Chapter 1 - The Witch

The kingdom of Ezra under the rule of King Valendy.

Two years ago.

"To unearth the cure to this malady that has gone unbridled among the half-breed wolves, there's only one solution," the high sage declared with a voice filled with authority despite being in the presence of the king.

"No matter the cost, we are more than ready to pay" The king paused and then continued.

"Losing my strongest men to this dreadful disease has been causing an uproar in the kingdom and many have lost belief in me as the king which has resulted in them trying to go up against me" The king replied with urgency.

The sage looked at the king with soulful eyes like she could see something no other person could.

"You need not worry about the cost your highness, but worry about finding the carrier of the cure," she said with a calm voice.

The king is getting impatient by the old woman's elocution so are the two princes standing by the throne beside him. The only person who appears not to care in the room is Prince Zuriel, and he is the one who speaks up this time.

"Wise sage, we beseech you, to please let us know what to do and how to do it to end this dreadful havoc," he said in a very serene voice.

The sage looked at Prince Zuriel for what seemed like an hour but just a few minutes then looked back up at the King who sat unrelaxed.

"You will send the three princes to the human realm, One with a scroll, another with a sword, and the other with a cloak, by their own wit, they will find Olywn, the daughter of Fairey Sefari, and they will each be tasked with winning her heart and convincing her to help the kingdom, the one who accomplish this will take your place on the throne" With that said, the sage excused herself, moving out of the throne room without uttering any other words.

New York City

May 2024.

A lady sat behind a work desk in a florist shop, her vivid blue eyes were focused on the sales ledger in front of her, her pure silver hair rolled into a bun atop her head, her face is free of any sort of make up, yet her skin holds a glassy quality that could only have been acquired through natural means or the most expensive of skin care.

Her redhead best friend stood at the other side of the table, pacing back and forth, while her mouth blab away, with a frustrated look on her small face.

"Dahlia, you have got to be kidding me, you fucking did what?" The best friend asked the lady writing.

Dahlia, the lady in question raised her head from her ledger and rolled her eyes at her friend theatrics "I broke up with him Julia, how many time do I have to explain this?" she replied her friend with a resigned sigh.

"As long as it'd take me to understand the why of the situation, because the guy is fucking perfect,"

"Due to your inability to comprehend even the simplest of conversation, that'd take a long while,"

Dahlia had hardly finished the sentence when she was smacked over the head with a book "Ouch...what did you do that for?" She asked.

"That's what you get for disrespecting your elderly ones, now tell me why you dumped that perfect male specimen,"

Dahlia rubbed her eyes in wariness, as she turned her shocking blue gaze on her friend "What type of man insists on having sex after just a month of dating?"

"And what is wrong with that, I had sex with Chris two weeks after I met him," Julia replied in an exasperated voice.

"And you found out this same Chris swings "both ways" as you described it,"

"Ouch, that hurts," Julia said in mock hurt, holding her chest in pretense.

"Knock it off, you were not in love with him anyways,"

"Okay, maybe I wasn't, but that's beside the point, you are gonna have to give me a more plausible reason beside that, Dahlia you are getting older by the day, you can't keep running from commitment, do you want to die single?" Julia looked so serious that one would think she was pleading for her life before the supreme court.

This made Dahlia rolled her eyes as she looked at her before letting out another sigh, "Okay, there's something else." Dahlia finally admitted and Julia ears perked up eagerly.

"So, after I decided to stop thinking far and share my first time with this bastard because well...I like him enough, do you know what he did?"

"If I know, I wouldn't be asking, now tell me what he did," Julia was already getting frustrated by the suspense.

"He said he believes I am a witch and before you tell me that isn't new because of my looks, I'll tell you what is new, this bastard practically lighted candle around his shrine room, and that is definitely a shrine and wanted to make love with me in the middle of that lighted candles," Dahlia recounted the incident like she still couldn't believe it.

Julia was quiet for a while after Dahlia explained everything, then she burst into a deep laughter full of mirth "So, your boyfriend has a fetish for the supernatural, but now that you mention it, you could be a witch truly,"

"Okay, let me show you the attributes of that witch, you traitor!" Dahlia said as she came around the table and pulled her friend's ears.

