Chereads / System Rebirth: Apocalypse / Chapter 2 - Chapter 2

Chapter 2 - Chapter 2

Jae-Hwan stepped out of the bathroom, his eyes scanning the unfamiliar surroundings. The apartment was just as he had left it before the apocalypse, yet everything felt different. The furniture, the decorations, even the air seemed to vibrate with a strange, unsettling energy.

He wandered through the rooms, his footsteps echoing off the walls. Everything was so... tidy. So clean. It was as if time had stood still, waiting for him to return.

Jae-Hwan's gaze drifted towards the window, and he felt an inexplicable pull. He walked towards the glass, his heart beating faster with each step. As he reached the window, he placed a hand on the cool surface, feeling the city's vibrations hum through his fingers.

The city sprawled before him, a tapestry of steel and concrete. People moved like ants, their lives a blur of routine and chaos. Jae-Hwan's eyes narrowed, his mind racing with the implications of his newfound reality.

How many of these people would survive the coming apocalypse? How many would fall victim to the mutants, the violence, and the destruction?

Jae-Hwan's thoughts turned to Ji-Hyun and Hwon, his anger and hatred simmering just below the surface. He had been given a second chance, and he would not waste it.

The city lights thrummed with notice and movement so different from the desolate and silent place it's destined to become in just two months. Jae-Hwan's eyes glowed with an inner fire, his determination burning brighter with each passing moment.

"I'll show them," he whispered, his voice barely audible over the wind. "I'll show them all.

Jae-Hwan's gaze turned inward, his mind consumed by the apocalypse that had ravaged the world. Two months. That's all he had to prepare for something that had caught humanity off guard.

Memories flooded his mind, each one a stark reminder of the horrors he had faced. The mutants. Ghouls with their twisted, humsn-like bodies, had seemed to emerge from nowhere. They had descended upon cities, devouring everything in their path.

Jae-Hwan's thoughts turned to Ji-Hyun and Hwon, the ones who had betrayed and killed him. He remembered the pain, the anger, and the helplessness. They had taken everything from him, murdering him and then throwing his body to the ghouls down below.

But now, Jae-Hwan had been given a second chance. And he would use it to ensure his own survival, no matter the cost. He wouldn't waste his time trying to save others or change the world. His only goal was to make it through the apocalypse alive.

With a cold determination, Jae-Hwan turned away from the window. He began to pace the room, his mind racing with strategies and plans. He would gather resources, fortify his defenses, and hone his skills. The Ultimate Apocalypse System hummed in the back of his mind, its presence a reminder of the powers at his disposal.

Jae-Hwan's eyes narrowed, his focus solely on his own survival. He would do whatever it took to make it through the coming apocalypse.

As Jae-Hwan continued to stare out the window a familiar sound pierced the air - a deep, energetic bark. His heart skipped a beat as he turned towards the noise. That was...?

A German Shepherd came bounding into the room, tail wagging furiously. Jae-Hwan's eyes widened in shock, and then a wave of joy washed over him.

It was Max.

His loyal companion, who had died protecting him in his past life, was now standing before him, very much alive.

Jae-Hwan dropped to his knees, tears of happiness streaming down his face. "Max!" he exclaimed, opening his arms wide with a smile on his face.

Max yelped in excitement, launching himself into Jae-Hwan's arms. Jae-Hwan buried his face in Max's fur, inhaling the familiar scent.

For a moment, all the pain and trauma of his past life melted away. Jae-Hwan was home, reunited with his best friend.

As he hugged Max tightly, Jae-Hwan realized that this was more than just a reunion - it was a second chance. A chance to relive memories, to recreate bonds, and to forge a new future for them both.

With Max by his side, Jae-Hwan felt a sense of purpose he hadn't felt in a long time. Together, they would face whatever the apocalypse threw their way.

Jae-Hwan's hands moved instinctively, scratching behind Max's ear. Max let out a contented sigh, his tail wagging lazily.

