Chapter 11 - Keep him busy, until the last point of health

Balor was pissed off as I had never seen anyone in a few months. He truly seemed to have a great issue with the way his career in his nation's military has been going.

"No Mercy!" he yelled once more as he launched his signature skill against me once more. I decided to do more than just dodge this time, I swung my short sword as I passed under his legs once more.

-80

That was a good amount, I thought.

"Nether bolt!" I heard Kali cast and the bolts of dark energy hit the captain while I stood back up and tried to gain distance.

-100

I saw that number 5 times when the 5 bolts got to him. I managed to see him getting pushed on the back by them as it raised a cloud of dust that covered him. I ran, trying to gain distance to stay safe.

"Don't you run away!" I heard him yell.

Something came out flying from the cloud of dust and I barely managed to dodge when it hit me on the back. I felt the jolt of pain when it hit.

I could barely register what happened until I stopped rolling on the floor against a wall, I found myself sitting on the floor, pain running through my body when I finally registered what just happened.

HP: 30/100

I was back at 30 HP exactly. Is like something kept drawing me towards a close death.

"How are you still alive?" asked Balor, appearing from the cloud of dust that was settling in. "And why I cannot cause more than 70 points of damage to you?"

"Well..." I slowly stood up. I had no idea why, it is true, 70 points of damage was too specific, and it happened twice in a row with him. I thought that the first time was because of the tie on the check, but now it happened again.

"Sucks to suck, looser" It was like when I was trash-talking in online games with friends. Even when losing, we loved making our adversaries get angry from our commentary.

"I will not tolerate a level 1 to disrespect me like this!" he yelled and raised his fist to try to punch me.

"No Mercy!" I heard that same skill, but this time, it was Kali's voice who used the moment that he was distracted to attack.

The attack hits Balor directly and sends him flying a few meters against a house. 500 points of damage! And somehow, I received no damage from the area of attack, even when I was close.

"Good job, bait," she said to me while looking in the direction Balor went flying.

Nayleth reached us and cast a healing spell on me. I nodded to him and said "Thanks" in appreciation. He only nodded back. Still, no words from him.

"Think that was enough?" I asked.

"You are helpless," Kali said, raising her weapon once more "We have no chance of beating him. We are only stalling for time"

"We've been hitting him constantly and he has been missing most of it," I asked, incredulous "How much HP can he have on level 15?"

"A good amount" I heard Balor's voice.

Once again he proved how fast he was, jumping a few meters from his position towards Kali.

She could not react in time, the captain punched her directly, hitting her on the face and launching her body a few meters against a wall, that she impacted against and caused it to crack.

The damage number said 1291 points of damage.

"Agh!" She grunted in pain as she fell to the ground. She was still conscious and alive, but clearly in pain. She was holding herself in her arms as she was barely managing to stand up again.

Just how much difference was between a level 10 and a 15? Heck, just how far away I was? I was being cocky by teasing him, but he is leagues beyond us.

He did not lose any time and sent another punch towards Nayleth. He cast a barrier in front of himself.

The punch went directly through the barrier and got Nayleth directly. 1067 points of damage. Same effect, he went flying and fell to the ground. He did not stand up like Kali.

"Nayleth! Curse you, self-righteous prick!" she yelled while she tried to stand up. Her body was failing her, and could not get up.

I was frozen. The feeling of being powerless returned after managing to obtain bravery out of nowhere. This sucked.

Balor looked at me and a creepy smirk appeared on his face. Then he walked towards Nayleth, slowly, knowing he was in full control.

"The vulpin is still alive, barely," he said while looking down at him. Then he raised his leg "Let me fix that"

My only instinct at that point was to look to stop him. If I didn't do anything, Nayleth would die.

I grabbed a stone from the ground and threw it at him. It hit him square right in the back.

-10 points of damage.

Balor stopped all his movements and slowly turned his head towards me. His sight got directly towards me and I felt the murderous intent on him. Then he turned around completely and started to walk towards me.

"Dara!" I thought, hoping she listened "We need to leave right now!"

"Just a bit longer!" I heard her voice speaking "We are almost done!"

"We don't have time! Nayleth is unconscious and Kali is barely capable of standing up!"

"I can still fight! Don't speak for me!" I heard her voice. So we were still connected.

"Curses! We need more time! The villagers are almost in a safe spot!" Dara continued. "Marcel, please, we need more time!"

They need him distracted because he is too powerful. If a trained soldier barely could take on the damage that Kali could do, the amount he is causing just with his hands is too much for them to survive. Just a bit longer. I need to keep him a bit longer.

Why did I even care? I was not part of this world, I was thrown at it with a broken system and all I got when it got repaired was a level one class that I have not had the time to read what it does. Heck, I even have underwear that is draining my stats! Yet, I felt that I had to, that I needed to put myself out there and make a difference.

"I bet I can kick your ass just being level 1!" I yelled. My voice was shaky, but that did not matter "You are so pathetic that you still haven't been able to kill none of us!"

He jumped towards me. "Please work," I said when I barely could see the fist and felt a surge of pain on my face. I flew a few meters and fell to the ground, rolled a couple of meters.

-70 points of damage.

Something was definitively keeping me alive from his damage. His fist was causing thousands of points of damage on itself without weapons. Yet I fell directly to 30 once again. I could not risk it now that I was low on HP.

I quickly made every effort possible to stand up while I fisted the ground for some dirt. He ran towards me and swung his arm to punch me once again.

I threw the dirt on his face and it felt on his eyes. Blind appeared over him and I heard him grunt. I ducked and the hit missed. I took the chance and made a cut with my short sword and then I tried to stab him.

65 and 78 points of damage respectively. I quickly jumped back and gained distance, while Balor started to swing his arms blindly, trying to hit me.

Short Sword +1 Level!

LV 1->2

STR 20->30

DEF 12->18

My sword just leveled up?! Heck, I wish I did but maybe that was something positive. I still have not checked how much stats before it. And why did it level up?! Use?!

Balor managed to remove the dirt from his eyes and looked at me with red eyes.

"What, going to cry about it?" I asked with a smug smile on my face. I knew I was pushing my luck but at this point I was all in.

"You insolent..." He muttered.

He started to run towards me. My first instinct was to take a few steps back until I tripped with something. He used that chance to jump towards me.

For some reason, I decided to grab what was on the ground and use it to protect myself. Why? I am still trying to figure it out. But when the captain's fist connected with it, I noticed it was a morning star.

STR vs DEF check!

50 vs 10+35(80 -LV)

I could barely process what was happening when the words Success appeared in front of me and the attack got deflected and Balor, with wide eyes, had to take a few steps back.

"Safe haven!" I then heard the voice of Dara.

I felt getting pulled up and then thrown back. When I opened my eyes, I found myself again on the courtyard of the palace, the dummy was there.

Somehow, we were safe again.
