Chapter 1 - Watcher in the Garden

Chapter 1. I HATE HUMANS

*Washington, DC/ American Empire*

Date: 7/21/3083AD*

As I drive through this polluted cesspool of a city, I can't help but think...

I...

HATE...

HUMANS...

They make me sick. They are vile, dirty, unredeemable pieces of thrash.

EVERY...

LAST...

ONE...

From the cruel sniveling snot nosed brats all the way up to the greedy pretentious and perverted elderly they are all rotten to the core.

I stop my truck at the checkpoint and flash my security badge to the overly enthusiastic guard.

"Good morning, General."

He wears a big cheery smile today. He must've had fun assaulting his stepdaughter again last night.

His wife started sleeping with his brother, so she is either oblivious to the abuse or doesn't care.

I don't bother with much more than a slight nod in his direction as I pull through the gate and park my truck.

The White House of the American Empire. A building that once stood as a symbol of freedom and equality. Now it is basically a club house for the most corrupt and vile of the Empire. I get out of my truck and start walking toward the door.

"Good morning, General."

The President's personal aide greets me at the door to inform me to report to the President. This aide is another piece of work. He spends his days being verbally assaulted, abused and who knows what else by Niben just to turn around and brutally beat his wife and kids when he goes home. I simply walk past the aide and walk towards the oval office.

How do I know all these dark dirty secrets? Well, that's because digging up dirt on potential enemies in American Imperial Politics is just the name of the game. What I've learn in my years as a human is that so few humans are good that it doesn't make sense to save them.

In the military I started building my little Black Book, a digital record of every secret I uncovered about commanding officers that pissed me off. One thing led to another, and I had dirt on everyone.

I'd reach a new echelon of power circles and just start over again. Get something on this person use it to get something on the next. Pick those in powerful position I wanted then find a way to take it from them.

Every human has skeletons in their closet, you just have to look hard enough to find them.

Before I even make it to my destination, I hear crying coming from an office. I peak inside to see Niben's daughter molesting and ridiculing a boy about his penis size. I don't recognize the boy, but he knows it's better to just put up with whatever it is she wants. What a perfect example of how rotten human children are to their cores.

No one will stop her not even the boy's parents whomever they may be. Hell, Niben does worse than this to her most nights. This is the never-ending cycle. Parents abuse and molest the kids, then the kids grow up just to abuse and molest others.

It isn't my concern, so I just continue on my way. I'm just biding my time. I'll save the universe soon enough.

"Ah General Draken welcome, welcome. Please come in and have a seat."

Niben points to a chair next to a foreign ambassador I don't recognize. That's probably his kid Niben's little demon was tormenting. The President begins his discussion however I quickly lose interest in what he has to say.

Niben is probably the vilest human here today. All his words are worthless to me. He recently was caught up in a child sex scandal with a banker, Edsteinn. However, he dodged a bullet with the overly obvious suicide cover job and swept it under the rug. A signature move of the depraved elite. Thousands of children raped and sold into slavery all over the world just for their amusement. It's no wonder humans are so fucked up.

As a child I enjoyed stories of good versus evil and in those stories good was always triumphant over evil. It was my escape from my personal hell of daily beatings and It's probably why I joined the military.

I escaped my abusive father in an attempt to make a difference in the world at eighteen. I dreamed of being like the noble and chivalrous knights of my stories. I figured if I was going to get the shit kicked out of me every day, I should at least get paid for it and try to save some people. In my dreams I would fight against all those terrible things, but I learned that it was nothing but a delusion.

I quickly found out the hard way why all the stories I loved were considered fiction. There are no Heroes in this world.

Just murderous... rapist... warmongering humans...

There is no Honor in humans who strap bombs to children or use women as meat shields. No there is only ignorant blind zealots. So convinced their holy wars are righteous. This god is all powerful, no my god is the true god. In my thirty-five-year career I've seen the worst of humanity. War brings out the worst in us all and it always boils down to three things: Greed, Lust, or God.

