The rogue lips curled into a smirk, a predatory, almost amused expression. "He thought you might say that," he said, his voice taunting. There was a knowing in his eyes, an unsettling darkness that made me feel like I was a pawn in a game I didn't fully understand. But I wasn't backing down.

The tension in the air worsened, and for a heartbeat, I thought the situation would spiral out of control. Nathan was still standing in front of me, his body tense and ready for anything. But I could feel the calm resolve in his body, the trust he had in me, even though he clearly wanted to tear those wolves apart. I could see it in the tightening of his jaw, the clenched fists at his sides. He was fighting himself, knowing I needed to take the lead in this.

And then, before I could even process what was happening, the rogues moved.
