Chapter 96 - Chapter 96: The True Culprit

"How shameless!"

"How could they do this?"

"This has nothing to do with terrorists!"

"These cabinet politicians are truly despicable!"

"Incredible!"

"Indeed, we can never trust these shameless people again!"

The voices of indignation echoed from those gathered, their anger directed not at the terrorists, but at the politicians on the screen.

Zhao Lun remained silent, allowing them to express their outrage. He didn't join in, but instead, gently rubbed his cheek, lost in thought.

Eventually, the frustration became unbearable, and they turned off the television, no longer able to watch.

"Ellen, what should we do?"

"These scoundrels have once again made innocent people take the blame."

"How many more innocent lives have been lost because of them?"

Seeing Zhao Lun sitting calmly to one side, the women asked for his advice. These kind-hearted women didn't want any more innocent people to suffer such a tragedy; they wanted to do something to help.

"Ellen, what do you think we should do?"

"What should we do? Nothing at all!"

"We cannot change the will of this country."

"They must fend for themselves."

Zhao Lun spoke coldly.

There were far too many innocent people in this world for him to help. Even if he tried, it would be impossible to manage them all.

Besides, these people had no connection to him, and it would be foolish to antagonize this country over strangers.

This country wasn't what it appeared to be on the surface. Hastily intervening would lead to undesirable outcomes. Their power was limited, and even if they wanted to help, they couldn't.

Zhao Lun instructed Athena to activate the projector and select a video. The footage fast-forwarded, arriving at the moment when the attack had occurred.

"Take a good look at the video, you should be able to notice something."

The video showed two strangers appearing in the town ten minutes before the incident. These two individuals were notably different from the locals, both in their attire and their overall appearance.

Their faces were pale and unhealthy-looking, their clothing garish and mismatched, and they attracted a lot of attention as they walked through the streets.

The two strangers wore expressions of arrogant disdain, glaring at everything with contempt, making them appear somewhat unhinged.

People nearby avoided them, sensing their abnormality.

The two strangers continued on their way, their direction never changing. When they passed a prominent building in the town, they paused briefly before proceeding to the old district.

If events had continued along this path, nothing would have gone awry.

But, alas, there are always those who, oblivious to the consequences, choose to tempt fate.

A group of hippie-like individuals appeared and, upon seeing the strangers, boldly chose to provoke them.

"Get lost! You filthy creatures!"

The two strangers angrily retorted, warning them not to approach.

"F*ck!"

The hippie, enraged, shot them a middle finger.

"Looking for death!"

The two strangers, furious, one of them pulling out what looked like a wooden stick, muttered something under their breath.

A brilliant light emitted from the stick, striking the provocateurs.

Thud! One person was cleaved in two, their body split as if by a sharp blade; another was severed at the waist.

The force didn't stop there, and the strike continued, leaving a massive gash in the ground.

The other stranger, who hadn't yet acted, was startled. He cursed, then took out a similar wooden stick, muttering another incantation. The stick emitted a blazing light and was hurled into the gash.

Boom! An explosive sound rang out, followed by a thick cloud of smoke. The screen was engulfed in chaos, the image blurry and indistinct.

"Ah!!!"

"Murderer!"

"Explosion! Attack!"

"Help!"

After the explosion, the camera was disrupted, static and crackling noises filling the air.

This continued for a minute, and when the image cleared, the scene revealed utter devastation, with people crying out in agony.

The two strangers were gone, but the hippies who had provoked them were now dismembered, their bodies barely recognizable. One was at the epicenter of the explosion, reduced to nothing but ashes.

Not far away, several individuals were sprawled on the ground, bleeding heavily, while others, undeterred by their own safety, rushed to help the wounded.

Nearby buildings were also affected, their structures destroyed, resembling the aftermath of a bombing.

Some buildings were inexplicably on fire, black smoke billowing as it spread rapidly.

The scene was utter chaos.

Some unfortunate children had become separated from their mothers, crying loudly in fear, while others had been knocked down in the panic, suffering injuries.

The entire town had descended into chaos. From an aerial view, it resembled a large-scale disaster zone.

But the video did not end there; it quickly switched to another scene, a clean, wide, and pristine road.

The trees along the path were unique, and the women immediately recognized the location.

Seeing this familiar sight, the previously angry women suddenly sensed something was wrong.

"Zzzzz..." The camera once again experienced interference.

Suddenly, the two previously disappeared strangers reappeared on the screen.

At this moment, for some unknown reason, their voices could no longer be heard.

From their expressions, it was clear that they were angry, muttering complaints to one another, but then they fell silent. The first of the two strangers, holding the powerful wooden stick, began walking forward.

A map then appeared on the screen, showing their path leading directly to their manor.

"Hiss!"

Realization dawned on the women, and their faces turned pale.

"They've arrived?!"

Maria belatedly realized the danger and anxiously looked out the window.

Outside, the sun blazed fiercely, the heat causing the plants to wilt, and not a single sound of wind could be heard. The enemy appeared to be approaching.

The video continued.

The two strangers, now walking forward, suddenly stopped, their eyes scanning the surroundings with heightened vigilance.

The wooden stick in one of their hands flickered with erratic light.

"Zzzzz..."

The magnetic field around them was disturbed, and the video began to display more static.

"Screech!"

A familiar screeching sound emerged from the video.

Whoosh! Something sliced through the air.

Boom! Another explosion followed.

"Zzzzz... Crack... Zzzzz..."

The video was soon consumed by a blinding white static, completely blank, with no further recordings.

"Move quickly! Snow Shadow!?"

"What happened to them?!"
