Chapter 2 - 002|Mesmerized

ZAYN'S POV

The crowd murmurs with enthusiasm, an uproar of cheers, shouts, and revving engines fill the night air. The pale glow of lights from the track cuts through the darkness, but it doesn't matter. Not the race, nor the adrenaline pumping in my veins, nor the pressure of maintaining the reputation.

I feel it before I see it—an electric charge, a shift in the air, like the world tilting on its axis. Something, or someone, pulls my attention, and instinctively, I scan the crowd.

There, standing in the crowd, is the most beautiful girl I've ever laid eyes on.

She's wearing a black shirt and shorts that hugs her curves perfectly, and her pale skin contrasts with the dark fabric. Her hair is long and straight, falling to her mid back, its black colour stark against her complexion. But it's her eyes that captivate me the most, large and expressive, a deep shade of brown that seems to draw me in with their intensity.

She is the most beautiful girl I've ever seen, her beauty almost ethereal, and it's not just her physical appearance, it's her entire aura, her presence that draws me in like a moth to a flame. Even as I'm trying to focus on the race, my mind is completely captivated by her, unable to look away, unable to think of anything else.

Her presence is a soothing ointment.

I'm mesmerised.

My attention is solely fixed on her, and for a brief moment, all my frustration and bitterness are momentarily forgotten as I gaze at her.The more I look at her, the more it hits me. She didn't come into my life to be my peace, she's here to be my destruction, she's here to ruin me.

And I won't even resist.

As if sensing my intense gaze, she turns a little, and our gazes lock. Her eyes meet mine, and it's like a jolt of electricity passing through me. Time seems to stop for a moment as we stare at each other.

I don't look away from her, my gaze never leaving her face as I smirk, silently daring her to look away first. It's a challenge, a claim, a sign that she's mine, even though she doesn't even know it yet.

The smirk on my face grows wider as she doesn't look away, her gaze still holding mine. I keep my eyes locked on her as I raise my hand, my fingers making a clear gesture, signing the words, "You're mine."

"What the hell happened to you at the race, Zayn?" Luca's voice cut through the tension, laced with confusion.

I didn't answer immediately, my jaw tightening as I replayed the moment over and over in my head. Every nerve in my body betrayed me–I wanted to move but I was paralyzed. It felt as though she had casted a dark spell on me holding me captive. I've never lost a race. Not once. But last night, I didn't just lose—I surrendered in front of her.

"Find out who the girl was with Sasha" I said,my voice low and razor-sharp.

"But…" Before Luca could finish his sentence, I shot him a dead stare. He nodded before leaving the room. Resting my head against the headrest,I closed my eyes as her face once again filled my brain.

It wasn't that I'd never seen beautiful women before , but there was something about her—something different, pulling me in, a force I couldn't resist.

My phone startled me from my thoughts with its abrupt buzzing, the harsh sound slicing through the heavy stillness that filled the room. A slow, sinister smirk tugged at the corner of my lips as I saw Luca's message. He had sent the details just like I had expected. Every single piece of her information was now mine.

Her secrets–Her past–Her entire existence was merely a tap away from me.

Isla Ascroft–an 18 year old orphan. Her parents died in a car crash when she was just ten. From then she went to different foster homes but returned back to the orphanage. No one was ever genuine with my baby. No worries! She doesnt need anyone now. She has me now.

I went through her details—her likes, her dislikes—and engraved each one into my soul.

Leaning against the headrest I admired her picture, absolutely enthralled with the little creature before me. Something inexplicably dark arises in my chest. It's black and evil and cruel.

All I want to do is break her. Shatter her into pieces and then arrange those pieces to fit against my own I don't care if they don't fit–I will fucking make them.

I've just found myself a new reason to live–Fuck that my every reason to live–and I wont stop until I am the only one in her mind.

"You look different today," Luca said, his piercing eyes noticing the restless energy about me.

"Waiting for someone," I mumbled, a hint of a smirk tugging at my lips. I scanned the entire quat–searching for her. "Someone special. I'll tell you later."

My voice softened as my eyes darkened. I was waiting for my Dove—the one thing pure enough to calm my chaos, yet fragile enough to shatter in my hands.

A weird feeling swirled in my chest. It felt as if someone was strangling me to death. Getting up, I walked a bit to calm myself and found myself in a classroom. Heart-wrenching tears and shouts could be heard from inside.

I immediately opened the door and saw something that nearly stopped my heartbeat, as anger surged through my veins.
