Mark heard the sound of the animal skin curtain falling, and his heart sank. He knew he had to speed up. He rubbed the rope more desperately. The pain in his wrist was numb. He could not feel anything. Only the instinct of survival drove him to continue. Finally, one of the ropes broke under the friction of the edge of the stake, making a slight "snap".
Mark was ecstatic. He quickly untied the other ropes and gently moved his numb limbs. His wrists had been worn and the blood had coagulated, forming a layer of dark red scab. He stood up carefully, trying not to make any noise. He picked up the dagger that John had left on the ground. It was cold to the touch, and the blade reflected the cold light in the dim light. He held the dagger tightly and slowly approached the door of the tent, staring at Bill and David.
David was checking the stake that Mark had been tied to before with his back to him. He touched the worn edge of the stake with his hand and frowned slightly. Bill sat in the position where John had been before, nodding his head, and he had obviously fallen asleep.
Mark took a deep breath, pounced on David, and stabbed him in the back with a dagger. "Ah!" David screamed, and his body suddenly fell forward, fell to the ground, twitched a few times and stopped moving. Blood gushed out from the wound, staining the animal skin on the ground red.
Bill was awakened by David's screams. He opened his eyes suddenly, but before he could react, Mark backhanded a knife, and the dagger pierced his throat accurately. "Uh..." Bill's eyes widened, his hands covered his throat weakly, blood gushed out from his fingers, he uttered an indistinct groan, and then fell weakly.
Mark quickly dragged the bodies of the two to the corner of the tent and covered them with animal skins. He took off David's coat and hat and put them on himself. Then he picked up Bill's spear, walked to the door of the tent, took a deep breath, lifted the animal skin curtain, and strode out of the tent.
"Ji Gu Ji Gu!"
Mark's body trembled. He didn't understand what it meant. This was the most fatal.
Mark turned around abruptly, and the muzzle of his gun subconsciously pointed at the source of the sound. A burly man stood a few meters away from the tent, holding the same rifle as Mark, with the muzzle facing Mark. The man was wearing a fur vest and had a noticeable scar on his face, extending from his left eyebrow to his chin. He stared at Mark with sharp eyes.
The air around him seemed to freeze, with only the rustling sound of leaves blowing in the wind.
Mark tried to keep himself calm, trying to imitate David's voice, pointing outside and making a urinary gesture.
The scarred man hesitated for a moment, and finally put down his shotgun. "Ji Gu Gu Ji Ji."
Mark was relieved to see the other party put down his rifle, but he remained vigilant. He turned and walked out of the camp, his steps slow and steady, trying not to let the other party see that he was different.
He took a few steps and suddenly felt a chill on his back. He instinctively lay down on the ground, and a stream of energy whistled over his head. He quickly rolled behind a boulder, his heart beating wildly.
Mark knew he was exposed. He stopped pretending, stood up suddenly, and shot the scarred man with his gun. The long gun hit the scarred man's shoulder, and he screamed, and the weapon in his hand fell to the ground.
Mark took the opportunity to run to the nearest horse, untied the reins, and climbed on the horse. He kicked the horse's belly with his heel, and the horse neighed and ran deep into the forest.
The cold wind whistled through the woods, and the leaves rustled. The horse's hooves stepped on the fallen leaves, making a dull sound. Mark held the reins tightly and looked ahead firmly. He didn't know where he was going, but he knew he had to escape from here.
He rode his horse through the dense forest and came to a stream. He got off the horse, let the horse drink water, and leaned down to scoop up the cool stream water and drink a few sips.
He looked up at the sky, and the east was already turning pale.
