Chapter 1 - Danger Inbound

An endless expanse of black that stretched as far as the eye could see, a vast emptiness where nothing existed. In one moment there was nothing, and in the next, there was light. Countless stars appeared, born of nothingness, in but a moment, the universe was formed.

You may ask yourself, how was the universe created from nothing, and so quickly. In the end, it's quite simple, the answer to your question would be, god did it, you would be right, god, or the entity known as Eryndralis, the Infinite Architect. this celestial is the first and most powerful celestial of all. It is said that all life, energy, and matter flow from Eryndralis's essence.

The legends speak of a time before time, when Eryndralis awoke in the infinite void and wove existence from the threads of its own essence. From its being, it created the first Celestials, known as the Primordial Court, to aid in maintaining the balance of the cosmos.

The first primordial: Aetherion, dubbed, the World Serpent, it is an incomprehensibly massive, serpentine Celestial with shimmering, crystalline scales that reflect the cosmos itself. Its body coils endlessly, wrapping around entire moons and planets like a living ring. Each segment of its body is adorned with glyph-like patterns that pulse with radiant, shifting colors, resembling stars in the night sky. Its head is crowned with luminous horns that emit beams of energy, and its six glowing eyes that seem to gaze into infinity. As the first primordial, Aetherion is the highest authority in the Primordial Court, responsible for maintaining the fundamental structure of the universe. It oversees the balance between the realms of existence and non-existence, ensuring neither creation nor destruction overwhelms the other.

The second primordial: Nyxoria, the Voidveil, a being made of pure darkness, her form indistinct and ever-shifting. it embodies the void, empty, silent, and incomprehensible. It's eyes are deep wells of blackness, from which no light escapes. Nyxoria represents the Void, the force of entropy and dissolution. It is the counterbalance to creation, ensuring that the universe remains finite and subject to the laws of decay.

The third primordial: Pyronis, the Flameborne. Pyronis takes the form of a towering figure of molten flame, with a body that constantly shifts between liquid fire and solid rock. It's eyes burn with the intensity of a supernova, and It's voice is a deep, rumbling roar that reverberates through the cosmos. Pyronis is the embodiment of fire, the force that destroys and creates. It governs both the birth of stars and the cleansing flames that burn away the old to make room for the new.

The third primordial: Lunaris, the Dreamweaver, a radiant figure whose body is made of liquid silver, constantly shifting and changing with lunar phases. It's eyes resemble the moon's surface, pockmarked and glowing faintly with the light of distant stars. It's hair flows like a silver river, cascading in ripples that seem to reflect the dreams of the universe. Lunaris governs dreams, illusions, and the reflective nature of moons. It balances light and dark, guiding lost souls and shaping the subconscious realms of existence.

The forth primordial: Zephyros, the Windbearer, a being of pure wind and air. Zephyros manifests as a tall humanoid figure made of swirling storm clouds, lightning crackling from it's form. It's face is obscured by a constant gust of wind, and it's body is semi-transparent, allowing any observer to see the world through it's form. It governs the skies and the air, both literally and metaphorically. It oversees the winds of change and is responsible for the breath of life that sustains the universe.

The fifth primordial: Hydrannis, the Tidecaller, a towering figure made of liquid, with a body that flows and shifts like the ocean tides. It's skin is composed of shimmering blue water that glows with bioluminescence, with hair made of flowing currents, moving as though in an eternal current. Hydrannis governs the oceans and all that flows. It controls the ebb and flow of tides, ensuring that all life cycles are in constant transformation.

The sixth, and final primordial: Gaiadon, the Earthshaper, a colossal being made of living stone, It's body covered in glowing veins of crystal. It's eyes are deep pools of emerald, and his limbs are like mighty roots that burrow deep into the ground. Gaiadon is the embodiment of earth, the force that holds everything together. He creates, nurtures, and shapes the material foundation of existence.

Together, these beings form the Primordial Court, each an embodiment of a fundamental aspect of existence. Under the guidance of Eryndralis, they maintain the delicate balance of creation, life, and death, ensuring the universe's continued stability and growth.

So far, humanity has only interacted with one primordial, Lunaris, the Dreamweaver, the one who illuminates the way for the lost, weaving visions like dreams to guide them toward their destined path. Lunaris, being the most benevolent of the primordial court, was open to conversing. After many years of guiding wayward starseekers (Aetherkin who traverse the cosmos discovering new planets), It became the guardian and one of the figureheads of the starlight fleet.

