In the year 3070, a failed military experiment plunged the world into chaos, leaving humanity on the brink of extinction. As the remnants of civilization fight to stay alive, a controversial dating app offers a lifeline to the survivors. This app, however, takes a deadly turn when the once mindless zombies start to evolve—with sharpened instincts and an eerie intelligence. These reanimated predators now form organized attacks, targeting humanity’s last hope through the very system that was meant to connect them. In this high-stakes, post-apocalyptic world, trust is a luxury, betrayal is inevitable, and romance is as deadly as the zombies themselves. Chapter 1 - Anti Rabies

A flickering street lamp buzzed overhead, casting uneven shadows across the broken asphalt. Smoke rose from burned trees, cars, and damaged buildings, depicting relics of a world that had once been thriving but had crumbled in the blink of an eye. The air carried the stench of decay, growing stronger with each passing second.

In the eerie silence, a low guttural moan echoed, breaking the quiet stillness of the empty street. It sounded distant, but it only took a few seconds when a mangled figure appeared outside an abandoned, barely recognizable convenience store. The tattered clothes hanging on its frail frame were the only evidence left of its humanity. Its pallid skin stretched thin over the bone, barely covering its rotten flesh. With foggy eyes that could hardly see, it sniffed the air, searching.

Slowly moving, stumbling through the broken glass, it stepped inside the building, seemingly following a certain scent. A shadow moved at the corner, causing the monster's head to twitch, focusing on its prey. With a terrifying snarl, the creature opened its mouth, showing its decomposing teeth as it lunged forward.

The moment it reached the counter, the abomination locked its gaze on a target. "Run!" A voice screamed, followed by two silhouettes jumping out. One of them managed to throw a kick, knocking the undead along with a metal shelf that crashed on the floor, holding it in place. This bought them some time to get away from its grasp, but now they had to act fast.

"Run, Gabby!" the boy urged his companion as they heard a loud screech from the distance, its hollow voice splitting the air like a siren.

Zigzagging between overturned cars and piles of debris, the two survivors ran for their lives. Up ahead, they spotted an alleyway between two crumbling buildings. Without thinking twice, they slid into the narrow path, listening to the furious shrieks behind them. Their lungs burned, but they kept running, desperate to find an escape.

Trash bins and an assortment of broken bricks, wood, and glass cluttered the narrow path. Just a hundred feet away, a dead end loomed, the back of the alley lined with barbed wire and a rusted fence. They were trapped.

Halting their plight, the boy caught his breath. He looked at his friend, his brows furrowed and his jaw tight.

"No," she uttered, shaking her head vehemently as she read the message in his expression loud and clear. "Bryn, no, you can't do this."

"Remember what I always tell you, Gabriella?"

Gabriella started crying. "Please," she begged. But Bryn only pulled her into a hug.

"I'm sorry," he whispered. "But if anyone gets to live after this mess, it's you."

24 hours before the world fell…

"What got you this time, Gab?" Doctor Sanchez, the local doctor in charge of the anti-rabies shot, clicked his tongue as Gabriella sat on the cold metal chair in his clinic.

She rolled her eyes, a lazy smile tugging at her lips. "Cat's neighbor scratched me accidentally. Mrs. Meyers advised me to get the shot. Siegel never stays home. So, to be safe…" She gave a nonchalant shrug, her jacket slipping off one shoulder.

Doctor Sanchez sighed, shaking his head as he swabbed her skin. "You need to start being more mindful of animals, Gabriella," he muttered, his tone scolding yet resigned. "I know you think they're cute, but taking extra precautions won't hurt."

The needle pricked her skin; a familiar itch immediately prickled around the injected part. She bit her lip, clenching her hands into fists to stop her fingers from scratching the irritated mark.

"You are good to go," Doctor Sanchez gave her shoulder a light pat. "But I mean it this time, Gabriella—take care of yourself!"

Gabriella hopped off the chair, her faded denim jacket slung back over her shoulders. A warm smile softened her features as she looked at him. "You'll probably see me again next month, Doc. Don't miss me too much."

The doctor grimaced, clicking his tongue. "I'm serious, Thorne!"

"I am too!" She called over her shoulder with a playful laugh, waving as she exited the clinic.

The bright afternoon sunlight outside was a sharp contrast to the dim lighting of the clinic. Gabriella had to squint, her gaze immediately catching the sleek black Jeep parked just by the curb. Leaning casually against the hood, Bryn Meyers greeted her with a cocky smirk. He tossed a bottle of water her way without warning, and she snatched it mid-flight with practiced ease.

"Hey, Meyers." She grinned, watching him run a hand through his blonde hair. It glinted against the afternoon sun, smoothly falling back after his fingers passed through them.

"My mother wanted to be sure you actually had the shot." Bryn Meyers' voice cut through her reverie, bringing her back to the present.

She blinked and nodded. "I had to. Other than annoying Doctor Sanchez, I pretty much don't have a death wish."

Bryn chuckled, shaking his head before gesturing for Gabriella toward the car. "Hop in. Let's get you home."

He watched her climb into the passenger seat, a small smile playing on his lips. When she got inside, she raised a brow, fumbling with the wheel before hitting the car horn.

He rolled his eyes in response. "You're crazy," he mouthed before joining her.

As Bryn started the car, Gabriella nudged him with her elbow, "So," she chided, grinning from ear to ear. "You and Alysa, huh?"

Bryn scoffed, his hands tightening slightly on the wheel. "Word travels fast, doesn't it?" He whistled under his breath before adding, "Not that it matters—she hasn't said yes."

"What?" Gabriella gasped, feigning outrage. "Why not?"

He shrugged, clearly uninterested in continuing the conversation, but before Gabriella could press him further, her phone buzzed in her pocket. Pulling it out, she immediately picked it up.

"Mom!"

Her mother's voice crackled on the other end, frantic. "Listen, Gabby, I don't—time. But please stay put."

Confused at the broken message, Gabriella's brows furrowed, forgetting about her surroundings. "Mom, you are cutting off. Can you repeat that?"

"Skip school—lock the—don't come out. Wait for me—"

The line immediately went dead, leaving Gabriella to stare at her phone. A nagging feeling settled in her chest, making it difficult for her to breathe.

"Hey," Bryn's voice snapped her out of her trance. "What's wrong?"

Before she could answer, a ping on her phone interrupted them. Her screen displayed an unusual notification: Downloading Z.A.D.

"What the hell is Z.A.D.?" Gabriella muttered, clicking on the notification. The app's sleek, ominous interface loaded quickly. It displayed an unsettling message: Welcome to Zombie Apocalypse Dating!

"Gabby?" Bryn pressed, concern evident in his voice. However, a loud crash forced him to hit the brakes, leaving no room for them to talk.

Suddenly, chaos erupted in the streets. People started running as some figures staggered out of alleys and from behind cars, their movements jerky and unnatural. One of them turned toward the Jeep, its face twisted in a grotesque snarl, showing its yellowish, uneven teeth.

Bryn slammed the car into reverse, his jaw clenched. "What the hell is going on?!"

Gabriella shook her head, her mind replaying her mother's cryptic message. "I think," she murmured. "We're doomed."
