving them back the same energy they gave me. So, I sharpened my tongue because it's the only way I can defend myself and beat them verbally, even though they beat me physically.

Linda threw me a fiery gaze while rubbing her sister's back. "Mark my words, Khalshara; I would cut that sharp tongue of yours soon!" She threatened irritatingly, and I rolled my eyes.

With concern etched on my face, I asked, "Can we just begin the preparation already? It's almost noon, and we have not done anything. How would we explain to Luna when she finds out we haven't begun our own part of the preparation?"

But they only laughed at me.

"You should only worry about yourself, b*tch! You don't expect our mother to punish us just because you neglected your duties." Matilda retorted.

Now, I was getting mad!

"Neglected my duties? Weren't you there this morning when she asked us to make the preparations together? Besides, you don't expect me to do it all. Do you?"

"We do!" The both answered almost at the same time.

"What?!"

I know I'm not supposed to be surprised at their response because I already anticipated it. But I still couldn't believe these two will leave their mother's birthday preparations to me without lending me a helping hand. Not when the Lycan King and all other pack tribes will be present. The attendance of the Lycan King alone means the birthday ceremony wasn't just a small deal. But a huge one.

Luna Grace had always planned her birthday herself for as long as I can remember. All I did during her birthday was clean the dishes and assist by cleaning the venue after the party. But this time, the Alpha King had decided to share the duties due to her recent illness. He claimed the pack duties had been too much for her to handle. So, he wanted us to share her burden by assisting her with the banquet preparations.

"This is so unfair!" I spat angrily at the two sisters. "How do you expect me to do it all by myself? Where do you want me to start from?!"

"Wolfless human, what is unfair is the fact that you and your dead mother are nothing but homewreckers! And homewreckers like you deserve no sympathy at all!" Matilda lashed back at me.

I clenched my fists angrily. It's always the same with this homewreckers story when my mother was also kept in the dark! If anyone is the villain here, it is my father. Not my mother!

But saying that now will only make matters worse. Besides, I still need all the help that I can get. So, I decided to calm down and try to reason with them by apologising first.

"I'm sorry, Matilda. I didn't mean to get you upset. I just want Luna Grace's banquet to be perfect."

Linda smiled. "Well, it makes sense since you put it that way."

A sigh of relief was about to escape my lips when she added, "Still, we won't be able to help because we also have to plan our outfits for the day."

"Yes Khalshara. Unlike you, we would be attending the banquet. So, we have to be elegantly dressed that day. And the only way to do that is by preparing now," Matilda added.

I frowned at their nonsensical attitude.

"But you both took your outfits to the seamstress store some weeks back. And it was personally delivered to you three days ago. In fact, I was the one who collected it from the delivery man and took it to your rooms."

Matilda rolled her eyes. "Khalshara, if we say we won't help, then there's nothing you or anyone can do about it. By the way, don't forget your role as the omega of this pack. We are superior to you. So, you must do as we say!"

I was about to speak when Linda retorted, "Are you deaf? We said we won't help!"

The rage within me boiled at her response. I wanted to lash at her when a familiar voice spoke, "Don't worry. I will help you out."
