Chereads / THE UNKNOWN SAVIOUR / Chapter 10 - THE SHADOWS OF THE PAST

Chapter 10 - THE SHADOWS OF THE PAST

CHAMBER OF POWER

Silence reigned in the opulent chamber, broken only by the rhythmic ticking of an antique clock. King John, his face etched with a mixture of apprehension and determination, sat on the edge of the bed, his mind reeling from the events of the previous day. The CSO and his deputy, their faces pale and drawn, still bore the marks of their unexpected transformation.

Master Shakhter, his eyes twinkling with an unsettling amusement, observed the scene.

JOHN

Markus, tell me wife and children to prepare to leave tomorrow as well as her handmaiden. They will be going to my friend's kingdom

MARKUS

Yes your majesty

JOHN

You should also prepare the training ground and start training, I will join you soon.

MARKUS

Noted your majesty

The CSO bows and exits the chamber. John remains alone, his mind racing. He thinks of Master Shakhter's words, his chilling encounter with the "shadowy figures" in the Forbidden Jungle. He thinks of the ancient magic, the power that surged through him during the transformation, the terrifying glimpses of his own potential.

Suddenly, a chilling thought strikes him. If he, with his newfound powers, was so overwhelmed by the initial surge of energy, how would he fare against a creature of such immense power? A creature born of darkness, a creature of legend.

Master Shakhter, his eyes twinkling with amusement, watches as King John paces restlessly.

SHAKHTER

(Smiling)

Troubled, Your Majesty?

JOHN

(Breaking the silence)

Master Shakhter, you were saying something earlier about what you saw in the jungle…

SHAKHTER

(A long pause)

Ah, yes.

He leaned forward, his eyes fixed on John, a grave expression settling on his weathered face.

SHAKHTER

(Voice low and chilling)

During my journey to the jungle in search of the band… I saw…

He paused, a chilling silence filling the chamber. John leaned forward, his breath catching in his throat.

SHAKHTER

(Continuing, his voice barely a whisper)

I saw… I saw Black Wolf.

John's eyes widened in disbelief.

JOHN

(Stuttering)

Black Wolf? In the jungle?

SHAKHTER

(Nodding gravely)

Yes. But that was not all.

JOHN

(Intrigued)

What else did you see?

SHAKHTER

(Stuttering)

 I also saw… I saw a… a dragon.

John felt a jolt of icy fear. A dragon?

JOHN

(Stuttering)

A… a dragon?

SHAKHTER

(Continuing)

A creature of pure fire and shadow. It was… terrifying.

JOHN

(Whispering)

But… but how? Dragons are… are mythical creatures.

SHAKHTER

(Shaking his head)

The world is full of wonders, Your Majesty. Some more terrifying than others.

SHAKHTER

(His voice dropping to a hushed tone)

I saw… I saw her.

JOHN

(Confused)

Her? Who is "her"?

SHAKHTER

(A chilling smile playing on his lips)

The Witch of the Wastes.

John felt a shiver crawl down his spine. The Witch of the Wastes… a legendary figure, whispered about in hushed tones by the elders. A creature of immense power, responsible for a cataclysmic event that had nearly destroyed the kingdom centuries ago.

JOHN

(Voice trembling)

The Witch… she is still alive?

SHAKHTER

(Nodding)

Yes. And she is with Black Wolf.

John's mind raced. The implications were staggering. If Black Wolf was allied with the Witch of the Wastes, their power would be virtually unstoppable.

(Continuing)

She is from a planet called W² which is the home to diversities of creatures. She the second head of the planet and the head who is the controller is half human and half wear witch and also a scientist who study all scientific intelligence on earth. He created the mini asteroid that caused the cataclysmic event 500 years ago.

JOHN

(Surprised)

Seriously?

SHAKHTER

(Continuing)

Talking about black wolf, she has trained, fortify and bewitched him. Black wolf is now a rugged wearwolf with dark powers but I don't think he will capable of defeating if you train harder like never before.

JOHN

(Determined)

I will train hard. We must prepare. We must be stronger than ever before.

SHAKHTER

(Nodding)

Indeed. Now, rest. You need your strength.

PALACE

The palace buzzed with a nervous energy. The news of Black Wolf's return and the impending war had sent shockwaves through the kingdom.

TRAINING GROUNDS

The training grounds were a hive of activity. Men and women, young and old, underwent rigorous training, their faces grim with determination. John, under the watchful eye of Markus and a team of experienced warriors, pushed himself to his limits. He practiced his swordsmanship, his archery, his hand-to-hand combat. But he also spent hours honing his newfound abilities, learning to control the surge of power within him, to transform into the panther, to move with the grace and agility of a predator.

CHAMBER OF POWER

John, his body slick with sweat, practiced his transformation. He focused his mind, channeling the energy of the band, visualizing the swift, graceful movements of a wolf. His body began to change, his muscles tightening, his senses sharpening. He felt the rough texture of fur beneath his skin, the sharp points of claws emerging from his fingertips.

He moved with a newfound grace, a predatory elegance. He leaped, landing silently on a pile of furs. He snarled, a low, guttural sound that echoed through the chamber.

SHAKHTER

(Observing him with a knowing smile)

You are improving, young King.

JOHN

(Turning to face the ancient mage)

I must be faster, stronger. I must be ready for anything.

SHAKHTER

(Nodding)

There is much to learn. Much to master.

JOHN

(His eyes fixed on the shimmering band on his wrist)

What about the Witch? How do we defeat her?

SHAKHTER

(His expression grave)

The Witch… she is a creature of ancient magic, a force of nature. Defeating her will not be easy.

JOHN

(Determined)

We will find a way. We will protect our kingdom.

SHAKHTER

(Smiling)

I have no doubt.

PALACE CORRIDOR

Prince DON, the King's son, a mischievous boy of ten, crept along the corridor, his ears pressed against the door of the King's chamber. He had overheard his father's conversation with Master Shakhter, and his curiosity had been piqued.

He strained to hear, but the door was thick, and the voices inside were hushed. He pressed his ear closer to the wood, his heart pounding.

Suddenly, the door swung open, revealing King John and Master Shakhter emerging from the chamber. Don quickly ducked behind a tapestry, his heart pounding.

JOHN

(To Master Shakhter)

Thank you, Master Shakhter. Your wisdom is invaluable.

SHAKHTER

(Smiling)

May the ancient magic guide you, Your Majesty.

Master Shakhter bowed and disappeared down the corridor. John, his face grave, walked towards his chambers.

Don, his curiosity piqued, waited until his father was out of sight. Then, he crept towards the chamber, his heart pounding.

SECRET PASSAGE

John, disguised as a shadow, moved silently through the secret passageways beneath the palace with some skilled warriors . He was on a mission, a mission of utmost importance. Following Master Shakhter's instructions, he was seeking out the ancient guardians of the forest, beings of immense power who could aid him in his quest.

The passage was dark and damp, the air thick with the scent of dust and decay. John moved with the grace of a panther, his senses heightened, his every move calculated. He reached a dead end, a wall of solid rock blocking his path.

He pressed his hand against the wall, searching for a hidden mechanism. Suddenly, a section of the wall slid

open, revealing a narrow, dimly lit tunnel.

John hesitated, his heart pounding. He took a deep breath, then stepped into the darkness.
