"Lu, Lu?"
Luna was disturbed by Twilight Star's call and unhappily withdrew her gaze from the scroll in front of her. After settling down and clearing spell structures, circuits, and the like out of his mind, he realized that he was in a tent rather than a lab, and that in front of him was the table that his backpack had temporarily acted as rather than the huge mahogany table of the lab. He sighed and put away the scroll of Spiderweb Magic. Although she had access to the second ring of magic webs, Luna had yet to parse any of the second ring spells, so she couldn't even talk about casting them.
"Hey Twilight Star, what's up?"
Luna stepped out of the tent and stretched tiredly, crunching sounds resounding all over her body.
"It's like skeleton soldiers." Twilight Star spat, then pointed to the road in the morning light and asked, "You were up all night again? The Coastal Avenue is up ahead, and I need to cross the grassland in front of me to go deeper into the Cloak Forest. How are you going to get there? Back to Baldur's Gate or to the Friendly Arms Inn?"
"Split up here? No, no, no, I think I still have a lot to learn. What are you going to do? I'll keep you company."
Hearing that he wasn't leaving, Twilight Star, who felt her cheeks burning a little, turned her face to the side so he wouldn't see it. "I'm going to White Reed's house to check out what destroyed their home, and those who disrupt the balance will be punished."
"White Ryder? Who?" Luna asked subconsciously, and then faced straight into Twilight Star's blue eyes that sprayed anger! "Woah ooh, I remember! Just remembered! Those four wolfhound puppies are the White Riders, see, I'm remembering."
"Only the male one with the white hair on his forehead is White Reed! The other three are his wives! You murdered the White Reed family, take that to heart!" Twilight Star complained loudly about Luna, in the process banging his backpack with the touch of her scabbard like she was taking offense.
"Three wives! Ahem~" Luna's tone-deaf words at the back were pressed back by Twilight Star's stern look, and she changed her words to, "Say, should we go ... and collect their bones? It's not good to expose the corpses to the wilderness like ... this, right? We go to the Cloak Forest this time, by the way, let their bones that ... leaves return to their roots?" Using human words to describe animals is really too awkward.
Twilight Star somewhat mournfully fiddled with the dewy blades of grass, and finally shook her head. "Dust returns to dust, earth returns to earth, the cycle of nature is like that. So, let it be. May White Reed and his wives meet in Elona's garden."
With that, Luna deeply regretted that last joke, and the two carried their packs across the Coastal Path and through the orchid-filled meadows. All through the afternoon break, Twilight Star was silent with no desire to speak. As usual, the two set up their tent and raised a campfire. They always walked like this in the morning and spent the afternoon in various training sessions. In the evening, Luna studied spells while Alona "chatted" with her goddess.
When Luna took the pot out of her pouch, she saw Twilight Star casting a 'repair spell' on the damaged fur trim of the tent.Luna could clearly feel the magic pooling, and then the damaged part of the tent became new again.
"Kurenai, I've always wondered about that. There are repair spells in the Divine Arts, aren't there? Why do you still need to learn these zero-ring magics? You're a priest, wouldn't it be more convenient to use divine magic?"
"Why bother God when you can do it yourself?" Twilight Star opened her blue eyes wide and looked at him in surprise.
"This ..." Luna hadn't really thought about such a problem, because magic power didn't belong to anyone, so magicians squandered it with only a heartache for their own spell bits, and never had an indifferent attitude towards the magic power they consumed. But divine spells were different, divine spells were bestowed by the gods, and it was the power of the gods that was consumed when they were cast, so what kind of consequences would be incurred by casting random spells, Luna didn't know. Besides, when Luna played the game, priests always had full spells, starting with "Summon Holy Power", then "Armor of Faith", and then charging with a sledgehammer, priests were used as brutes, so they would not think about it so much.
"In our church, whether it's for living or protecting the forest, everyone treasures the divine spells given by Lady Elona. Only when it is beyond the reach of manpower will we turn to the Lady for help. Many people in the church resent mages and consider it an evil profession. It's because mages misuse the power of magic to distort reality and wreak havoc on nature, harming its balance. Lu, while I can be open to the differences between us and not try to impose my ideas on you. However, I still advise you to use the power of arcane magic solemnly and not to let it confuse your mind."
"I'm sorry, Twilight Star. I find that I seem to have never tried to understand Lady Elona's church. Can you tell me about it?" Luna put down what he was holding and stopped thinking about making a complicated lunch. He filled the bread with salad dressing and sliced meat, wrapping it in thick leaves of lettuce. He heated up the four neatly arranged "burgers" in a basin of water, and then looked squarely at Twilight Star, waiting for her to explain further.
