Chapter 3 - First Stop

They reached the village of Alder La Hain without incident. It had taken two days, and it was night. "Be careful, he can get drunk here at night," Tristan said and left Arthur and Beatrice to find a place to stay. "We're going to the tavern," Arthur shouted after him, "I hope he heard us." Arthur and Beatrice went into a tavern. Beatrice actually said to Arthur, "I don't think we should go to the tavern. Tristan warned us there might be drunks. And you say we should go to the tavern. The tavern must be full of drunks." Arthur said, "Nothing will happen with me. There's no other place open anyway." When they entered the tavern, Arthur immediately grabbed a seat in the corner of the tavern, and they both sat there. The bartender noticed them, left the counter, and went over to them. He said to them, "How old are you two?" "We are both eleven," Beatrice said in a low voice. The bartender said, "You're not allowed in here." Arthur said, "We're just waiting for a friend. We'll go when he arrives." And the bartender said, "Absolutely not. Get out now!" And Beatrice said, "Please let us stay. We won't be long anyway." The bartender didn't want to offend them and let them stay. Beatrice said to Arthur, "See, I used my charm, and he let us stay." And Arthur said, "I bet you did." Then the bartender brought them lemonade. Arthur said, "We didn't ask for lemonade. And we don't have our money with us." The bartender said, "Don't worry, I told my boss about you, and he asked me to offer you lemonade." They both thanked him and drank the lemonade.
