Chapter 13 - The Soul Blessing

Feng Rui was left utterly alone, surrounded by a ruined world. Even the zombies didn't attack him. It was as if his immobility had made him part of the environment—an invisible shadow.

Day by day, his body deteriorated.

The system forced him to witness the struggles of others, showing him the fates of every person he had once cared about.

He saw his friends fighting to survive, some betraying their principles and humanity to do so. Others met gruesome, horrifying deaths.

His relatives fared no better.

But the most painful vision was that of his girlfriend.

She had always been his weakness, and seeing her pain became his own.

He watched her struggle to survive, applauded every victory and encouraged her through every defeat. She never lost her essence and became an admired leader among the refugees.

She was beautiful, intelligent, and kind. It wasn't surprising when the arrogant leader of a refugee shelter began courting her.

Even though he always asked her to find someone else after her accident, seeing her actually do it destroyed him in every way possible.

'The system is still as sadistic as ever,' he thought bitterly.

For years, she honored his memory, avoiding any romantic connections. But as humanity began to stabilize, it was inevitable. The leader won her heart.

He saw everything.

At least she lived well and never lacked anything.

She managed to get married and have a baby.

She fulfilled her dream of being a mother, just not with him.

"A match made in heaven," everyone said as Feng Rui observed helplessly.

But her happiness didn't last.

A third woman inserted herself into their relationship.

Feng Rui wanted to kill that jerk for his selfishness. The man had everything Feng Rui had ever wanted and he threw it away for a night in another woman's skirt.

The woman succeeded in her scheme, becoming pregnant. It was unclear if the child was the leader, but it was enough for her to demand VIP treatment as a high-ranking officer who had made many contributions to the base.

The leader couldn't refuse.

Children were not only humanity's future but also potential research subjects for the mysterious zombie virus.

Naturally, they didn't know that the virus was just a consequence of the spiritual energy that had flooded the world.

Those who weren't compatible got sick.

And those who were could cultivate and create magic, but it would still take a while for them to notice that.

In the game, zombies appeared due to human experiments, but in the end, the evil energy was able to corrupt other cultivators and it was no different than a pandemic.

Time passed.

His ex-girlfriend didn't go back to the leader, she became independent with her son who was now walking.

The leader had another child with the new woman and forgot about his firstborn. The ambitious woman, not satisfied with her position, eventually sent Feng Rui's ex-girlfriend on a dangerous mission.

Her death was inevitable.

Her only regret was for her son. But as life slipped away, the name she whispered was Yun Chen.

She had missed him deeply and was ready to reunite with him.

But Yun Chen remained trapped in the game.

The air around Feng Rui changed abruptly. The world of the Legacy twisted and morphed, forming a scene he didn't immediately recognize. Slowly, the images became clear, and what he saw left him frozen.

In front of him was… himself.

A different Feng Rui, one consumed by pain, despair, and the scars of his previous life. This Feng Rui had a vacant gaze, but his eyes shone with a madness that could only be born from the deepest suffering. His figure was imposing, surrounded by a dense, black aura, and his mere presence made the space cold.

At some point he was no longer a spectator, but rather himself, being moved as if he were a title.

This version of himself lost everything and wanted others to suffer with him. If he couldn't destroy the zombies, then he would join them.

With that thought, he founded a demonic cultivation sect dedicated to exploring the limits of corruption and evil energy.

"Can't you win against the darkness? Then make it yours." It was his voice, but he didn't recognize it, it sounded deeper, hoarse, and… chilling.

He gathered the rejected, the lost, and the desperate: humans cast out by righteous sects, betrayed by their clans, or humiliated by the powerful. Those already tainted by corruption sought him, craving power.

And Feng Rui gave it to them, no matter the cost.

Under his leadership, atrocities became the norm. Humans were sacrificed, their bodies twisted into undying zombies—unstoppable tools of war. Each experiment pushed the boundaries of what was imaginable, defying the laws of life and death.

Power consumed him, and his sect grew rapidly, becoming a direct threat to the righteous sects. With armies of zombies, demons, and corrupted cultivators under his command, Feng Rui declared war.

"If the world rejects me, I will rebuild it with my strength.," he said, his words dripping with scorn.

Feng Rui's consciousness was fading, occasionally resurfacing and panicking at what he had caused. It was him, but it wasn't entirely him either.

He was no longer innocent.

He was the killer, the perpetrator.

This fear was new to Feng Rui. He never expected something like this to exist within his subconscious.

He feared becoming a monster—and now he was living it, in the flesh.

Once again, he wished for death, but for different reasons.

He longed for someone to stop him.

Over time, even the righteous sects and powerful clans could no longer ignore the threat posed by Feng Rui. What had begun as small skirmishes soon escalated into full-scale war, with blood-soaked battlefields and the clash of energies darkening the skies.

Feng Rui watched in horror as he led his army with a twisted smile, fighting against those who tried to stop him. The righteous cultivators called him the "Celestial Demon," a title he accepted proudly from the depths of his heart and identified with.

He had practically become their arch-enemy.

He watched as his previous clan faced him.

He defeated his father, the elders of the clan who had always annoyed him, and... his sister.
