Chapter 8 - 8. What's hidden behind the mask?

Cindy woke up with a flutter of excitement in her chest. Today was the day she had been waiting for—a trip to the water park with Mech, the kingdom's jester. She was eager to see him outside his usual jester attire and found herself wondering who he really was beneath the colorful costume. Did he hide something? Was he a normal human like everyone else? These thoughts filled her mind as she prepared for the day.

Cindy dressed in a bright swimsuit, her heart racing. She carefully braided her long hair and tied it back with a blue ribbon that matched the sky outside. After checking her reflection one last time, she felt ready. She walked through the castle, her sandals slipping on the polished marble floors, and knocked on Mech's door.

Mech, are you ready? she called, her voice filled with anticipation.

"Just a moment!" came the cheerful response from within.

A minute later, the door creaked open, and there stood Mech in his jester outfit, colorful and lively as ever. His face was hidden behind mask with bright colors, and his hat jingled with bells as he moved. But Cindy's curiosity grew stronger. Behind that mask and costume, who was he really?

"Wow, you look fantastic!" she exclaimed, trying to hide her worry about whether he would feel uncomfortable.

"Thank you, Princess! But today is about fun!" Mech twirled, the bells ringing as he spun. "Let's go to the water park!"

They set off through the castle gates, laughter bouncing in the air as they walked side by side. "Mech, if you don't mind me asking, Cindy began, her tone growing serious, why do you hide under all this suit?"

Mech looked thoughtful for a moment. "I don't want anyone to know me by my face," he replied quietly. "I want them to remember the joy I bring, not just who I am."

Cindy nodded, understanding that sometimes a mask can be a shield. They arrived at the water park, where the sounds of splashing water and laughter surrounded them. It was a vibrant place filled with slides, pools, and laughter. They hurried to the changing rooms, each ready to slip into swimwear.

Cindy waited outside, her excitement bubbling inside her. After a short while, Mech stepped out, and her jaw dropped as she saw him without his suit. He was tall, with a muscular build and a handsome face that seemed more real than the painted jester. The playful aura he carried was still there, but now it felt different somehow. She could hardly believe that this was the same jester who told jokes in the castle.

"Are you okay?" he laughed, noticing her wide eyes.

She shook her head, trying to gather her thoughts. "You... you look amazing!"

"Thank you! But let's not waste time; the slides are calling!" Mech grabbed her hand, and they dove into the fun. They splashed through various pools, raced down twisting slides, and played games with other visitors at the park. Laughter echoed around them, and for a moment, all their worries melted away.

"Cindy, catch me if you can!" Mech shouted as he darted away, his energy infectious. They played tag around the water with joyful abandon, feeling lighter with each splash. The sun shined brightly above them as they enjoyed the simple thrill of being young and carefree.

After hours of splashing and laughter, they made their way to one of the quieter pools, resting on the edge, their feet dangling in the cool water. Cindy turned to Mech, a smile on her face. "This was the best day ever," she said sincerely.

"I'm glad you feel that way!" Mech replied, his smile bright. "We should do this again."

"Actually," Cindy said, thinking about the happiness they shared, "would you want to go anywhere tomorrow? Just the two of us again?"

"Of course! I would love that," Mech replied, his eyes sparkling with excitement. For a moment, they both shared a look of understanding, something deeper forming between them.

As daylight faded, they left the water park, tired but happy. They returned to the castle hand in hand, still buzzing from their adventure. Cindy's heart raced a little when she thought about the next day with Mech. She could hardly wait to see him again, to explore new places with him and discover more about the man behind the jester's mask.
