Chapter 9 - Chapter 9: The Super Warehouse

With the gun deal settled, Carl felt a significant weight lifted off his shoulders. In the apocalypse, possessing such a weapon gave him immense confidence, whether facing humans or otherworldly creatures.

The next day, Carl packed some important belongings into his personal storage space. Since his house was being converted into a safe house, he planned to temporarily move to a hotel.

Early in the morning, three black vans drove into Yuelu Community. A large group of workers from Battle Dragon Company, dressed in uniforms, began measuring the dimensions of Carl's house.

Many neighbors watched the scene with curiosity.

"Has Carl taken some strange medication lately? Why is he always up to so much nonsense?"

A few colleagues chuckled, "Just the other day, I saw him at the supermarket buying three shopping carts full of food!"

"Haha! If you didn't know better, you'd think the apocalypse was coming. What a waste if it all expires!"

"Maybe he's having some mental issues!"

Everyone found Carl's unusual behavior puzzling, but no one cared enough to investigate further; they simply viewed him as a source of amusement.

Even Anna and Cherry believed Carl had lost his mind.

Cherry suddenly realized, "Now I get it! No wonder he went to that Michelin three-star restaurant the other day. It must be because he's gone crazy!"

Anna frowned, feeling particularly upset. She recalled how she had approached Carl that day and helped him carry so many things home, exhausting herself in the process, and it only fueled her anger.

"What on earth is Carl up to?"

Cherry expressed her concern, "He promised to treat us to a big meal. He wouldn't forget, would he?"

She had been looking forward to dining at that Michelin three-star restaurant!

Anna scoffed, "Forget it! With the way he's been acting lately, even if he invites me, I wouldn't go."

"What if people see us eating together? That would be so embarrassing!"

She had plans to attract a wealthy partner and couldn't afford to ruin her reputation.

Cherry felt reluctant but ultimately had to give up on the idea.

Meanwhile, Carl was completely unconcerned about what the neighbors thought. In a month, they would understand who the real joke was.

Carl left his house and drove to the Walmart warehouse. It was Monday, time to work, and he also planned to scout the warehouse thoroughly for future actions.

The Walmart warehouse was located in the Economic Development Zone, on the outskirts of Haitian City. The land was relatively cheap here, making it a hub for many large corporations' warehouses, including some pharmaceutical companies. This would make it easier for Carl to acquire some special medications later on.

Upon arriving at the Walmart warehouse, Carl clocked in for work. As the warehouse supervisor, he was intimately familiar with the place. He knew every storage area and even each shelf like the back of his hand.

In the past, he often found his job here boring. However, today, seeing the massive warehouses filled with goods worth billions, he felt an overwhelming excitement. Soon, all these resources would be his, crucial for survival in the apocalypse.

As the central warehouse for Walmart in South China, the quantity of supplies here was beyond anyone's imagination. There were tens of thousands of cans of soda alone!

The entire warehouse spanned over a million square feet, packed with various daily necessities. In addition to food, clothing, and hardware, there were also cars, drones, diesel generators, and barrels of gasoline.

Almost anything that could be sold in a supermarket could be found here.

Having worked here for many years, Carl knew exactly what was on each shelf. He was also well aware of the work schedule and the locations of the surveillance cameras.

Despite the tight security, he had identified the vulnerabilities and could disable the entire monitoring system within ten minutes. Then, using his spatial abilities, he could take everything from the warehouse!

However, Carl wasn't in a rush to act. There was plenty of time, and he didn't want to raise any alarms. After wandering around the warehouse, he left.

With a pack of Marlboro cigarettes in hand, he headed to the neighboring Ruining Pharmaceutical Company warehouse. Since he worked in the same area, he was familiar with the staff there.

Upon arrival, he found Bob, a manager at their warehouse. They all knew each other well. In a large corporation's warehouse, there were always people who relied on it for personal gain. Bob's brother-in-law was the vice president of Ruining Group, so he often pilfered medications to sell.

After chatting with Bob, Carl subtly brought up his objective, hoping to acquire a few boxes of emergency medications.

Bob was initially cautious, but when Carl offered to pay double the market price for the drugs, Bob couldn't resist.

Ultimately, they struck a deal for five boxes of medication at three million.

If measured by a normal person's standards, one would rarely need such medications in a lifetime.

With the drugs secured, Carl had almost everything he needed for the impending apocalypse. With less than a month to go, he certainly wasn't in the mood to continue working.

So, he went to the warehouse manager's office and fabricated a story about his grandfather passing away, requesting a twenty-day leave to attend the funeral.

Carl was well-liked, and his relationship with the manager was good. Despite the absurdity of his request, he faced no difficulties and easily secured the time off.

For the next period, Carl planned to lounge comfortably in a five-star hotel, waiting for his supplies to arrive and the safe house to be completed.

As he exited the manager's office, he spotted Anna at the coffee machine, pouring herself a cup.

It had to be said, she had a certain allure about her, exuding an air of seduction. Even while pouring coffee, she swayed her hips enticingly, attracting the attention of some eager young men nearby.

One man, grinning widely, invited Anna to a Jay Chou concert, flaunting his tickets.

This man was named Frey, and Carl remembered him well. They lived in the same community, and he was Anna's loyal admirer. In Carl's previous life, Frey had played a part in his downfall.
