Chapter 3 - Shaman or Woman

After much pressure, the shaman still decided not to talk about her son. Then the boys decided to continue their journey, but the shaman didn't stop following them and the boys decided that she would only be allowed to follow them only if she could tell them what happened to her son and that left her with no choice than to tell them what really happened to her son.

"Actually, I was just living as any other rich lady could live just about three years ago. All my life, I have always had this dream of becoming a model, which later came true, and my real name was Darren. I lived alone with Karl and my husband. Then I had a dream in which I saw many people worshiping idols and, as a non-religious person, I brushed it off as I thought it was because of the stress of the day and. Posing in the modeling room in my workplace, I had the same dream over and over again, then Karl suddenly fell Ill and I wondered what was the case. We visited many clinics and hospitals, and we were told the same thing over and over again". We have no idea what sort of illness this is, and he is not responding at all. His survival rate is so low. Then I told my husband about everything that had happened from the dream to how Karl fell Ill, thinking he might help in solving the problems on the ground, but instead he ran away early the next day and that was the last time I heard of him. Then I had another dream, but this time they were not worshiping the gods.

A person who I suspected to be a goddess came over to me and told me I had been chosen to be the next shaman after the death of my grandmother, and I was told that if my mother was still alive she would have been the next shaman and I would have grown a lot other before taking over and if I was a boy I wouldn't have taken over the curse would have ended on my mother and shamanism would have seized to exist in the world again. She also added that if I ever wanted to help Karl recover, I must be the next shaman and I had no other choice but to save Karl.

I can't become a shaman in the city, so I had to relocate to this remote place and I spent my life savings on building this small house that I use for my shamanism and two rooms for me and Karl.

"We asked what happened to your son not your life story, miss Darren, so make it snappy" Malcom cuts in, checking his watch in his left hand, worried about the time left.

"I am almost there boy, you just have to be patient," the shaman replied and continued her story.

'''Karl was just sixteen years old at that time. He would be 19 if he was still alive.

So after settling down, the gods ordered me to go to a particular river to pick it.

The book was to guide me on everything I needed to know about shamanism, and as soon as I left my home.

"It was just a 30-minute drive using a vehicle, so I took one, hoping to come back to Karl, and as soon as I got to the river. I saw the book looking like a journal with some kind of language I didn't care to understand in it"

"I picked it up immediately and went back home, only to meet Karl lying helplessly on the ground. I immediately went there to help him. He opened his eyes. I took out the journal hoping to find a way to cure him of his unknown disease, but I was just still searching. I felt his cold water on my arm. That was the last time I would see Karl's beautiful eyes open", Darren said with his eyes already full of tears.

"Oh, so does that mean that grave we saw near your house was his?" Gordon said, caring less about the emotional state of the woman.

"That is the reason I usually tell you that your brain is small. Must you ask a question that you know the answer to?" Malcom said, reminiscing on what he said to him the last time in shaman's house.

"We promised to let you come with us, so let us continue before it gets too late" Ryan said as they all continued their journey with a sad look on everyone's faces.

Just as everyone continued their journey silently, some were using their phones while some were showing some kind of tiredness on their faces and the rest, including Malcom, Ryan and Darren, were all focused on the journey, trying not to get carried away by some of the distractions causing people among them.

Malcom noticed something in Darren's hand which made him question her as it took some time for him to believe someone because he had trust issues.

"Can you tell us what is in your hand, Mrs Darren?" Malcom asked politely.

"Yes, it is a shamanism journal. It might be off help, so I brought it along." and I don't think your men and them could be enough to face the jaguar clan for as long as I know about the jaguar clan. They dress in jaguar flesh and possess a lot of local armor and magic.

They can be very brutal on any intruder, so to get there we have to plan our movements otherwise we will be dead meats in no time", Darren added.

Malcom thought about this for a while before informing Ryan about what the woman had just said. Ryan thought it was a good idea and decided to talk about it with the crew.

"Hello everyone, we need to have strategies and plan on how we move because we don't know if we should attack or talk calmly to the jaguar clan, but first we have to pass through this thick forest full of predators", Ryan said after everyone settled under the nearest tree after verifying their safety.

"We can't take their most precious jewel by just talking things out with them.

It is something they would never want to give up a city they know nothing about" Darren said and added.

"we can never be allies with them. They will think we are spies, and they are also a clan full of bad people, so we can only get it by force.

"If we can give them some of our valuable artifacts, and they will gladly give us the "EMERALD IDOL", I am sure about this" Malcom suggested.

"Do you even know how valuable this is to them? I am sure it will be kept under maximum security, so don't think any of your valuable artifacts are ever good enough to convince the jaguar clan.

"They will take it away and kill you after getting it, so you can't trust them."

"Our only option is to overcome them, which is almost impossible". Darren could only make the crew more discouraged.

"Where did you know all of this" Ryan asked, curious at how she was giving them answers like she had been there before.

"Well, I have learned a lot since I became a shaman. No more questions, let us plan on how we take our next step", Darren answered, forcing a little smile.
