THE ADVENTURES OF PETER AND PAUL
CHAPTER 01
HOLIDAY GONE WRONG
In the early hours of Monday morning, the cock crowed, the birds of the air chirped, and the sun began to rise eastward with beautiful orange rays of light all over the city of Starnet. The twins lay on a soft mattress, snoring the new day off.
Their father burst into the twins' room. "Hey, you boys! Get on your feet! A new day is dawning!" said Mr. Jamie, their father.
The twins snuggled on the bed. Then Paul got on his feet, yawning like he hadn't slept in the last two years.
"Time for school, huh?"
"Have you forgotten? You're on holidays," Mr. Jamie replied.
"Then what are we waking up to do?" Peter asked.
"You're going to accompany me to work. It's time you boys begin to learn new things at your age," Mr. Jamie said.
The boys began to grumble.
"But Dad, we have better things to do than spend a boring day at your workplace!" Peter protested.
"On one condition, Dad: you'll let me take my video game along," Paul added.
"Yeah, whatever," said Mr. Jamie, sounding excited.
But Peter disliked the idea.
Their father left the room.
"Hey, idiot!" shouted Peter.
"Don't you know I had already scheduled a date with Sandra in the afternoon?"
"Yeah, whatever," Paul replied.
Peter grinned with anger and left the room.
LATER....
"Come on, sonny, get into the car," Mr. Jamie urged.
Peter tried his best to confuse his father about going to work with him, but it was of no use.
While driving, Mr. Jamie spoke to his sons.
"You see, son, there is a time for everything. School time is over; now it's time to learn business. It will help you."
Peter grinned, then Paul whispered to him, "You know how disappointed Dad will be when he finds out that you have a girlfriend."
"Hey, you better mind your own business," Peter snapped angrily.
"Okay, okay, sorry!!" Paul said.
The car zoomed off while Paul continued playing his video game.
Later, they arrived at the venue.
Paul walked in majestically and told everyone in the building, "Hey everyone! Get to work! My father owns this place, so get to work!"
"What are you doing?!" yelled Mr. Jamie.
"I work here for someone!"
"I said get to work!!!" Paul yelled back.
A young man walked up to him, who was Mr. Jamie's boss, saying, "Who is this fellow?"
"Sorry, sir, he's one of my twin sons," Mr. Jamie explained.
"Hey, Dad, you can't be calling this man 'sir'!" Paul exclaimed.
"What has gotten into you? Don't you know he's my boss?" Mr. Jamie replied.
"Sir, Mr. Jamie, see me in my office," the boss said.
Mr. Jamie, knowing what was at stake with that statement, followed him.
The young man, however, was Mr. Jamie's boss—a young millionaire.
Later in the man's office, Mr. Jamie sat face to face with his boss, who spoke to him roughly.
"This is an office, Mr. Jamie; you can't just turn it into a zoo without my permission!" yelled Mr. Jamie's boss.
"No, sir, I was not going to turn it into a zoo. I just..." Mr. Jamie began, but was cut off by the boss.
"Of course, you were going to turn it into a zoo, which you already did by inviting your twin animals over!" the boss replied.
"Animals?" Mr. Jamie replied in shock.
"Yes! In fact, you know what? You're fired! Leave my office!!" shouted the boss.
Near the door, Peter and Paul were listening to their conversation.
After hearing "You're fired," Peter jumped for joy while Paul looked sad.
"Thank goodness! I can have my date after all! Yes!" Peter exclaimed.
"Isn't that stupid of you? Our father just got sacked, and you're happy?" Paul said.
"Why not? At least Mom still has a job," Peter replied.
At that moment, Mr. Jamie's face was downcast as he came out of the office.
"Boys, we're going home," Mr. Jamie announced.
At home, after receiving a terrible shout from his father, Paul went to his room in tears, while Peter zoomed off to Sandra's house to break the news to her.
"Sandra, guess what!!" Peter exclaimed.
"What?" Sandra asked.
"My father has just been sacked," Peter explained.
"And you're happy about it?" Sandra replied, confused.
"Don't you know what that means? We can be together all day!! Woo-hoo!" Peter exclaimed.
The next place Peter found himself was outside Sandra's house, covered in stars all over his head. She had kicked him out of her house, thinking he was high on cheap drugs.
When Peter got home, he found Paul and his dad with fishing poles, dressed in fishermen's coats.
"What's going on?" Peter asked.