Twilight Star was obviously attracted to the sandwiches made of crisp leaves and sliced meat, and watched with bated breath as they were set on the fire, before turning around and saying in a serious manner, "As a follower of the God of Knowledge, your religious knowledge is really poor. Lady Elona's camp is Neutral Goodness, she is in charge of the 'Animal', 'Plant', 'Goodness' and 'Solar ' domains, and favors all kind-hearted dwellers who live in, love, or depend on the forest for their livelihood, and all races have her followers, with elves and half-elves being the most numerous. The symbol of our church is a leaping unicorn, and any evil creature and destruction of the forest is our enemy. As priests of Elona, we rarely use magical items and metalwork, or even most military weapons. Of course, as the lady's preferred weapons, the longbow and the longsword, we will be honored to be trained accordingly and used in combat."
"Can't we use other metal weapons besides the longsword? What about armor?" Luna asked with some disappointment. His best skill was forging, and he had wanted to give Twilight Star a beautiful set of chainmail cedar when they parted, to repay her for all the time she had spent teaching her with such dedication.
Twilight Star smiled and shook her head, reaching out and turning the water basin a bit to heat it up a bit more evenly, the tantalizing aroma emanating out. "Other than longswords, which sometimes we wrap iron around the two sections of our walking sticks, and the heads of our spears, other things are rare. Armor we still prefer leather armor made of leather."
"And, leather armor." Luna bristled in disdain, it wasn't that he couldn't make leather armor well. Rather, it was because this world's leather armor making technology was very mature, and had formed a complete series of several major series. Where to use hard materials, where to affect the flexibility, are analyzed clearly, to the extreme, there is no improvement. In the end is everything depends on the material, magic leather is better than ordinary leather production, dragon skin is of course the best, but you dare to go to slay dragons? Forget it, it's better to find a way to forge two good swords for Twilight Star, but where to find good materials started to give Luna a headache again. The piece of black steel he had saved in his hand was only enough to create one long sword.
A white wolf, balking at the woods leaned over and, fearful of the burning campfire, whimpered and whimpered at this side from a distance. "Look out," Luna said, picking up her spell book, a spell instantly taking shape in her mind.
"Don't move, Yuki is very timid." Twilight Star pressed Luna who was about to get up, then turned to the white wolf and spoke a language that Luna couldn't understand. The white wolf called Little Snow alertly circled halfway around, allowing Twilight Star to shield both the campfire and Luna's gaze, before scattering into Twilight Star's arms. When she got close, Luna realized that this "timid" white wolf was as tall as her chest, a man's length, and was actually a winter wolf that could only be seen in cold places! This kind of ferocious magical beast should not be called "Snowy", okay?
Snowy and Twilight Star pounced on each other, Twilight Star affectionately scratched her furry ears, while Snowy stomped on Twilight Star's cloak with her clawed paws, leaving plum blossom-like footprints. "Yuki is so annoying," Twilightstar fluttered her cloak and took out jerky from her package to feed Yuki.
"Woo~woo~", Yuki ignored the jerky that was handed to her mouth, and turned her head towards the burger box that was hanging on the campfire, emitting a tantalizing aroma, whimpering lowly with a pouty flavor.
"That, that's not allowed. That's the strange food of the evil wizard over there, eating it will have bad consequences, let's just eat jerky." Twilight Star nervously gestured at the jerky in her hand in an attempt to lure Yuki's attention back, and went out of her way to tell lies in order to save her lunch.
"Is it okay for Elona's servants to lie?" Luna teased from the sidelines.
"This, this is a lie out of goodwill! Yes, it was out of kindness." Kurenai argued with a peachy face while wrenching Yuki's big head. Seeing that Luna was going to continue flirting, she immediately added viciously, "If you keep nagging, you'll give up your lunch to Yuki!"
"Oh?" Luna and Yuki made a strange sound at the same time, then also looked at each other.Luna made a determined look to protect her lunch, and Yuki bared her mouth, revealing four big canine teeth longer than daggers, hissing and puffing her breath to make a threatening look, making Kurenai laugh and wrench her big head back again. I'll go! Who's ever seen such a smart Wraith.Luna flipped over the coffee table.
In the end, Luna made four more "burgers" and distributed them in such a way that there were four for Snow, three for Twilight Star and only one for Luna. The snow wolf was no longer afraid of the flames, and lay down very close to the bonfire, letting it roast his belly and stretching his limbs to sleep. Twilight Star, who had met her friend, wasn't urging Luna to practice her swordplay. She curled into Snowy's belly fur and slept with the snow wolf on her pillow.
Luna looked at her with envy for a long time, but she didn't dare to come over to her, he wasn't sure if Yuki was really full, maybe she wanted to eat a magician's dessert.
Luna took out the scroll of "Spiderweb Magic" and began to analyze it. As the sun slowly moved westward, the nerd wizard finally finished his parsing, and Luna happily took out her inking pen and dragon's blood ink to transcribe the spell into her spellbook. By now, half the number of spells in the book had been resolved. As he looked out into the sunset, it was as if he saw several large birds flying across the sky, unable to distinguish the species due to the strong backlighting, but with a wingspan of at least 20 feet long.
"Are there birds that big in the Cloak Forest?"
Luna wondered to herself. When she tried to look again, she couldn't find the trail.
