Synopsis
Amy, a typical New Yorker, has a life like a tightly - wound clock because of her busy job at the United Nations - precise yet exhausting. She is a person who is rational to the core. Superstitions about ghosts and gods, in her opinion, are like fairy tales for coaxing children, and sweet - talking is like cheap perfume, pungent and hypocritical. On that day, the heavy pressure of work made Amy feel breathless. She returned to her apartment where she lived alone, like a robot with its battery drained. Her only thought was to throw herself onto the bed and isolate herself from the whole world with the quilt. However, midnight, like a mysterious incantation, disrupted her plan. The old radio in the room cabinet made a strange beeping sound, and then a faint cry for help came: "Help... " Amy's heart suddenly tightened. Despite the mixture of fatigue and fear within her, her curiosity still made her ask the radio, "Who are you?" "I'm Tom. I'm being chased by a serial killer. I'm hiding in an abandoned warehouse. He'll find me soon... " The boy's voice was full of fear. Without the slightest hesitation, Amy immediately called the police. A rescue across time, of love and redemption, thus began.

Chapter 1 - chapter1:Strange Cry for Help in Exhaustion

Amy, a busy woman in the bustling city of New York, found her job at the United Nations like an overwhelming burden on her shoulders. Her life was like a machine programmed to repeat a dull and monotonous rhythm every day. The endless exhaustion clung to her like a thick fog in the dark night, never to be shaken off.

On this day, the work pressure reached its peak. Amy dragged her lead - like legs back to her solitary apartment. All she wanted was to fling herself onto the bed and cut herself off from the outside world completely. However, the tranquility of midnight was shattered. The old radio in the room suddenly emitted a strange beeping sound, and then a faint cry for help came: "Help... "

Amy's heart skipped a beat, and fear instantly spread throughout her body. But her curiosity managed to overcome her exhaustion, and she asked in a trembling voice, "Who are you?"

"I'm Tom. I'm being chased by a serial killer. I'm hiding in an abandoned warehouse. He'll find me soon... " The fear in the voice made Amy feel as if death was approaching.

Without hesitation, Amy rushed to the phone. When she dialed the police, her voice was also trembling: "Sir, there is a boy named Tom. He is being chased by a serial killer and is hiding in an abandoned warehouse. You must save him!"

The police dialed Tom's number according to the caller ID provided by Amy, but only a cold "number not in service" tone came from the receiver. However, Amy didn't give up. She contacted the FBI.

In the FBI's investigation room, Amy sat on a shabby chair, facing the serious - faced Agent Smith. Smith frowned and asked, "Ms. Amy, are you sure that what you heard really happened? It's so bizarre."

Amy replied firmly, "Agent, I'm very sure. I know it's hard to believe, but I'm not lying."

After in - depth investigation, the FBI discovered that Tom was actually a student at New York University who had mysteriously disappeared 20 years ago. This news caused an uproar in the police station.

The police followed Amy's clues and came to a villa in the suburbs. The villa was overgrown with weeds all around, giving off a spooky vibe. The police began to dig in the garden, which frightened the old couple living there.

The old lady asked nervously, "Sir, what's going on? Why are you digging in our garden?"

Sheriff Johnson explained gently, "Madam, we are investigating a case. We suspect that the garden may be related to the case. Please cooperate."

Soon, the police dug out a skeleton. The old lady fainted in fright. After identification, the DNA of this skeleton matched Tom's by 99%.

The old couple trembled and said they didn't know what was going on. They bought the house 20 years ago from an apparently normal agent at a low price.

...

Back at home, Amy sat on the sofa, trying hard to think about the details of the case. At night, the phone rang suddenly.

Amy picked up the phone and heard, "Hello, is it the police? I suspect that the recent legless murder case is related to a drug case... Come quickly... This place..."

Amy quickly asked, "Hello, are you Tom?"

Tom on the phone said vaguely, "Who are you? Sorry, I think I dialed the wrong number..."

Amy said eagerly, "Tom, it's Amy. The Amy you called for help before. What's going on with the cases you just mentioned?"

Tom became a bit more sober and said, "Amy? I don't quite understand what you're talking about. I have to hang up."

Amy anxiously tried to stop him, but Tom still hung up. Tom walked while being puzzled and didn't notice a dark figure following him.

Amy held the receiver, and the doubts in her heart grew bigger and bigger. She couldn't figure out how Tom could call when his skeleton had been dug out.

...

After hanging up the phone, Tom, the trainee police officer, walked on the silent street. He always felt that there were eyes staring at him from behind, but every time he turned around, he saw nothing. A sense of uneasiness welled up in him, and he quickened his pace towards the police station because he had discovered important clues.

Amy also put on her coat and went out to look for Tom. She had a premonition that Tom was in danger.

When Tom passed an abandoned factory, he heard strange noises coming from inside. Driven by his curiosity, he walked into the factory. As soon as he entered, he heard, "That boy has discovered our secret. He must not be allowed to leave alive." "But he has already called the police. We have to deal with him quickly."

Tom broke out in a cold sweat and hid behind a large machine, vigilantly observing his surroundings.

Amy came to the police station and found Agent Smith.

Agent Smith asked curiously, "Ms. Amy, it's so late. What are you doing here?"

Amy said eagerly, "Agent, I think Tom's death may be related to a drug case twenty years ago. All these things are so strange."

After thinking for a while, Smith was convinced by Amy and began to investigate the drug case twenty years ago.

After a difficult investigation, they found a criminal. In the interrogation room, the criminal confessed that he had almost assaulted a girl, and this girl turned out to be Tom's sister.

When this news was announced, Tom's sister appeared at the police station. A flash of panic flickered in her eyes, but she quickly calmed down.

She pretended to be calm and said, "What does this have to do with my brother? My brother has been dead for so many years." Her voice trembled slightly.

Agent Smith looked at her and said, "Are you really sure? It's all too coincidental. Your brother's disappearance and what's happening now are all related to the drug case."

Tom's sister bit her lip and said, "I don't know anything. All I know is that my brother disappeared suddenly, and I've been in pain." But her fingers unconsciously twisted the corner of her clothes, as if she was hiding something.

...

At night, Amy was alone at home. Under the dim light in the room, she stared intently at the radio, full of worry.

When the clock struck twelve midnight, the radio rang. Amy heard not Tom's voice, but a hoarse voice, mixed with Tom's weak resistance: "Why you? Why?"

Amy shouted in horror, "Tom!!!!"

Then a dull sound of a heavy object hitting something came. Amy anxiously shouted, "Tom, please, you must survive!"

The injured Tom heard Amy's call. Enduring great pain, he crawled towards the window. Every movement was excruciating, but he had only one belief in his heart: to survive.

Finally, he climbed to the window and jumped. But the murderer still chased after him relentlessly.

Amy heard the beeping sound of the busy line. Her hand tightly gripped the receiver, and she despaired and sank into dark thoughts. She couldn't understand how Tom, who was supposed to be dead, could still send a voice through the radio.