Immediately, Mr. Jamie handed him a fishing pole, squeezing his body into a fisherman's coat, saying, "Sonny, we're going fishing. Since we can't learn how to do business, we'll learn how to fish! Come on!"
He pushed both of them out the door, and Bruno tagged along behind them, holding a rubber bone in his mouth.
They passed through a pathway between the bushes until they reached the lake.
"So... what do we do now?" Paul asked.
"I think the next thing to do is to turn back and head home," Peter exclaimed.
"Oh no, sons. Now, lift up your fishing poles," Mr. Jamie instructed.
They both lifted their poles, and then Mr. Jamie threw his pole into the lake. The boys also did the same while Bruno sat far from the lake, watching them. He hated water.
They had been sitting there for over thirty minutes when suddenly Paul's pole shook.
"I think I've caught something!" shouted Paul.
"Hold on. Now, begin to turn that wheel at the other side of the pole," Mr. Jamie said.
Paul did otherwise, and the next thing they could hear was a big splash! There goes Paul into the river. His pole had gotten hold of maybe a giant fish. And then it pulled the pole, with Paul holding it, and then Paul landed in the lake.
"Help! Help!" shouted Paul.
"Hold on, son. I am coming to get you," exclaimed Mr. Jamie.
Peter did not even move. He just sat there watching the chaos.
Paul's father swam to get his son, but his son was moving further to the waterfall. Paul screamed and screamed, while Jamie tried to swim further to get him. Bruno barked at the other end. He was close to the lake; this time Peter did not even bother about his brother.
"Goodbye, Paul. We will meet in heaven. He was a good boy, wasn't he, Bruno?" said Peter.
Bruno kept on barking while Peter played video games on his PlayStation Portable.
"Finally, I can now enjoy my life in peace!" Peter said in relief.
Meanwhile, Jamie got closer to his son.
"Dad, please do something! I don't wanna die!" Paul cried.
Paul began to cry in yawning tears. He began to pray to God to forgive all his sins.
"Please forgive me! I don't wanna go to hell!" Paul cried out in fear, and then suddenly, he just stopped crying.
When he turned back, he saw Bruno at the other side, holding a tiny log of wood in its mouth. Paul then grabbed the wood, which stopped him from going down to the waterfall.
"Way to go, Bruno! You saved his life!" Mr. Jamie shouted in excitement.
Peter, after hearing 'Bruno,' was surprised because he thought Bruno was beside him, but Bruno had left him a while ago.
"What? His life was saved?" Peter asked.
A few minutes later, Paul reached the shore of the lake, thanking Bruno for saving his life.
Peter approached his brother.
"Bro, I want to ask you a question!" Peter said.
"Which is?" Paul replied.
"Why didn't you die?" Peter asked.
THE NEXT DAY....
Peter and Paul had been planning an interesting way to spend their holidays. They had been planning on going to the beach for surfing, visiting girls, playing football, video games, and more, but their parents had other plans which totally ruined everything.
"Sons, your father and I are planning on going camping," said Mrs. Lydia, the twins' mother.
"Oh, you guys can go; you don't need to seek our permission," Paul replied quickly.
"Do you know what that means? We all go as a family," Mrs. Lydia replied.
"Gross. Hell no! Paul and I have our own plans," Peter replied to their mother.
Immediately, their father entered the living room where they were.
"Well, I am afraid you have to suspend those plans for now. Family business first," Mr. Jamie said.
"Yes. Come on, boys, it's gonna be fun. There will be food, drinks, games, and so much more," Mrs. Lydia said.
"Woof! Woof!" Bruno barked in excitement.
"You see, Bruno is excited already; we move tomorrow," Mr. Jamie added.
"Wait, where exactly is this camping spot?" Paul asked.
"We've chosen a perfect spot in the woods, downtown in the country harbor," Mr. Jamie replied.
"In the woods?" Peter exclaimed in shock.
"Is it bad?" Mrs. Lydia asked.
"So you're gonna be under a useless tent, with creepy creatures all over, alone?!" Peter asked.
"Spiders, mosquitoes, insects—Gah!!!" Paul continued.
"Don't be afraid. I am there for you. Even if tigers attack, you have a capable dad!" Mr. Jamie said.
The twins both looked at their father. At a glance, looking at his skinny body, they were not sure if this man could kill a cockroach, let alone tigers and other dreadful creatures.
"Besides, Bruno will alert us if there is any danger," Mrs. Jamie said.