I'm completely convinced there is no God. I've watched as legions of soldiers were killed due to incompetent leaders trying to take out rivals, settle personal disputes, steal land or resources. This world shows no favor to good and capable men. They all ended up in an early grave while the wars and fighting never end.

"General!"

I snap back from my thoughts to see them both staring at me.

"What is it?"

I snap back at Niben who can't really oppose me due to my Black Book and what I hold over him. Still Niben seems agitated with my disrespect, but I honestly don't care. I could have taken his job if I wanted but... I just decided humans were not worth saving.

"Honestly General Draken, I thought you would be more excited about the completed Ragnarök Project."

Ding ding ding! He said the magic words. I wasn't paying attention, so I missed this. I'm so excited there is no hiding the wicked smile spreading across my face.

"Checkmate!"

They seem confused as I jump to my feet

"Shall we inspect it then?"

I lead the way with them both in tow. The culmination of my hard work has finally paid off. During my tenure as the General in charge of the Department of Defense the Ragnarök Defense Project has been my entire focus.

The end all be all of nuclear defensive technology. A system set up to target the Earth at its weakest points and set off an unstoppable chain reaction to destroy the Earth. A new planet that could sustain life had been found recently. It was an abundant rich and vast paradise.

The rich and powerful elite planned and schemed to run off to found New America. They've been loading a colony ship with the entire Empires wealth and resources.

I sold this project as a war deterrent in the event that Earth ever attempted to retaliate. However, no one will ever get the chance.

I approach the console

"Did you have the dead man switch put in yet?"

I look at Niben as I run a quick diagnosis for show.

"Yes, General and I must say you've really out done yourself this time!"

He looks smug. I bet he's so proud of himself. He thinks he is invincible and untouchable.

I draw my service pistol and fire a round off into his head before he can muster up another sound.

"Yes, President Niben, I do believe I have."

I'm laughing and talking to his corpse now... maybe I am just crazy but so what if I am? Might makes right in this world and right now I am the mightiest.

The door slams shut, and a siren begins blaring. I turn and look out the reinforced window as everyone runs and scrambles. A few are screaming and banging on the glass, but they'll never break it.

I probably look like the epitome of evil right now to all these people, but I like so many misguided and self-serving humans before me, believe I am doing one small evil for the greater good.

I don't believe in a god or an afterlife but at this moment I honestly hope judgement awaits these fools. There isn't one I see, down on their knee begging for some God to save them, that's name isn't in my little Black Book. If there is some grand design to this world I have deviated from it.

Could I possibly be acting unknowingly as some God's smiting hand? Sure, it's possible I guess and here at the end it's an amusing thought I had never even considered. I don't care nor claim to be either way.

What I do know without a doubt is my name is General Julius Draken, the world calls me the Mad Dog. I am currently the highest-ranking member of the American Imperial Army and today with my own free will, I choose to end this cruel fucked up world with my own smiting hand of justice.

After a worldwide chain of explosions everything just goes dark and silent. I'll rest in peace knowing the earth is reduced to dust and ash. Along with the humans I hate. Leaving one less evil in the universe.

However, I strangely remain conscious and even aware I died. I felt that last moment of pain as I was vaporized yet I remain engulfed in an infinite darkness. I am conscious but I don't understand what's going on.

Suddenly a screen appears.

[YOU HAVE ASCENSED TO WATCHER: MAD DOG]

Then another.

[AUTHORITY LEVEL THREE]

[CREATE NEW PLANET? Y/N]

Create Planet?

[CREATING NEW PLANET PLEASE WAIT...]

A flood of screens and information begins to overwhelm me. It's so much information it actually hurts worse than being vaporized. All I can think is that I want it to stop, and I need to clear the screens.

The screens all clear away.

[NEW WORLD CREATED]

A new world?

It's just a ball of water.

