Chapter 107 - Chapter 107: The Holy City

The television program was a local news report about a small town nearby, detailing recent events that had taken place.

Unidentified heroes had appeared in the town, assisting the police in halting crimes and rescuing several individuals.

The news included interviews; some people expressed support for the heroes, others were indifferent, while a portion opposed them, claiming that their actions disrupted social order.

"Humph! They deserve their misfortune!"

Maria was indignant at those who opposed Nicole and the others. After all, they had selflessly helped, yet they were met with such criticism. It was truly infuriating!

"Heh, well, how should I put it? This world is full of all kinds of people."

Zhao Lun chuckled softly, leisurely slicing a steak. He picked up a small piece with his fork and brought it to his mouth, savoring the natural, delightful flavor of the beef.

"Brian's cooking has improved."

He could tell that Brian's culinary skills had advanced since their last meal.

"Really? Why didn't Maria notice it?"

Maria seemed a little skeptical as she watched Zhao Lun eating with great relish, evidently enjoying the dish.

The television continued broadcasting the story of the unnamed heroes.

However, both of them had lost interest in the news and were focused entirely on finishing their meal.

Only those who had experienced hunger truly understood the value of food. Maria had often gone without enough to eat in the past and was now particularly appreciative of every bite. Although she occasionally complained about the taste, she never wasted food. Even if it was not to her liking, she would still finish it.

As for the unnamed heroes, they were, of course, Nicole and her companions.

The three of them, much like the protagonists in the films they admired, had begun investigating crime-ridden cities, taking action, and then concealing their identities. So far, no convincing clues had been found in the news reports.

The actions of the unnamed heroes resembled the plot of the film Beauty Special Forces, yet no one had made the connection.

People recognized the lead actors as movie stars or company executives. The concept of unnamed heroes in a movie? That was just fiction, not reality. No one would believe it. Even if someone did, no concrete evidence could be found to support the claims. Without evidence, the news outlets would never publish such speculations, for it would only further obscure the truth.

Thanks to this, their film had thrived without any need for publicity.

To conceal their identities, the three of them even made an appearance to cooperate with the promotion.

Unlike the protagonists in the film, they were not truly justice-bringers. They were merely interested in heroic deeds temporarily, using them as a means of honing their skills. If they no longer desired to pursue such a path, the unnamed heroes would fade away.

The unnamed heroes had made their appearance for several days, and today would be the final operation, marking a temporary farewell to their heroics.

Once the television news concluded, Maria immediately instructed Athena to activate the "Sky Eye One" and broadcast a live feed.

The three of them took this mission seriously. They didn't even dine at home but instead began preparations for the operation.

This time, their target had already been selected: a remote town named Holy Angel's City.

It was said to be the site where the Holy Angels had descended, hence the name Holy Angel's City.

This small town, though insignificant and undeveloped in Great Britain, was steeped in religious fervor. The majority of its architecture was church-related, with most buildings dating from the 1950s and '60s.

It was rumored that the people of this town had witnessed divine miracles, leading them to become fanatical believers, and their descendants continued to hold strong faith in God.

As a result, the town was highly insular, with its inhabitants maintaining a lifestyle reminiscent of the medieval period.

Torches were used for illumination, the poor traveled on foot, and the wealthy relied on horse-drawn carriages.

Surveillance was minimal in the town, yet it consistently exuded an air of tranquility, resembling a place from heaven.

Due to the strong religious atmosphere, the town had remained free from external media attention, and it had always been peaceful.

"I can hardly believe such a place still exists."

Every time Zhao Lun saw the town, he couldn't fathom how such a peculiar small town could exist right under his nose.

For a country like Great Britain, it seemed inconceivable that such a primitive town would still be around. In fact, not only did it exist, but it had also been thriving for years, and unless something unexpected occurred, it was likely to continue this way.

Zhao Lun couldn't understand the religious zeal of this town, nor could he grasp the position that God held in their world.

By nightfall, Holy Angel's City had descended into darkness.

Apart from the towering church, which still emitted some light, the rest of the town was shrouded in complete darkness.

The town was eerily quiet, with not a single bark of a dog breaking the stillness.

While other cities at this hour would be oppressively hot, this place remained refreshingly cool, especially at night, when the chill could almost feel unbearable.

Whoosh—

A gust of wind-like force swept through the town and into the surrounding countryside, eventually stopping in a quiet village on the outskirts.

The village still had some light visible, and it was from there that an unusual vehicle, curiously designed, had stopped. What was even stranger was that the car had been driving without headlights.

The car had parked without making much noise.

The village was alive with commotion, with loud cheers and shouts echoing from within.

"Ha-ha, cheers!"

"How refreshing!"

The sounds of laughter and drinking were loud, and without even stepping inside, one could hear the noise coming from the village.

At that moment, the car door opened, and three tall figures, each wearing a mask, dressed in tight-fitting gear, and carrying weapons, emerged.

Without speaking, they checked their equipment, then split up, moving quickly in three different directions towards the village.

In no time, the previously loud noises of the village fell silent, replaced by shouts of anger and agonized screams.

Bang! Bang! Shots rang out amidst the shouting.

Boom! Explosions added to the chaos.

The disturbance lasted for about half an hour, and when everything finally quieted down, the village was engulfed in flames.

At that moment, a few young women, clearly distressed, staggered out of the ruins.

Their faces were pale and sickly, looking like a herd of frightened lambs.

Boom! A loud noise came from a small courtyard that had not been destroyed, and soon, two dilapidated old trucks emerged.

"Get in the truck!"

A mechanical voice came from one of the vehicles.

The voice was genderless, distorted by some kind of voice-modifying device.

No one seemed to mind, as they eagerly boarded the trucks.

The old trucks rumbled as they left the village, passing through the ancient town, heading in the direction they had come from.

Holy Angel's City seemed to have erupted like a volcano, suddenly ablaze with countless torches. Furious believers, wielding weapons, charged toward the retreating trucks, their faces crazed.

"Ugh!" Zhao Lun was shocked by the fanaticism of the followers.

At that moment, these followers appeared like deranged gamblers, intent on dragging their enemies to hell, driven by a desire for total destruction.

The trucks quickly distanced themselves from the crowd, and Zhao Lun breathed a sigh of relief.

He couldn't bear to imagine what kind of punishment the people in the trucks would face if captured by these frenzied zealots.

A hangman's noose? Or perhaps the stake?

Cain's City.

This city, located near Holy Angel's City, stood in stark contrast to it—like two worlds apart.
