Running footsteps in the background….
Sounds of engine and loud noises…
Multiple footsteps chasing another…
Panting getting closer...
Voice head cursing out loud...
"Thief!" A man cried out as he chases after the one who seemly stole from him. "Thief!" He cried out again as he's been followed by few men trying to help.
"Hey!" a passerby hit by the commotion yells.
Hi there!
No, this way… a little to you left, then look down.
Yeah, me.
Hi again, my name is Alice Crane and I know you might be wondering why that ginormous looking man with a stall bread in his hands as he chases after me? And why I, a girl who isn't more than Ten is running away from him? Well, the thing is, I stole from him; don't get me wrong, it's not that am a thief or anything but I was really really hungry you see and I needed to eat but I didn't have any money and this man owes me for the services I rendered to him. You wash dishes you get paid but he refused to pay so I took my wages worth.
You see, am an orphan and I was taken.
Yes!
Taken from the orphanage I had knew to be my only home, and here is how it all began...
Ten years ago when a mysterious woman left me at the door steps of Saint Matthew's Cathedral, with some words explaining who I was and also some written words that explain nothing…
You could say that, that's where my story begins...
Ten Years Ago…
Ahhh-huh… Panting…
Rustling through the woods...
Running sounds and heavy breathing sound...
Whistling sound heard in a distance...
Dogs barking in a distance...
"Spread out. Find her" man's voice echo's in a distance...
Footsteps running fast and heavy breathing continues...
Heavy heartbeat beating in a distance...
Voice heard murmuring in a distance "Don't let her escape. Find her"...
Dogs' voice heard continue to bark...
Rumbling of thunder roar and lightening piercing through the dark night…
Rustling of a heavy down pour…
Drops of rain falls into a puddle...
Fast footsteps heard walking in a distance….
Footsteps getting closer…Closer. Closer
Heavy breathing and sigh follows…
Footsteps climbing stairs…
Baby noises heard, and in the rustling basket…
Sound of Inhaling and exhaling heavily as footstep halts in place…
Baby noises heard giggling…
Basket placed in front of a church and rustling of paper removed from clothe placed into the basket…
Baby noise heard… giggling continues
Baby begins sobbing...
Heavy breathing getting closer to the basket...
A dark shadow getting closer to the basket as the lightning broke out, followed by a roaring loud thunder…
"Knock…knock..."
Breathing getting heavy and thick...
Sobbing sound getting closer to the basket...
"Am so sorry. I have to do this, my darling" she whisper as she sobs "Just know…just know I love you and I will always look out for you know matter where I am" she spoke in a whispers.
Drops of tears follows onto infants' cheek...
Knocking heard on the wooden door the second time…
Footsteps heard living the scene and cracks heard from the wooden door as it opens up…
Footsteps fades into the night...
Footsteps approaches the basket and picks it up…
Baby heard crying nonstop…
Thunder roars break out...
Baby crying excessively...
"You poor thing!" man speaks to the infant in the basket "Stop crying now child, you are safe"
Man picks up the baby but a letter falls to the ground with a unique necklace around the baby's neck.
"Who's it?" another man from inside asked the man with the basket.
He showed him the letter as he picked it up, with the baby still in his arms, as she giggled.
The two men looked at the baby and shook their heads with them making the sign of the cross.
"Father Gabriel, who would dare do this? Abandoning a child here at this ungodly hour" he said as he playfully played with the baby in his arms.
Father Gabriel hands over the child to second man, unfolds the letter and reads it.
The second man makes funny gestures to the now crying child in his arms as he tries to sooth her but it didn't work.
"I don't think the child's mother wished to abandon this child… and the letter indicts so. Isn't that right little Alice?!" He told Father John as he took the child from him and Father John taking the letter in turn and reads it as well.
Father Gabriel held the child in a cheerful manner, whispering words to her as she giggled.
The night was cold and drenched by the rain and roaring thunders but the laughter of little Alice made the cold night warm.
"So what do we do now?" Father John asked as he folded the letter back into the envelop.
"I think her mother is on the run and this child definitely needs a mother's care and I don't think she's coming back any time soon." He said as he watched Father Gabriel bond with young child in a playful.
"It's okay now...you are safe, Alice" he told her as tried his best to comfort the crying child.