I reach out to touch it and land raises where I point my finger. It's like a mini world. I spend some time playing around with it, but I've never been good with things like this.

[CLEAR? Y/N]

I wish there were templates I could use.

[USE GARDEN OF EDEN SUPER CONTINENT TEMPLATE? Y/N]

Hmm... I can reuse the original template.

Let's go with that, I guess.

So, Earth was originally one massive continent...

In the north it was filled with great mountains and lush green fertile hills. The kind of place Dwarves would love to live and mine. I have to name it let's go with El Dorado.

Below the mountains a lush and beautiful forest filled with rivers, lakes, and streams. It makes me think of the land of fairies, so I'll name it Avalon.

The forest ends at a massive river that winds through the entire continent it has many smaller forks that branch off like a million more tiny serpents. People once depicted dragons as serpent like let's go with The Dragonspine River. I see every waterway on the continent originates from this river.

On the other side of the river is a tropical rainforest paradise. Lush jungles there are even small islands with beautiful beaches in some of the larger parts of the river where it turns into small seas. I'll name it Shangri-la.

At the bottom of the world there is a vast savanna littered with many vibrant oases throughout. I'll call it Erebus since it's at the end of the world. I really do hate humans. They had all this and just wasted it. Alright I'm happy with the set up. I want to see what life was like in the Garden of Eden. Finally i have to name the continent. I'm going to change the name to Eldaria.

[CREATE AVATAR? Y/N]

By now I've realized these screens react to my thoughts. If I'm curious about something a screen usually appears with an answer.

The default avatar looks like me in my early twenties. I can customize it, but I want to remain myself for now. I've never been good with designing things anyways.

As soon as I accept the Avatar I appear in the middle of a vast forest. I decide to just take a stroll through this beautiful forest. I enjoy it greatly it's so nice and peaceful here. As I explore, I can't help but be amazed at how much humans ruin everything. This paradise is living proof!

This place has everything you need to survive. Even though I don't actually need to eat or drink anything I've been sampling and tasting. I drink from the rivers and eat fruits from the trees as I wander. The water is cool and refreshing. The fruit of the land is sweet and juicy.

Although I don't actually recognize most of it. These fruits no longer existed in the Earth I came from.

I can see all information about them if I desire to while looking at specific things. I decide I want to head to the highest mountain. While thinking about how I unexpectedly teleport and I'm there. Screen can I see a list of my abilities? One appears.

So, I assume the screens are this power called omniscience.

There are 13 months which cycle with the phases of the moon every 28 days. I decide the first thing to do would be to figure out what a small cost would be. I should find a creature and name it. I teleport around for a while until I find a Direwolf puppy in Avalon.

"Aww... it's so cute for a wolf."

I lean down and call for it so it runs up to me barking.

"Hmm... I'll name you Fenrir."

My eyes feel heavy all of a sudden.

Is this the cost?

What's happening to me?

I collapse next to the puppy, and it feels but for just a moment however things have changed. When I pick myself up off the ground. The puppy is now a massive wolf the size of a horse, so I scan him with omniscience.

Name: Fenrir

Sex: M

Race: Mythical Direwolf [Mount]

Age: 1/∞

Strength: B

Agility: A

Endurance: B

What was that?

A time skip?

So, a year is a small cost?

Fenrir is now listed under my Military as a Mythical Beast Mount, and I think he's immortal unless killed. I should make some more. I start teleporting around looking for another Direwolf. I eventually find a female with a beautiful snow-white fur coat. This time I lay against a tree before naming her Lupa. Just like before I blink and I'm suddenly staring at Fenrir and Lupa a year later.

All Lupa's information is the same as Fenrir's except her Title, chosen mate of Fenrir. I decide I need to experiment some more, so I start searching around for good test subjects. I find a magnificent pride of golden lions in the southern Erebus savanna. A male and two females. I approach them as they laze about in the shade. I want to see if I can name multiple creatures at once.

