Chapter 77 - The Sentinel of the Labyrinth

The towering guardian loomed before Lin Xuan and his companions, its gleaming silver body radiating a palpable aura of menace. Unlike the earlier constructs, this one was far more intricate. Its limbs were adorned with glowing runes, and a core of pulsating blue light shone from its chest. The air around it crackled with energy, and the faint hum that had permeated the labyrinth grew into a deafening resonance.

"This thing's no ordinary construct," Yu Mei said, her voice taut with tension. "Its aura feels... alive."

Lin Xuan studied the guardian closely, his gaze sharpening. "It's drawing energy directly from the labyrinth. This isn't just a guardian; it's the heart of this place."

Li Fengxian stepped forward, gripping his spear tightly. "Then we cut it down, no matter what it takes."

The guardian roared, a sound that was both mechanical and primal, and charged at them with surprising speed. Its massive arms swung downward, aiming to crush the intruders in a single blow.

---

"Scatter!" Lin Xuan shouted.

The group split apart, narrowly avoiding the devastating strike. The impact shattered the stone floor, sending shards flying in all directions. Lin Xuan darted to the side, his sword flashing as he slashed at the guardian's leg. Sparks flew, but his blade barely left a scratch.

"Its defenses are insane!" Xu Yan yelled, launching a barrage of strikes at the construct's back. His attacks, though precise, only seemed to irritate the creature.

Yu Mei leapt gracefully onto the guardian's arm, aiming for the glowing runes. Her daggers struck true, disrupting the flow of energy for a moment, but the guardian quickly retaliated, shaking her off with a violent swing.

---

"It's too strong!" Xu Yan called out, his frustration mounting. "We're not making a dent!"

Lin Xuan's mind raced. The guardian wasn't just a test of strength—it was a challenge designed to force them to think strategically. He glanced at the runes Yu Mei had targeted and noticed the brief disruption in the guardian's movements.

"The runes!" Lin Xuan shouted. "They're its weak points! Aim for them!"

Yu Mei nodded, flipping back to her feet. "On it!"

Li Fengxian charged in with a battle cry, his spear glowing with spiritual energy. He thrust it at one of the glowing runes on the guardian's leg, and this time, the construct faltered slightly. The blue light in its core flickered, and its movements slowed for a brief moment.

"It's working!" Li Fengxian exclaimed. "Keep hitting the runes!"

---

The group coordinated their efforts, targeting the glowing symbols one by one. Xu Yan and Yu Mei worked in tandem, using their speed and agility to strike at the runes on the guardian's upper body, while Li Fengxian and Lin Xuan focused on its legs.

But the guardian wasn't going down without a fight. It unleashed a shockwave of energy, knocking everyone back. Lin Xuan hit the ground hard, his vision swimming. He gritted his teeth and pushed himself up, his hand instinctively gripping the shard.

The shard pulsed in response, its energy coursing through his veins. Lin Xuan's mind cleared, and he felt a surge of strength. The faint whispers from the shard grew louder, guiding his thoughts.

"The core," Lin Xuan murmured, his eyes locking onto the glowing blue light in the guardian's chest. "We need to destroy the core!"

---

The others heard him and adjusted their strategy. Yu Mei and Xu Yan worked to distract the guardian, drawing its attacks away from Lin Xuan and Li Fengxian.

"Fengxian, give me a boost!" Lin Xuan called out.

Li Fengxian nodded and crouched down, his hands clasped together to form a foothold. Lin Xuan sprinted toward him, and with a powerful heave, Li Fengxian launched him into the air.

Time seemed to slow as Lin Xuan soared toward the guardian's chest. The construct's glowing core pulsed with energy, and Lin Xuan could feel the immense power radiating from it. Channeling his spiritual energy into his sword, he aimed for the core with all his might.

"Heavenly Sundering Slash!" Lin Xuan roared, his blade descending like a streak of light.

The sword struck the core dead center, and for a moment, the guardian froze. The blue light in its chest flickered violently, and cracks began to spread across its body. A deafening roar echoed through the chamber as the guardian's energy surged out of control.

---

"Get back!" Lin Xuan shouted, landing on the ground and sprinting away from the construct.

The others followed his lead, retreating to the edges of the chamber. The guardian let out one final, anguished cry before its core exploded in a brilliant flash of blue light. The force of the explosion shook the labyrinth, and the walls trembled as if in protest.

When the light faded, the guardian was gone, reduced to a pile of smoldering silver shards. The hum in the air subsided, and an eerie silence settled over the chamber.

---

"We did it," Xu Yan said, breathing heavily. "That thing was a nightmare."

Li Fengxian nodded, wiping sweat from his brow. "But it's over now. The labyrinth is beaten."

Lin Xuan approached the pedestal at the center of the room. The key still rested atop it, untouched by the chaos of the battle. He reached out and picked it up, feeling a faint pulse of energy as he did.

"This is the key to the next gate," Lin Xuan said, holding it up for the others to see. "We're one step closer to our goal."

---

As the group exited the chamber, the labyrinth's walls began to shift once more, but this time, they opened a clear path back to the entrance. It was as if the maze had acknowledged their victory.

When they finally emerged from the labyrinth, the mountain's peak was bathed in the golden light of dawn. The air was crisp and refreshing, a stark contrast to the oppressive atmosphere of the maze.

"What's next?" Yu Mei asked, her tone a mix of curiosity and determination.

Lin Xuan gazed at the horizon, his grip tightening around the key. "We keep moving forward. The trials will only get harder from here, but so will we."

The group nodded in agreement, their resolve stronger than ever. The labyrinth had tested their strength, their unity, and their will, but they had emerged victorious. The path ahead was still uncertain, but together, they were ready to face whatever came next.
