Chapter 1: A Roommate from the Future... Or Is She?

Yuuto Tanaka had a pretty simple life. Wake up, go to work, come home, eat instant ramen, and sleep. Rinse and repeat. It was the life of a modern-day hermit, and he liked it that way. No fuss, no drama, just peace and quiet.

That was until the day his doorbell rang.

It was a typical Tuesday evening—Yuuto had just settled in with a fresh bowl of ramen, ready to binge-watch the latest anime episode. Then, the doorbell rang. He frowned, glanced at the clock—it was nearly 8 PM.

"Who the heck is visiting me at this hour?" he muttered, shoving the bowl of ramen aside.

He dragged himself to the door, wondering if it was one of his coworkers needing something—although, honestly, he didn't have many coworkers who would bother him after hours. He opened the door, and standing in front of him was… a girl?

"Uh, can I help you?" Yuuto blinked, taking in her appearance. She was wearing a strange, old-fashioned dress. Like, way too old-fashioned, like something you'd see in a historical drama, but there was no mistaking the strange, otherworldly aura she exuded.

"I—uh…" The girl looked at him with wide eyes. Her hair was messy, her clothes wrinkled, and there was a strange, almost confused look in her eyes. "I—I need help. I think I've... I've... traveled through time?"

Yuuto stared at her blankly, unsure if he was hearing things correctly. "Time... travel?"

"Yes, exactly! Time travel!" she exclaimed, her hands raised as if she'd just discovered the secret to the universe. "I'm Nina! And I've arrived in your time, in your world! But I... I can't seem to remember anything. I'm sorry, I didn't mean to intrude. I just... I don't know what's happening."

Yuuto's first instinct was to slam the door in her face, but something about the way she spoke, so seriously yet with utter confusion, stopped him. Plus, she had that desperate look in her eyes.

"Wait, hold up," he said, rubbing his temples. "Are you... seriously claiming you're a time traveler? Because that's a pretty weird thing to say to someone when they've just answered their door."

"I know it sounds unbelievable, but I swear it's true!" Nina nodded vigorously. "I was in the future, and now I'm here. I don't know how or why it happened. But... can I stay with you for a while?"

Yuuto blinked again. "Uh, excuse me? You're asking to stay with me?"

"Well, yes!" Nina said, giving him a nervous smile. "I really don't know how to get back, and this time... I think I'm stuck here. Please, I need help. I'll be... no trouble, I promise!"

Yuuto hesitated, glancing at the small apartment he barely kept clean. He was a simple guy, and this was not how he envisioned his evening. "Look, I don't know if I'm in the mood to deal with this. You don't even know where you are."

"I know!" Nina nodded enthusiastically. "This is Tokyo, right? In the year 2025?"

Yuuto couldn't help but stare at her. "Yeah... but how do you know that? Are you some kind of... well, time traveler or something?"

"Exactly!" Nina's smile grew wider. "I'm from a time... a few hundred years ahead! But I think I've messed up. I—" She paused, her eyes scanning his apartment. "This place... it's so... modern."

Yuuto exhaled sharply, rubbing his eyes in disbelief. He had no idea what was going on, but there was one thing he knew for sure: This wasn't his usual boring Tuesday night. "Okay, look. I'm gonna need to hear the whole story from the start. You said you're a time traveler, but what exactly does that mean? And what do you want from me?"

Nina blinked, looking at him with wide, innocent eyes. "I just need to learn about your time. How does... everything work? Like, this thing—" She pointed to Yuuto's phone on the table. "What is this? It's glowing. How does it work?"

Yuuto stared at her phone and then at her. He could tell from the way she was looking at the device that she had no idea how any of it worked. He picked it up and unlocked it, holding it out to her.

"This... is a phone," he said slowly, as if speaking to a child. "It lets you call people, check the internet, send messages. You know, modern tech stuff."

"Amazing!" Nina's eyes widened with wonder as she took the phone from him. "So this is the key to communication? With this, I can talk to anyone across time?"

"Uh, no, that's not—" Yuuto started, but Nina had already begun tapping random buttons.

A moment later, Yuuto's phone buzzed, and his screen lit up. It was a notification from his bank app.

"Uh, Nina? What did you just do?"

Nina glanced at the phone in confusion, her face unreadable. "I don't know! I... made a time call? That was right, wasn't it?"

"No, no," Yuuto groaned. "That's my bank balance! How did you hack into my account?!"

Nina's face fell. "Wait, that wasn't supposed to happen?"

Yuuto quickly grabbed the phone from her, glancing at his bank account with horror. "You just wiped out all my savings!"

"Oh no!" Nina gasped. "I didn't mean to! It's just... I'm so confused! It's not like I understand any of this... modern world stuff!"

"Yeah, I can tell." Yuuto facepalmed, his frustration mounting. "Okay, I'll help you... but you need to stay away from my phone. And my bank account."

Nina nodded eagerly. "Of course! I'll do anything to repay you for your kindness. I'll cook! I'll clean! I'll... do whatever it takes!"

"Cooking and cleaning, huh? Let's see if you can even cook rice, first," Yuuto muttered, heading for the kitchen. He couldn't help but feel a little sorry for her. But at the same time, how had he ended up in this mess?

As Nina followed him to the kitchen, her eyes wide with curiosity, Yuuto couldn't help but feel like his life was about to get a lot weirder.
