Chereads / AWAKENING WITH AN X-RANK ATTRIBUTE EXTRACTION TALENT / Chapter 8 - A Dame in Shining Armour?

Chapter 8 - A Dame in Shining Armour?

The situation on the sixth floor, was NOT looking good. As a black haired kid was about to get jumped on by three burly kids!

Resisting the feeling of his knees buckling, Ray immediately removed Chad's hands from his shoulder- taking the red haired by surprise as a swift uppercut to the jaw, followed the previous action.

Although not enough to knock Chad off his feet like Ray had been hoping to, his sudden moves, stunned the trio.

They gazed at him; stupified.

Ray, normally a kid of few words, had managed to not only knock someone twice his size, but he did it effortlessly.

Forget his actions!

Where did he get his balls from?

They wondered

Although, that was what Ray wanted them to think.

'Shit!'

'what is this guy's jaw made of? steel?'. Ray questioned.

If this is how strong Chad's jaw is to the current him, who had his stats upgraded not even two hours ago, then, - Ray shuddered thinking he could be visiting the infirm again; but this time, because of a broken hand!

Wait! No wonder he broke his leg when hitting that rock from earlier.

*Clap* *Clap* *Clap*

"Good.....good...very good" Chad said- his voice dripping with amusement.

"It seemed the scrawny chimp had grown a pair, no?" He added.

It seemed the little hit Ray gave him did nothing but stun him; his face not even showing signs of taking a full powered punch to the jaw.

"Sam, Charles, grab him! Bring him to our room- it seems we have to educate our 'friend' don't you think so?" Chad continued - turning his focus to the bald head kid and the blonde.

Both responding sharply with heavy nods of affirmation- as if Chad's words were law and to be followed without question. Instantly following instructions they moved at once and with minimum effort, they tackled Ray to the floor.

With Charles pinning him to the ground with his hands and with Sam grabbing his legs, they were ready to 'transport' Ray.

"Help!!" Ray screamedh he had observed his situation and deemed himself finished if he passed through those very doors.

Ain't no way he was getting a round two of torture session in one fucking day!

So, he screamed!

"Shut the fuck up, fucker!" Chad shouted; sending a strong kick to Ray's mid section.

Ray could have sworn that he heard some cracks coming from his ribs, and couldn't help but wonder what would have happened if he hadn't triggered an attribute extraction from earlier.

"Ugghh" Ray coughed up some blood. He had seriously hoped that someone would have woken up from all the noise he and these pyscho trio had created.

It seemed lady luck, had enough of toying with him today- having set Ray up in the most stupid of situations in just one day!

The door opposite Chad's room opened. Revealing the figure of a dark skinned girl- matched perfectly with her dark hair. Her hands rubbed her eyes - a clear indication that she was still sleepy.

"What the hell is going on here". She spoke her voice sounded, cutting through the tension. Her hands dropped down, to reveal a pair of brown eyes, which stared at the trio with confusion, then at Ray.

Her expression immediately shifting to pure rage!

"The fuck are you doing this late in the night, Chad!"

"Mind your damn business Charlotte".

Chad immediately clap backed. The displeasure in his tone obvious as Charlotte had interrupted him in his activities.

"It becomes my business, when you disturb my fucking sleep!" Charlotte retorted.

Kissing his teeth, Chad signalled to Sam and Charles, who promptly drooped Ray on the ground- albeit hardly.

"You got lucky this time...shithead" Sam said slapping Ray's face in a not so friendly manner.

The trio retreated into their room, not before giving Ray a few 'soft' kicks for good measure.

"Tha...thank you " Ray managed to say turning towards his saviour - his eyes, glistening with ubshed tears- he had been holding in all this while.

However, his saviour, had a cold look on her face; seemingly more irritated than reciprocating Ray's appreciation. She didn't even look twice at him before saying - "Next time stop whining like a baby, and disturbing my sleep you wimp!"

*BANG*

And with that she shut the door.

Ray was stunned!