"I missed you, boy," Jae-Hwan whispered, his voice choked with emotion. "I promise, this time will be different. I'll be the one protecting you."

Max looked up at Jae-Hwan, his brown eyes filled with adoration. Jae-Hwan's heart swelled with love and determination.

He would do everything in his power to keep Max safe. He would prepare, train, and fight to ensure they both survived the apocalypse.

Jae-Hwan's grip on Max's fur tightened, a fierce resolve burning within him. "We'll face it together, boy. Just you and me."

Max yelped softly, as if in agreement. Jae-Hwan smiled, a sense of peace washing over him.

For the first time since his rebirth, Jae-Hwan felt a sense of hope. With Max by his side, he knew he could overcome anything.

Here's a continuation:

Jae-Hwan stood up, brushing off his pants. He glanced at Max, who was watching him with an eager expression. "Stay here, boy. I'll be back soon."

Max whined softly, but lay down obediently.

Jae-Hwan smiled, scratching Max behind the ears. "Good boy."

He headed out of the apartment, closing the door behind him. As he stepped into the hallway, he was greeted by the sight of his landlady Mrs Kim opening her apartment door.

Jae-Hwan's expression faltered for a moment, as memories flooded his mind. He remembered the seventh week of the apocalypse, when raiders had broken into Mrs. Kim's home and killed her. He recalled the sense of helplessness and grief that had overwhelmed him.

But now, here she was, alive and well. Jae-Hwan's heart swelled with emotion, as he looked at her again the sight of her mutilated body still fresh in his mind. Seeing her struggling to open her door while holding her shopping bag he stepped forward to help her.

" Do you need some help?" He offered. Mrs. Kim looked at Jae-Hwan with a puzzled expression, clearly not recognizing him. "Oh, hello there, young man. I'm afraid I don't know you. Who are you?"

Jae-Hwan smiled, adopting a friendly demeanor. "I'm Jae-Hwan's cousin Sun Jin.Im just visiting for a couple of days."

Mrs. Kim's face lit up with a warm smile. "Oh, nice to meet you! I'm Mrs. Kim, Jae-Hwan's landlady."

Just then, a beautiful young woman walked up the stairs, carrying groceries. She had long, purple hair and beautiful purple eyes .

"Mom, I'm back," she said, noticing Jae-Hwan and smiling. "Who's this?"Mrs. Kim gestured to Jae-Hwan. "This is Sun Jin, Jae-Hwan's cousin."

The young woman's eyes widened, and she giggled. "I didn't know Jae-Hwan had any family in the city atleast this one's cute!"

Mrs. Kim scolded her daughter, shaking her head. "Go inside with the groceries, dear."

The young woman apologized, still smiling, and headed inside. Mrs. Kim turned to Jae-Hwan, apologizing. "I'm so sorry about that."

Jae-Hwan waved it off. "It's okay." As he began walking away, he called over his shoulder. "Mrs. Kim, I need to tell you something."

She looked at him curiously. "What is it?"

Jae-Hwan's expression turned serious. "Something big is going to happen soon. You need to stock up on supplies, just in case."

Mrs. Kim's expression changed from curiosity to concern. "What do you mean?"

Jae-Hwan just shook his head. "Just trust me. Get prepared."

With that, he turned and walked away, leaving Mrs. Kim looking worried and unsure.

Jae-Hwan stepped outside, taking a deep breath of the crisp morning air. He looked around, taking in the familiar sights of the city. People bustled about, going about their daily business, oblivious to the impending doom.

Jae-Hwan's eyes narrowed, his mind focused on the task ahead. He had a plan, and it was time to put it into motion.

He raised his hand, hailing a taxi. One pulled up quickly, and Jae-Hwan got in.

"Where to?" the driver asked.

Jae-Hwan smiled to himself, his eyes glinting with determination.

"Just drive," he said.

The taxi pulled away from the curb, merging into the flow of traffic. Jae-Hwan leaned back, his mind racing with the challenges ahead.

The apocalypse was coming, but Jae-Hwan was ready.
