Chapter 10 - chapter 10: journey

( After three days)

As the sun dipped below the horizon, casting a warm glow through the kitchen window, i sat at the dinner table, pushing my peas around my plate. The aroma of roasted chicken filled the air, but my mind was elsewhere, lost in the rhythm of mother's voice.

"Ellis, I have some news," my mother said, her tone light but with an undercurrent of something more serious. She looked up from her plate, her eyes sparkling with a mix of excitement and apprehension. "We're going to move to Xyrus City, we will be living with my parents."

My fork clattered against my plate, the sound echoing in the sudden silence that enveloped the room. "Your parents?" I echoed, confusion knitting my brow. "I didn't know you had parents. I mean .… I thought you didn't have any family."

My mother's smile faltered for a moment, and she sighed, her gaze drifting to the window as if searching for the right words. "I know I've never mentioned them, but they're alive, Ellis , I just… I didn't think it was important. I wanted to protect you from the...….the ...…..the past , yes the past ."

"She's lying " , I thought , "do we have enemies " , my heart raced a whirlwind of emotions crashing over me . I had spent years believing she was alone in this world, the only child of a single mother who always seemed to carry the weight of the world on her shoulders.

The idea of grandparents—people who would be a part of my life—felt like a revelation, a secret i never been told.

"But why didn't you ever tell me?" I asked, my voice barely above a whisper.

To be honest I don't really care if I have grandparents or not what I care about is way didn't she tell my , there's more to it than just that , is she running away from something keeping low the more I think about it the more it seems that she is hiding she don't work , we never really been short on money , we have a strong maid and I never saw her friends.... , if my doubts are real we have an enemy and strong one at that or I'm just overthinking it.

My mother's eyes softened, and she reached across the table, placing her hand over my hand . "They're good people, Eli . They've always wanted to be a part of your life , but… things were complicated. I thought it was best to keep you away from that part of my life."

My mother squeezed my hand, her grip firm and reassuring. "Eli, they've always wanted to meet you. They've heard so much about you. This is a chance for us to start fresh, to build a relationship."

As the weight of her words settled in, i felt a flicker of excitement ignite within me . I wanted to move to Xyrus City , but i didn't no how to say it " hey mom let's move to Xyrus City " yeh fuck that, this situation is perfect .

" when ?" I asked, my voice steadier now.

"Tomorrow ," mother replied, a smile returning to her face. " pack your books for the ride, I'll take care of the rest ."

I nodded, a small smile creeping onto my lips. The thought of moving to Xyrus city ,filled me with a fire i hadn't expected. As i took a bite of my chicken, i felt a sense of anticipation bubbling within me. The world was about to change, and for the first time in a long while, i was excited .

This journey was going to be long. It's times like these that I wished modern transportation existed. In order to get to the city, we'd have to enter through one of the designated teleportation gates in the Grand Mountains, otherwise, it would easily take months to travel across towns to reach the gate below the actual city, which floated near the border of the Kingdom of Sapin and Darv.

While my mother and Riva took care of packing all of the necessities, I packed my books for the journey , By mid morning, we were ready to head out.

After tying my knapsack, containing my books and a couple of snacks, to my back , I grasped my mother's hand and followed Riva to the carriag.

"Hope in princess of the mana blade " said Riva in a joking tone.

I hopped onto the carriage turned back and stick my tongue while pulling the skin under my left eye and said " says the sour loser , old witch "

By nightfall, the once distant mountain range seemed to have doubled in size. I wondered how big the Grand Mountain Range would be when we reached the foot. Needless to say, I was excited to get out of my hometown , Ekshire .

We eventually stopped to set up camp near a small cluster of boulders. It was a good spot with the rocks blocking off nearly all of the wind and lot of scrap wood from fallen branches to use as campfire.

The one thing I detested the most about the journey is how uncomfortable the carriage is , Despite being asleep for most of the way, I still felt a bit heavy-eyed after being awake for a mere few hours .

After setting up the two tents near the fire, my mother and Riva had begun conversing about old times , Riva was my mother maid from their teenage days , by the way mom age is 28 and Riva 31 .

A couple of days passed as we finally managed to make it to the foot of the Grand Mountains, which, by the way, sure lived up to its name.

The next step of the journey was ascending up the mountains . Luckily, there was a path around two carriages wide that circled around the mountain, eventually leading to the teleportation gate at the top .

"Go ahead," Said a plate-armored guard in front of a jet black frame.

Finally, our caravan had arrived at the teleportation gates. The large frames with runes were guarded by several guards in plate armor. I was surprised to see that there was almost no one else but us. I expected something as useful as a teleportation gate to be more crowded.

However, it appeared that the Grand Mountains were not a particularly busy place to begin with, which made sense.

Mother smiled as she took my small hand in hers. "It may feel strange, but I'm here with you." She affirmed. Her warm hand was attempting to reassure me. But I wasn't afraid; I was just curious.

I nodded toward her and she snuggled up next to me.

Riva , who had been talking to the lairs to let us through, finally gave the go-ahead and the carriages started moving again. The carriage plunged into the rippling amethyst substance that comprised the portal .

My attention was drawn to this phenomenon, and my curiosity was piqued as I tried to figure out how it was possible and how it worked.

Of course, with my limited understanding of aether , it was impossible. It could not be explained by modern science either. Bending space to come out somewhere else was something humans were still a long way from discovering. The Alcubierre metric, a warp drive that works with antimatter, came the closest. Something far removed from current human civilization, or at least from the one I recall.

Our carriage approached the portal as I was thinking. When the front of it came into contact with the amethyst substance, I immediately felt an attractive force, and my world sped up.