"I don't like this idea. It's horrible," Peter said.
"Me too," Paul added instantly.
"Well, you have no choice. We move tomorrow as early as five!" Mr. Jamie said.
"Five?!!!" the two boys exclaimed in shock.
"Yes, five! So make sure you sleep early tonight, and no video games today so you can sleep early. That's my verdict!!" said Mr. Jamie while leaving the room.
Mr. Jamie and Mrs. Lydia left the room, leaving Peter and Paul holding video game pads, looking at each other in disbelief and frustration.
Later in the day...
Jack, their neighborhood friend who attends the same school, comes knocking at their door. Peter opens it.
"What do you want?" Peter asked.
"Come on, dudes. Let's play football," said Jack.
"Not in the mood," Peter answered.
Peter slammed the door in his face.
"Okay, but my sister wants to talk to you," Jack said, smiling.
"What?" Peter said in surprise. He opened the door quickly.
"Where is she?" Peter asked, acting cool.
"She is not around now. She said you should meet her at home tomorrow," said Jack while leaving.
"I certainly will! You'll see me at your house tomorrow. Bye!" Peter said happily.
He slammed the door again and broke the news to Paul.
"You can't go to her house tomorrow, Pete," Paul said.
"Why would you say that?" Peter asked.
"We're going camping in the woods tomorrow with Mom and Dad, so it's not possible for you to go to her house, bro," replied Paul.
After hearing this, Peter burst into tears.
Suddenly, the doorbell rings. Peter wipes off his tears immediately and opens the door. It is Jack again.
"Sorry, I forgot to tell you, Pete. Starnet F.C. junior team is playing their first official match tomorrow, so Coach Philips said you'll be playing the central forward position for the match. Make sure you get there by 9 AM for training. The match starts at 3 PM," said Jack.
After hearing this, Peter bursts into tears again. Jack looks quizzical when Peter starts to cry, then Paul takes Peter inside, telling Jack, "You won't understand, Jack. Tell the coach to fetch another striker because this guy will be absent tomorrow."
"Oh, okay. That's why he is crying?" replied Jack.
"I think so," Paul said.
Later in the evening...
Peter and Paul refused to sleep. They are both just sad and angry that their plans have been ruined. Paul tries his best to console Peter.
"I overheard Dad and Mom saying the camping would last for three days. When we return, we will do all that we have planned," Paul says.
"Look, you see tomorrow's match? I will be there," said Peter.
"How? We will be at the camping spot tomorrow," Paul asked.
"Just watch and see how it will happen. I will be at the stadium tomorrow, you'll see," Peter answers.
However, Paul does not understand how Peter will escape the camping site for the stadium, but let's see if he does it or not.
Peter had called Jack to let him know he would come for the match.
Well, Paul later falls into a deep sleep, but Peter stays awake, thinking of a plan to escape the campsite without anyone noticing.
Young Paul slept at about 9, while Peter later slept at 1:32 AM.
Early. The next day, very early in the morning...
The awful alarm that was set by Jamie was enough to wake the twins by exactly 5 AM.
The alarm was blaring and very loud, almost knocking down Peter, who slept directly next to it.
The twins are already up.
The morning was hard, especially for Peter, who slept very late.
Peter falls asleep while brushing his teeth and almost slumps while bathing.
After both of them are done dressing up and waiting for their parents, Peter takes the opportunity to squeeze in some sleep as he falls on the couch.
Not up to three minutes later, Mom and Dad show up, with Bruno following them.
Paul wakes up Peter, who hasn't even gone far.
"Pete, they're here," Paul says to Peter, waking him up.
Peter wakes up and trails the rest of the family into the car with heavy eyes.
Immediately they enter the vehicle, Peter sleeps once again.
Halfway down the line, Peter wakes up and speaks:
"Has the match begun?" Peter asks.
"What match? Hmm, you arrived dreaming again, huh?" Mr. Jamie asked.
At this point, Peter opens his eyes to reality.
They are still on their way to the camping ground, and it is not yet 7 AM.
Everywhere is still slightly dark and misty because it is the winter season.
On the other hand, Paul plays his PlayStation Portable, while Bruno scrambles with his rubber bone.
Mr. Jamie drives the car, and Mrs. Lydia operates her phone.
Everywhere seems so boring to Peter, and then he falls asleep again.
The journey to the campsite lasts for an hour and thirty minutes.
Finally, they arrived approximately by 8.
And their adventure begins...
