Her eyes widened as she quickly checked the date on her phone. Seeing that it was really their anniversary, she laughed awkwardly into the phone. "I… might have forgotten. I'm so sorry, Evelyn."
Evelyn's warm laugh came through, brushing aside her apology. "It's fine, Addie. You've had a lot going on lately, so I get it. But hey, how about we meet at our favorite café? I've got a little present for you."
As Adeline listened, her ears picked up the sound of the door to her room creaking open, and she turned her head just enough to see Enzo entering the room.
He closed the door behind him, casting a quick glance her way. As he walked past her, he reached out and lightly patted her head. "Hey, cupcake."
Adeline, still on the call, ignored him, too focused on what Evelyn was saying. Enzo made his way over to the couch, picking up a stack of company files and settling down to skim through them while Adeline finished her call.
