Chapter 2 - MY HOUSE

"Left"

"No right"

"Is it that hard to position this in the centre?!!!!"

I scream at the workers in my house but they all ignore me.

They ignore me like the ones before them and probably the ones after them will ignore me.

"Such insolence!"

But who can I blame? It's not their fault they can't HEAR me. It's also not their fault they can't SEE me...

"But... IT'S ALSO NOT MY FAULT THAT I'M A GHOST!!!!"

A strong gust of wind fills the hallway nearly knocking the painting out of the 2 male workers who are trying to fix the painting on the wall.

"I told you to keep the windows closed till further commands!"

"Do you know how expensive that painting is?"

Madam Nina, the manager of all the workers in my house shouts at the two men almost making me jump out of my skin.

Well, technically I'm already out of my skin.

Madam Nina in a fit of rage goes towards the window in an attempt to close the window to be met with a tightly shot windows making her go pale for a second before regaining her composure just as quick.

"Put the new painting on immediately and take the previous one back to the storage room."

Madam Nina says totally ignoring what just happened.

That gust of wind is my fault.

I'm Elsie, I'm a ghost and this is my house. Mansion to be precise.

I've been around for about 250 years now cause that was when I started counting.

I've seen life being given and it been taken, I've seen the old and the young, the weak and the healthy but no one's ever seen me but trust me they've felt me.

In the yar 1922, I made the decision to start communicating with humans and it's been tough work. Humans always view ghosts as evil beings trying to suck their souls but sometimes they are really just trying to tell you to keep your noise down, tidy your room or just taking your left over cause they look delicious.

I learnt how to move things and pick things up from one of my ghost friends in the 1930's and even though it was a joyful event, the humans had an alarming amount of heart attacks anytime something is moved around or floating in the air.

"I mean this is my house and it doesn't make sense that I have to do things not to inconvenient mere tenants"

I jump on the wooden railing on the left side of the stairs before sitting on it and sliding down the curve stairway

"It's a beautiful morning"

I stretch my body totally ignoring the fact that the gust of wind I accidentally created by shouting could have gotten those men fired. I make my way towards the freezer that has a huge sign on it that reads "ELSIE'S FREEZER" in huge bold capital letters that always makes me chuckle.

This house has had several owners but the ownership has stayed in one bloodline. It's currently belongs Andrew Garner, a wealthy business man who owns the influential Atkinson group.

I remember that particular day in the year 1952 when Andrew's father, Sergio Atkinson walked into this house with his wife Kristen. They were newlyweds and got this house as a wedding gift from Sergio's uncle who may or might have not abandoned this house because of me.

Sergio was a struggling merchant and after a year of living here things wasn't really going good for them. Apparently Kristen was infertile and Sergio was being chased by debtors. Like the angel that I am, you know I had to intervene.

I had a friend then who used to be an acupuncturist but got killed for accidentally sticking a needle in the wrong place, his ghost couldn't ascend because he felt he hadn't accomplished anything and he wandered into my house one day. So I asked him to teach my acupuncture.

I was messing around one night with the acupuncturist needles and I accidentally sticked one in Kristen's body. I wasn't sure where I sticked it because I only found the needle on their bed a week later but miraculously, A doctor visited the house and said something had changed in her body and a year later in 1954 Andrew popped out.

Andrew wasn't the only good news I accidentally created. Shortly before Andrew was born, I was having a send off alcohol with my acupuncturist teacher since he thinks I solved his grudge by making Kristen somehow fertile. I was quite emotional that night and might have messed with Sergio's business plan. I don't remember what I changed exactly but according to Sergio that was a turning point in his life and the new business plan I made for him was the foundation of Atkinson group becoming what it is today.

Unlike other inhabitants of this house, Sergio and Kristen considered this place their lucky charm but had to move out when Andrew was 13 years old and this became their vacation home.

On the day they moved out something unusual happened. I was sitting on the stairs looking at the people I've gotten used to moving out...again.

Sergio came back inside the house to get one last thing and on his way out he stopped and turned back and I could have sworn he smiled at me and muttered the word "Thank you".

"He saw me?"

"Well I couldn't confirm that because that situation never happened again."

I pick up my ice-cream and flew up to the rooftop of my house. I stare at the blue sky but I'm taken out of the beautiful sight by a squeak from beside me.

"It's a bird."

"Would you like some ice-cream?"

I chuckle and feed the bird the ice cream in my hand before it flew away. Even if the humans can't see me it's nice that something living can still see me.

. . .

The bird flew away from Elsie's house and moved towards the city when it's stomach started acting weird.

*splash*splash*

"ACKTOOEY"

A bird just pooped in my mouth!!! Halit thinks to himself as his face twists in disgust.