I'm successful in naming the male Nemean and one of the females as Nysia. I can't get out the third before two years have passed in the blink of an eye. The unnamed female lioness has disappeared but when I check omniscience, I've gained six Direwolves and six Golden Lions per year added to my army. The offspring are only Legendary, but the only difference is they have a max lifespan of 150 years.

Name: Nemean & Nysia

Sex: M

Race: Mythical Golden Lion [Mount]

Age: 4/∞

Strength: A

Agility: B

Endurance: S

Next, I find two bears in North Avalon. This time I intend to give them the same name as a lineage name. I name them Artaois

Name: Artaois

Sex: M/F

Race: Mythical Wise Bears [Mount]

Age: 5/∞

Strength: S

Agility: B

Endurance: A

It worked out well, so I decide to use this method moving forward. In the far north in the harsh cold, I found a pair of ferocious white sabretooth tigers and I named them Byakko.

Name: Byakko

Sex: M/F

Race: Mythical White Tigers [Mount]

Age: 6/∞

Strength: A

Agility: S

Endurance: B

In the deepest southern deserts, I decide on a pregnant scorpion queen, Queen Scorpius.

Name: Queen Scorpius

Sex: F

Race: Mythical Giant Scorpion Queen [Hive Weapon]

Age: 7/∞

Strength: A

Agility: S

Endurance: B

Perched atop a mountain in the east I found a pair of eagles and their names will be Remnis.

Name: Remnis

Sex: M/F

Race: Mythical Silver Eagles [Aerial Mount]

Age: 8/∞

Strength: B

Agility: S

Endurance: A

I walk across the ocean until I find an octopus. I decide to try adding a title during naming to see what happens. I name her Queen Calypso the Kraken, but l forgot I was standing on the ocean. I blink and I'm suddenly at the bottom of the ocean. Calypso seems to think she's been protecting me this whole time.

Name: Queen Calypso

Sex: F

Race: Mythical Kraken [Nautical Mount]

Age: 15/∞

Strength: S

Agility: S

Endurance: S

It cost me seven years to change her species that way. Her stats are off the charts as well. I decide to explore the oceans for a while with her. During our travels I find some gold and crudely form it into the shape of a staff. I adorned the top with a magnificent pearl.

"This is a gift for you so make sure you protect us while I sleep."

I bestow power into the staff to create an Artifact.

"Calypso's Treasure!"

I blink and the staff has transformed from the crude one I made into a magnificent S Rank Artifact.

Queen Calypso's Treasure

S Rank Staff

Staff of Storms given to Calypso Queen of the Oceans by the Mad Dog. It has the power to call forth great storms.

That cost me five years but it's kind of cool.

I head to the surface to test it. I swing it around and whirlpool appears in the ocean. Lightning and thunder fill the skies and storms form all around me. I keep waving it trying to get them to stop but it only makes it worse. I decide the treasure is probably best left at the bottom of the ocean with Calypso. She graciously takes it as I return back to land.

Mythical creatures are cool and all, but it's been twenty years since I destroyed Earth. I've gotten rather lonely.

[CREATE HUMAN TEMPLATE? Y/N]

No, I'd rather experience eternal solitude than bring humans back.

Why can't I have a peaceful race like Elves?

[NO ELVEN TEMPLATE AVAILABLE...]

[CONSTRUCTING TEMPLATE FROM MEMORY...]

[CREATE ELVEN SPECIES? Y/N]

Wait. Seriously I can make Elves.

I shouldn't rush this though I should look at the template.

The body is all good; tall, slender, pointy ears. How do I pick beyond physical appearance?

[YOUR MIND WILL GUIDE THE TEMPLATE]

So, I just need to picture in my head exactly what I want them to be like?

I imagine the Elves as wardens of the forest, peaceful, living harmoniously with nature, noble, beautiful, proud, innate magic talent, mana source from the Mana Tree. I don't think this world has a mana tree, but it should. I focus intently on my ideal Elves and then accept.Â
