The bell rang, signaling the end of second period, and Robbie instantly shot up from his seat, grabbing his violin case. He was by the door before anyone could even blink. Teddy, on the other hand, just leaned back in his chair, arms crossed, and let out a dramatic sigh.
"You're not seriously going to play that thing again, are you?" Teddy asked, eyes rolling.
Robbie shot him a smirk as he adjusted his messy black hair. "Of course, bro. You're just jealous that I can make it look cool." He flicked his wrist and grinned. "You wouldn't get it, you're just a basketball guy."
Teddy raised an eyebrow, still crossing his arms. "Bro, you play the violin like you're auditioning for a medieval times show. Relax."
"Ha! Whatever. I'll show you cool when I serenade Becca later." Robbie winked, tapping his fingers along the violin's edge. He was such a flirt, it was kind of ridiculous.
Becca, sitting nearby, immediately turned red and shot them both a nervous look. "Wait, Robbie, you're not gonna to actually do that right? in front of the whole class.. RIGHT?" Her afro bounced slightly as she turned to face him, and she placed her hands in her lap like she was bracing herself for disaster.
Robbie didn't even hesitate. "You bet I am."
"Oh my gosh, you're not.." Becca groaned, pulling her hoodie up over her head like a shield. "This is so embarrassing, I can't even!"
"It'll be adorable." Robbie assured her, an evil grin went on his face. "Trust me."
Teddy couldn't help but snicker. "You're literally about to embarrass yourself, dude. You can't play for anything."
Becca leaned over to Tabitha, who had been silently watching this exchange with a raised eyebrow, her black hoops gleaming under the fluorescent lights. "Can you, like, um.. help me out? Like, can you stop him from doing this?" she whispered.
Tabitha, in typical Tabitha fashion, shrugged, pushing a strand of her dark hair out of her face. "Let him. It's not my problem if he makes a fool of himself."
"Thanks for the support." Becca said sarcastically, but she couldn't hide her smile. She had to admit, even though Robbie was about to do something SUPER awkward, it was still low-key kind of funny.
Robbie marched up to the front of the class, violin ready, not even flinching at the nervous giggles coming from their classmates. He adjusted his posture and started playing the opening notes of a random, overly dramatic song.
It was honestly… terrible.
Becca buried her face in her hands, but it didn't stop her from giggling. "Oh my freaking gosh, nooo…" She could hear the classmates giggling, oblivious because of how off-key it was.
The classmates were whispering and side eyeing.. it was so awkward.
Teddy leaned on his hand and chuckled. "This is gold. Robbie just admit it, you're not a musical prodigy, man."
Robbie finally finished the "song" with a flourish, bowing like he'd just performed at Carnegie Hall. The classroom erupted in laughter, and Robbie's face flushed bright red.
"Okay, okay." he muttered, slinking back to his seat. "I admit it. I'm better with video games than with this."
Becca couldn't stop laughing, holding her stomach. "That was too much Robbie."
But Robbie wasn't phased. "You're welcome." he said, plopping down next to her. "At least I know how to make an entrance."
Tabitha snorted. "Yeah, sure, 'the greatest violinist of our generation.'" she mocked, making air quotes.
Becca raised her hand dramatically, trying to stifle another laugh. "Thank you, Robbie for making school a thousand times more awkward."
"You're welcome." He said while starcing his head. "Just wait until I serenade you in the lunchroom."
"Please don't!" Becca begged, covering her face again.