50 years has passed.

"BRRRRIIINNNG!!!"

"BRRRRIIINNNG!!!"

"BRRRRIIINNNG!!!"

The sharp clang of the school bell echoed through the hallways, signaling the end of class.

"Alright class... I hope you all remember that in one weeks time, the selection process for the starlight recruitment, will take place." spoke a beautiful woman, she has long, wavy chestnut hair with faint streaks of silver resembling starlight, tied loosely into a braid when teaching. Her eyes are a piercing cerulean blue, often described as "capturing the cosmos". She is known as Lyra Solanis.

At the sound of the bell, the students, who but a moment ago were invested in the history lesson, all got up in unison grabbing their belongings and moving towards the doors, engaging in conversation, some talking about having out with friends, while others speak of some strange rumors.

Ten minutes after the student's vacated the room, professor Solanis, who had, at the moment finished packing her things and was heading towards the door, noticed something at the corner of her eye. sleeping at the far end of the classroom, a young man with jet-black hair spiked back with one bang hanging in front of his face. Staring at him for a moment, she let out a sigh. walking over to him, professor Solaris shook the young man's shoulder, in an attempt to wake him.

"Kael... Kael... Kael... Kael!... Kael Varyn!!" Professor Solaris prompted, getting increasingly agitated at the lack of response.

After thirty seconds of continuous shaking, he slowly started to stir. "Yaaaawwwnn" opening his eyes, half closed twin amber orbs turns to the side, locking with the cerulean blue orbs of professor Solaris. "Hm?... oh hey teach... how's it going" Kael started, stretching whilst letting out another yawn.

"...How's it going?!" Professor Solanis repeated, her tone teetering on disbelief. She crossed her arms and gave him a pointed look. "Kael, class ended ten minutes ago. You've slept through the last half of my lecture. Again."

Kael blinked sluggishly, scratching the back of his head as he sat up straighter. "Ah, yeah, sorry about that. Must've been a extremely interesting topic today, huh?" he said, flashing a sheepish grin.

Professor Solanis narrowed her eyes, unimpressed. "The last half of the lecture was on advanced Aether resonance principles, materials you'll need if you plan to pass the upcoming exam. Or have you decided to rely solely on your charm to get by in life?"

Kael chuckled and leaned back in his seat, hands laced behind his head. "Hey, charm's a solid plan B. It's never let me down before."

"Well, Plan A needs some serious work," she countered sharply. "This is your future, Kael. You can't just coast through life on half-hearted effort and quick quips."

Kael's grin faltered slightly, a flicker of something unreadable crossing his face. "Yeah, yeah. I'll study, promise," he said, standing and grabbing his bag.

As he slung it over his shoulder, Professor Solanis softened, her voice gentler now. "You've got potential, Kael. But potential means nothing if you don't put in the work. You might not see it now, but you have a bright future ahead of you. Don't waste your chance."

Kael paused, glancing at her from the corner of his eye. For a moment, the weight of her words seemed to sink in. "Thanks, teach," he said quietly.

Just as he was about to walk out, Professor Solanis called out, "Wait. Before you go…" She reached into her satchel and pulled out a slim, rectangular device that pulsed faintly with an iridescent glow.

"What's that?" Kael asked, his interest piqued.

"A study aid" she said, handing it to him. "It's a prototype I've been working on, an interactive Aetheric tutor. It'll help you understand the material better, and it might even keep you awake in class."

Kael stared at the device for a moment before taking it. "Huh. Guess I've got no excuses now," he said with a wry grin.

"Please remember to use it when you get home" she replied, a small smile tugging at the corners of her lips. "Now, get out of here before I decide to give you extra homework."

Kael mock-saluted her and strolled out of the classroom, the faint hum of the device in his hand as he pondered her words. Behind him, Professor Solanis watched him go, a faint worry lingering in her gaze.

"Extraordinary, indeed," she murmured to herself, before turning off the lights and locking the classroom door.

Kael wandered through the empty hallways of the academy, the faint hum of Aether-powered lights above casting soft glows along the metallic walls. His bag hung lazily off one shoulder as his footsteps echoed in the quiet hallway. His mind, however, was elsewhere. "That dream" he muttered, "It was… strange." He rubbed his temples, trying to piece it together.