Couldn't you even say 'you're welcome' at least? He couldn't help but wonder.

Dragging himself, he made his way to his room- the doors creaking open as he tried to minimise his movements as much as possible.

A soft blue light from the big lightbulb in the middle of his room, illuminated his abode - he colour- providing a subtle warmth, calming his mind; albeit barely. The room was moderated looking- nothing worth noticing except the three beds arranged side by side, with a bed side table on each side.

The floors- again, creaking with his weight.

The old wooden floor was more cinnamon and paler in the regions that have had more wear. The eyes of the wood were as dark as the grooves between the planks, grooves varying as much in thickness as the gaps between Ray's teeth.

To his far right, was another small room; well, that was the bathroom. And yes, one bathroom shared by three people.

Such was the condition of the orphange- and there was nothing to be said or done about it.

Under the glow of light, he could make out two figures on the beds- their forms and breathing patterns suggesting they were asleep. In a bid not to awaken them, Ray pulled his shoes- tiptoeing to his bed in the far corner.

He had almost made it through though,- until a sharp creak of the wood gave away the fact there was someone else in the room.

'please don't wake up...please don't wake up ' Ray thought - snapping his head to look at the two figures; who, other than adjusting their sleeping position a bit- to make it more comfortable, they did nothing more; no reaction whatsoever.

'It seems the twins are still as dead as ever' Ray thought. A sigh of relief escaping his lips as he figured he hadn't been found out. The last thing he wanted to happen right now, was to be interrogated by his roommates; today had been too draining for that anyways- Ray figured.

Removing his clothes- or what ever was left of it, and throwing them away in the laundary basket, Ray immediately hopped into the shower.

The icy water hammered against his skin, a jarring counterpoint to the pounding in his temples. Each frigid drop was a tiny fist, softly pounding his body in areas where he had been tortured. The blood, thick and clinging, was finally yielding, washing down his chest and stomach.

He scrubbed furiously, the soap a much appreciated ally more than Ray had ever given credit for.

The cool water, however, was his true weapon, numbing the aches in his muscles, and the lingering tremor in his hands. It was a baptism it seemed; the water cleansing him not just of the physical dirt, but of the fear, the trauma and the pain of his own weakness.

Drying himself, and grabbing a change of clothes, Ray lay on the beds- the old and wrinkly be cover resurfacing the pain in his muscles - but it would do for now.

Now let's see what this all is about. Ray thought.

'staus'

It seemed his health points had dopped- the decrease with about 10HP, was a dead giveaway to the banter he had with the trio earlier.

'Huh, it seems I have mana now. And what the hell is with my stamina and defence! Both are barely passable! With one even below 5!'.

Ray was visibly irritated by his stats! How could he be this weak! It was no wonder why he broke his leg, when he tried to kick a rock earlier.

'Forget it! what's done is done!...what I need is a gameplan right now. In a week's time the Double AA'S would send an agent here to pick me and others that are eighteen and we would be trained according to our fields- either as a gifted, a miner or a porter....judging by my build, I won't survive being a miner- although I could get a porters role- basically becoming a human wagon.' Ray muttered to himself;

'But with some luck, maybe I could perform extractions on monsters, and slowly increase my stats; yes! yes! that is the way! And with the increase in stats, It would become much easier to do stuff even as a porter! Heck I could even become a miner! At that point, my strength would sky rocket!'. Ray thought his eyes gleaming in satisfaction at his well thought out plan.

'A good plan it seems, but we need to survive tomorrow first to even see next week! I'm sure that dickhead Chad won't let me off so easy...for now let's get some sleep' Ray thought.

Ray's eyelids, heavy as lead, finally began to droop. The day's worries, like persistent buzzing flies, slowly retreated into the dim corners of her mind. Each breath grew deeper, the rhythmic rise and fall of his chest a visage of calmness.

The last vestiges of consciousness slipped away as his thoughts dissolved into a hazy swirl of images, the day's troubles fading into the quiet oblivion of sleep.
