Chereads / DIAGRAM: THE HEART / Chapter 5 - Camin

Chapter 5 - Camin

"Huh? What do you mean, you couldn't find a carrier?" The grumpy middle-aged man scratched his nose.

"W-we..." The messenger shook in his boots, but when he saw the man wave it away, he breathed a sigh of relief.

'Hmm, is this on purpose? After all that news came at too opportune a time.' Baron, the middle-aged man scratched his chin as he fell into thought.

It was a few days ago, that information suddenly started leaking out, crawling through every nook and cranny.

As abnormal as it was for information to spread that fast, what was maybe more alarming was what the information concerned.

Eversnow's 'Legend"

It was simple really. All that was leaked was coordinates to a particular location.

It read, 'Come and you shall find the secrets you seek.'

But strangely enough, no further details were spread. Almost as if the leak was simply to lure people towards the mountain.

'Hmmm, why?' Baron pondered. He couldn't wrap his head around it, but that only made him more cautious. Whoever was behind this certainly did not have such pure intentions.

Unfortunately, such an opportunity was too tempting. Even for him, much less others.

"...Hello Sir." A young man walked up to the table where Baron sat with his group.

"You are?" Baron snorted, looking the young man up and down.

"Camin sir. Nice to meet you..." Camin scratched the back of his head as he stretched out his other hand for Baron to shake, unfortunately, he was met with a gaze intent on seeing through him.

'Is he the cause?' Baron frowned. There was only one reason he had this thought. He hadn't noticed when this kid got close.

But when he started to observe him he started to doubt himself. 'Was I wrong?'

"...I heard you were looking for a carrier." Camin finally split his intentions, seeing Baron's gaze grow increasingly hostile.

Internally though his heart shook. 'He's sharp.'

"Oh? You are weak. Leave." Baron scoffed. But it helped calm his hostility somewhat.

"I insist sir." Camin took soft glances at his still stretched-out arm, giving Baron hints on what to do.

"Pretty arrogant heh? Don't blame me if you break a hand, kid." Baron took hold of the hand, 'Let's use half.' He thought to himself.

"Oh, I would never," Camin said with a cheeky smile.

"Hmm?" Baron looked the kid in the eyes. 'Nothing?' It was almost as if the kid didn't feel the pain at all. What was his gimmick?

'Should I?' He contemplated using more strength but shook his head in the end. It wasn't worth it.

"Welcome aboard...?" Baron said with a questioning gaze, as he waited for the boy to complete his sentence.

"Camin sir." Camin scratched the back of his head again, letting out a soft chuckle of his own. Why was this man still feigning ignorance like this?

But he wisely chose not to say anything. When dealing with people like this, it was better to tread lightly.

"Camin it is." Baron nodded his head in approval. Kids like this were worth keeping around.

Or at least that was how he made it appear. In truth, he had already signaled people looking for as much information as they could find about this 'Camin.'

As for Camin himself, he was still smiling but his dull eyes revealed his thoughts.

Naturally, this man could be none other than Reaper. He didn't use a disguise this time around. No one recognized his face anyway. As for what he was doing here, he was finishing off the last of the plans he had in this place.

This plan in particular involved Mount Eversnow. The unique phenomenon of this town.