-Flashback-

He'd been floating in an endless expanse of darkness, no stars, no planets, just an infinite void. There was a suffocating stillness to it, the kind that made him feel like he was completely alone.

But then, a voice sounds out from the void.

It wasn't loud or frantic, but soft and resonant. It had been undeniably feminine, yet alien in a way he couldn't quite describe.

"Kael… Keal... help me…"

The words echoed in his mind again, making his chest tighten. There had been no explanation, no context, just that simple plea for help.

"Who's there? Help you... how? And from what?" he'd tried to ask in the dream, but his voice didn't carry in the void. He'd been rooted in place, powerless, unable to move.

Then came the sensation, a fleeting warmth brushing against his fingertips, like someone was trying to reach for him. The a faint glow, soft and silver, flickered just beyond his vision. But before he could turn towards it, before he could grasp it, everything dissolved into darkness, and he'd jolted awake to Professor Solanis shaking him.

-Flashback end-

"That wasn't just a random dream... was it?" Kael muttered to himself, furrowing his brow. It had felt too vivid, too real to simply dismiss.

He reached into his bag and pulled out the glowing device Professor Solanis had given him. Turning it over in his hands, he stared at its faintly pulsating light. The rhythm of its glow reminded him of the flicker he'd seen in the dream, and it sent a shiver down his spine.

Stopping at a large window overlooking the academy's central plaza, Kael gazed out at the bustling crowd below. Students hurried to and from their classes, oblivious to the odd unease creeping through his thoughts.

"Kael… Kael... help me…"

The voice replayed again in his head, clearer this time, as if the dream was trying to claw its way back into his reality. Shaking his head, he muttered, "Get a grip, Varyn. You're just overthinking it."

Still, he couldn't shake the nagging feeling that the dream wasn't just a dream. It was as if someone, or something, had genuinely reached out to him. But how, and why?

As Kael stared down at the glowing device in his hand, his amber eyes reflected its light. Staring at the device for a moment, he chuckled, "heh, yeah right... like anyone would want my help."

On the outskirts of the bustling city, under the shadow of a craggy mountain ridge, a group of figures moved with precision and purpose. Clad in dark, seamless uniforms adorned with an insignia resembling a fractured crown, they exuded an air of menace. Each member of the group carried advanced scanning devices, their lenses glowing faintly as they combed the area. The eerie quiet of the wilderness was broken only by their clipped commands and the soft hum of their equipment.

"Spread out!," barked the leader, a tall figure with piercing crimson eyes and an aura of authority. "It has to be here. The Aether signature was strongest in this quadrant."

The others nodded, fanning out into the rocky terrain with military precision. Their every movement betrayed a singular focus, finding whatever it was that had brought them to this desolate place.

Further away, hidden within the dense foliage of a battered grove, a faint silver light flickered intermittently. A small Celestial, lay crouched against the base of a tree, its form battered and dim. Its once-lustrous body, a delicate fusion of ethereal silver fur and shimmering, star-like scales, now bore scorch marks and deep gashes. One of its wings hung at an awkward angle, torn and useless, while the other was folded tightly against its side, trembling faintly with each labored breath.

Despite its injuries, it's eyes remained resolute. They glowed softly, a pale lavender hue swirling with distant constellations, as if the entire cosmos resided within them. It pressed itself further into the shadows, willing its light to dim, even as it sensed the advancing threat.

"Kael..." It's voice echoed within its mind, a desperate plea infused with an almost palpable sadness. "Help... please..."

The Celestial's head drooped slightly as exhaustion threatened to overtake it. Yet, it clung to the fragile thread of hope, focusing on connection it had felt since the moment it came into being, the one it knew could change everything. The one destined to save it.

In the distance, the Obsidian Crown agents closed in, their devices now emitting sharper beeps as they honed in on the faint traces of Aether energy. The leader then raised a hand, signalingto the others to halt, his gaze narrowing on the faint glow barely visible through the underbrush.

"We've got it," he said with a cruel smile. "Move in. Secure the target."

The small celestial's heart raced as it felt the impending danger, the pounding of its pulse resonating like the tolling of a distant bell. It pushed its thoughts outward once more, a desperate cry into the void.

"Kael... find me..."
