Chapter 26 - Chapter 26

Chapter 26: The Weapon's Blueprint

The dimly lit war room was silent except for the hum of Lila's console and the soft shuffling of papers. Ethan and his team stood around a central table, their faces tense as they waited for Lila to finish decoding the data they had recovered during the raid. The weight of the mission was beginning to take its toll, and everyone knew the information they were about to uncover could determine the fate of their battle against the rogue faction.

Lila's fingers danced over the keyboard, her eyes glued to the screen. "Almost there," she murmured, her voice tight with concentration. A progress bar blinked at 98%, crawling toward completion.

Ethan leaned forward, his hands gripping the edge of the table. "What do we know so far?"

"Not much," Logan replied, leaning against the wall. He'd been quiet since the raid, his presence still a sore spot for some of the team. "Whatever they're planning, it's big. That facility was just a small part of the operation."

"Bigger than kidnapping civilians and turning them into weapons?" Darren said bitterly, his arm still in a sling from the injuries he'd sustained.

Logan met his gaze evenly. "Yes."

The room fell into uneasy silence until Lila let out a triumphant sound. "Got it!" She spun the laptop around, projecting the decoded files onto the wall. A blueprint of a massive facility appeared, its design intricate and intimidating.

"This," Lila began, her voice steady, "is Project Genesis."

---

The team stared at the projection in stunned silence. The blueprint depicted a sprawling factory complex, complete with advanced laboratories, manufacturing plants, and fortified defenses. At its heart was a massive energy core, pulsing with an ominous red light in the schematic.

"It's a super-soldier factory," Lila explained, her voice trembling slightly. "They're not just making soldiers—they're creating an assembly line to mass-produce them. And if these notes are accurate, they're planning to deploy globally within months."

Ethan's stomach churned. The idea of an army of rogue-enhanced soldiers spreading chaos across the world was almost too much to process.

"They'll destabilize everything," Darren said, his voice laced with anger. "Governments, militaries—no one will be able to stop them."

Lila nodded. "And there's more. The energy core powering Project Genesis isn't just advanced—it's familiar." She hesitated, her fingers hovering over the keyboard before pulling up a detailed diagram of the core.

Ethan's eyes widened. The technology was eerily similar to the interface of his system.

---

"You're saying…" Ethan began, his voice trailing off.

"I'm saying this core is derived from the same technology as your system," Lila said, her voice heavy with disbelief. "It's not a coincidence, Ethan. Whatever the rogue faction is doing, it's tied to you."

The revelation hit like a punch to the gut. Ethan felt the system hum faintly in the back of his mind, as if acknowledging the connection.

Logan stepped forward, his gaze sharp. "If that's true, then they'll stop at nothing to get their hands on you. You're the missing piece of their puzzle."

Darren slammed his good hand on the table. "This just keeps getting worse! How are we supposed to fight something like this? We barely made it out of that last mission alive."

"Enough," Ethan said, his voice cutting through the tension. He looked at each member of the team in turn. "We've faced impossible odds before, and we'll face them again. But we're not alone. The academy is with us. And now we know what we're up against."

---

As the team began discussing strategies, Ethan pulled Logan aside. The two stood in the corner of the room, their conversation quiet but intense.

"I need you to step up," Ethan said, his tone firm.

Logan raised an eyebrow. "I thought I already was."

"You're strong, Logan. Stronger than most of us. But strength isn't enough—you have to lead by example. The others still don't trust you, and I can't blame them. But if you're serious about redemption, you need to prove it."

Logan frowned but nodded. "What do you want me to do?"

"I'm going to train you," Ethan said. "Your enhancements give you an edge, but you're not using them to their full potential. If you can master them, you'll be an asset to this team—and maybe they'll start to see you differently."

Logan hesitated for a moment, then extended his hand. "Alright, Cross. Let's do it."

---

The next few days were a blur of preparation and training. Ethan worked with Logan in the training hall, pushing him to the limits of his abilities.

"Focus," Ethan said, dodging a punch and countering with a swift kick that Logan barely blocked. "Your enhancements give you speed, but you're wasting energy with unnecessary movements. Be precise."

Logan gritted his teeth, sweat dripping down his face as he adjusted his stance. They went at it again, their movements a blur as they traded blows. Slowly but surely, Logan's attacks became sharper, his defenses tighter.

By the end of the session, Logan was exhausted but visibly improved. He leaned against the wall, breathing heavily. "You're not bad at this, Cross."

"Neither are you," Ethan said with a faint smile. "Just don't let it go to your head."

---

Meanwhile, Lila worked tirelessly to analyze the rest of the data. She barely slept, her focus laser-sharp as she pieced together the rogue faction's plans.

During a late-night session, Darren brought her a cup of coffee and sat beside her. "You're killing yourself over this," he said softly.

Lila glanced at him, her eyes tired but determined. "I have to. If we don't figure this out, everything we've fought for will be for nothing."

"You're not alone in this," Darren said. "We're a team, remember? Let us help."

Lila smiled faintly. "Thanks, Darren."

---

The chapter ended with a meeting in the war room, the team gathered around the table as Lila presented her findings.

"The academy has agreed to mobilize against Project Genesis," she said. "We're planning an all-out assault."

Ethan nodded, his expression grim but resolute. "Then we finish this. For the people they've hurt—for everyone they'll hurt if we don't stop them."

The team exchanged determined looks, the weight of the mission settling over them. The battle ahead would be their toughest yet, but they were ready to face it together.