"Haaa...haa I don't mean it, my ears are burning, I was just kid..." Julia was begging when Dahlia suddenly let her go.

"Well, he wasn't really mistaken..." Julia continued teasing after Dahlia had released her ears but stopped short when she noticed her friend's stance.

Dahlia was standing very still and her shocking blue eyes had completely changed to the color of burning flame, and by some logic that Julia couldn't explain, Dahlia's silver hair had escaped it's bun and was flying around her face, and she was looking forward like she was seeing something others couldn't

The air around her seems to be thrumming with magic and her face held a sheen of glowing quality, as if her face is lighted up on a different level, Julia thought she looked...magical.

"Dah... Dahlia, Are you okay? What's going on?" Julia asked with a shaky voice as she doesn't understand what was going on, neither has she seen her friend of nine years like this.

Julia moved closer to her, but before she could even think of touching her, she was thrown far back against the wall.

"Fuck...Just fuck... I don't know what is going on, or what is happening with you, just snap the fuck out of it, snap the fuck out if it before someone sees this!!!" Julia yelled at the top of her lungs, moving closer to her friend.

It seems Julia's voice carried through this time because Dahlia turned to look at her best friend, then she collapsed onto the floor and lost consciousness, just before someone came barge into the office.

"Is everything alright, Jules, I heard your voice," Fred, the teenage boy that worked part-time for Dahlia asked before he noticed that his boss was on the floor.

"Fuck, let's just get her to a hospital...." Julia said worriedly, the image of how Dahlia had looked a few minutes ago still very much vivid in her head.

"We have been in the human world for two years now, are we even sure the high sage knows what she was saying?" Tristan complained.

Tristan was the last of the Princes of Ezra who had been sent to the human world to find the lost witch, him along with his two elder siblings had just moved from Seattle to New York City and they have started to set up home.

"You are in no place to complain, you just listen and follow orders," Damien said without warmth, glaring at his youngest brother in warning.

Damien was the first of the prince and was supposed to be the next king of Ezra before the unprecedented incident that had given each of them a chance to the throne had happened.

While they were saying all this, the second prince remained quiet, Prince Zuriel is the oddity among the trio, where the first prince is ruthless and the last prince is jovial, Zuriel is completely neutral.

He hardly ever utters any word except if a question is directed at him, and where his siblings has striking resemblance with good looks and black hair, Zuriel look is almost otherworldly and he has silver hair instead.

"You are not going to say anything, Zuriel?" Tristan said, looking for support, but Zuriel only closed his eyes and relaxed into the arm chair he was sitting on.

Damien passed Tristan a warning look and Tristan knew if he push it one more time, he might end up with a bloody nose or worse.

So he grumpily went to sit in another chair as Damien paced the living room, thinking of their next move.

Just then, the strangest thing happened, Zuriel disappeared from the seat he was sitting on, but Damien did not notice as he was busy pacing.

"Damien...I...I think we might have found her.." Tristan said, staring at the place where Damien was sitting a few minutes ago.

But he had hardly finished the sentence before his brother had him by the throat with his back against the wall "I told you to shut the fuck up and let me think, by Odin's horse if you try me one more time, I'll cut your hair off," Damien threatened, his red eyes boring into his brother's blue one.

"B...But Zu..riel..." Tristan stammered through his painfully squeezed throat, while pointing at the place occupied by his brother few minutes ago.

Damien turned to check on his younger brother and when he saw what had happened, he immediately dropped Tristan, he couldn't understand how that happened.

Just as they are about to start arguing, Zuriel showed up again, this time, the black cloak he was wearing earlier was in his hands.

And at once, Tristan brought out the plain scroll the sage had given him, and by some power they couldn't understand, characters had appeared on it, even though they couldn't understand it.

And when Zuriel brought out the sword he was given, the sword that was ordinary when they gave him is now thrumming with blue magic.

"I believed we have found her," Tristan whispered and they all nodded.
