Chapter 75 - The Gate of Trials

The towering stone gate loomed before Lin Xuan and his companions, its ancient carvings glowing faintly in the dim mountain light. The gate's surface shimmered with a strange energy, as though alive and watching their every move. The shard in Lin Xuan's hand pulsed with an urgent rhythm, its glow illuminating the symbols etched into the gate.

"What do you think this is?" Xu Yan asked, stepping closer and running his hand along the smooth, cold stone.

Yu Mei frowned, studying the carvings with a keen eye. "It's no ordinary gate. The symbols… they're runes of power. A formation of some kind."

Lin Xuan closed his eyes and let his spiritual sense flow into the shard. The shard resonated with the gate, revealing a faint path of energy that seemed to stretch beyond the physical barrier. When he opened his eyes, his gaze was sharp with determination.

"It's a test," Lin Xuan said, his voice calm yet firm. "The shard is reacting to the gate, but we'll need to unlock it ourselves."

---

The group gathered before the gate, each member bracing themselves for what lay ahead. Lin Xuan stepped forward, holding the shard aloft. Its glow intensified, casting a pale light over the gate's surface.

Suddenly, the carvings began to shift, the runes rearranging themselves into an intricate pattern. The air grew heavy, charged with an oppressive energy that pressed down on them.

A deep, resonant voice echoed from the gate.

"Only those who are worthy may pass. Prove your strength, your mind, and your heart, or be consumed by the mountain's will."

The ground trembled, and the gate split into three sections, each revealing a different path. The voice continued, its tone cold and unyielding.

"Choose wisely, for the path you select will define your fate."

---

The group exchanged uncertain glances, the weight of the decision pressing down on them.

"Three paths…" Li Fengxian murmured, gripping his spear tightly. "Strength, mind, and heart. Each one a different challenge."

Yu Mei nodded, her brow furrowed in thought. "Splitting up would be dangerous, but if the gate is testing us individually, we may not have a choice."

Lin Xuan studied the paths, his mind racing. Each passage seemed to pulse with its own distinct energy—one wild and fierce, one calm and measured, and one warm yet elusive.

"We'll take the test as a group," Lin Xuan decided. "If we face it together, our chances are higher."

Xu Yan exhaled in relief. "Good. Splitting up in a place like this sounds like asking for trouble."

---

Lin Xuan led the group down the central path, which radiated a balanced energy that seemed to encompass all three aspects. The tunnel was narrow and dark, the only light coming from the shard. The air felt thick, as though the mountain itself was watching them.

After several minutes, the tunnel opened into a massive chamber. The walls were lined with glowing runes, and in the center stood three pedestals, each holding a different object—a sword, a book, and a mirror.

The voice from the gate echoed once more.

"Choose the object that reflects your essence. Only the true choice will lead you forward. The wrong choice will end your journey."

---

The group approached the pedestals cautiously, their eyes fixed on the objects.

Li Fengxian reached for the sword instinctively, his warrior's spirit resonating with its sharp, gleaming edge. "This feels right for me," he said, gripping the hilt.

Yu Mei's gaze lingered on the mirror, her reflection distorted by the surface's ripples. "This one speaks to me," she said softly, lifting the mirror with care.

Lin Xuan stood before the book, its pages glowing faintly with ancient runes. He hesitated for a moment, then picked it up. As his fingers brushed the cover, the shard in his hand pulsed with approval.

Xu Yan laughed nervously, stepping back. "Guess I'll stick with my sword and let you geniuses figure this out."

---

The moment they made their choices, the chamber shifted. The runes on the walls flared to life, and the objects in their hands dissolved into streams of light that flowed into their bodies.

A powerful force swept through the room, and the voice spoke again.

"Your choices define your path. Prove your worth, and the gate shall open."

The ground beneath their feet rumbled, and figures began to emerge from the walls—phantoms of warriors, scholars, and shadowy figures. Their forms were translucent, yet their movements were precise and deadly.

"Prepare yourselves!" Lin Xuan shouted, drawing his sword.

---

The battle was chaotic, each member of the group facing their own set of challenges.

Li Fengxian fought fiercely, his spear clashing with the phantoms of ancient warriors. His every move was a dance of precision and power, the resonance of the sword he had chosen amplifying his strikes.

Yu Mei moved like a shadow, the mirror in her hand creating illusions that confused and disoriented her foes. Her daggers flashed in the dim light, striking with deadly accuracy.

Lin Xuan focused on the phantoms that swarmed him, the knowledge from the book flowing into his mind. He unleashed techniques he had never practiced before, the shard amplifying his power and guiding his blade.

Xu Yan backed them up, his swordsmanship solid and unwavering. Though he hadn't chosen an object, his determination and loyalty to his friends drove him forward.

---

As the last phantom dissolved into light, the room fell silent. The energy from their battles coalesced into a single point, forming a key of pure light.

The voice spoke one final time.

"You have proven your worth. The gate awaits. Step forward and claim your destiny."

---

The group stood together, their breaths heavy but their spirits unbroken. Lin Xuan held the key, its light warm and reassuring.

"We did it," Yu Mei said, her voice filled with quiet pride.

Li Fengxian chuckled, resting his spear on his shoulder. "One step closer. Let's see what else this mountain has in store."

Lin Xuan nodded, his gaze steady as they approached the gate. "Whatever lies beyond, we face it together."

The key fit perfectly into the gate's center, and as it turned, the massive doors swung open. A blinding light spilled out, and the group stepped forward, ready to face the unknown.
