Chapter 1 - echoes of the past

Chapter One

Lonely road… car… rain… fire… truck… figure… blackout.

Beep, beep, beep, beeeeeep.

Xavier sat up, still a bit sleepy, and turned off the alarm clock. He had that same horrifying dream again. He pressed his head and finally stood up from the bed to start his chores.

As Crystal Palace International School buzzed with activity, teenagers talked and raced to their lockers, hurrying for classes and adapting to high school life. Xavier walked through the hallway, his striking blue and white hair making him look cool. Apart from his model-like frame, his best friend Joan, the only one who understood him and tried to put herself in his shoes, walked beside him. They stopped at their lockers to pick up their books.

"Did you finish your history assignment?" Joan asked, putting books into her bag.

Xavier smirked, his multi-colored eyes sparkling. "Of course. I had to do something to keep my mind off everything else."

As they turned a corner, they spotted David and Rachel standing by their lockers. David waved them over, his usual cheerful smile in place.

"Hey, you two! Ready for another spectacular day at Crystal Palace?"

"forget him there's a new music club atarting up" Rachel said with a smile

Xavier's interest piqued "music club? That's kinda my thing"

Joan grinned "you should join, xavier. It might be a good distraction"

Xavier nodded in agreement, music had always been a way to forget the pain of losing his family and the tough life with his new family. The music club might help him find some peace

The bell went off, they all went to their history class. Xavier took his normal seat at the back, joan beside him. The teacher mr Thompson, started the lesson on ancient civilizations, but xavier's mind wasn't there, he looked at joan, who gave him an encouraging smile

At lunch, they all gathered at their usual spot. Xavier pulled ot his notebook, writing down some lyrics that had popped into his mind. David and Rachel chatted about the upcoming school dance festival.

"Any new memories?" She whispered

Xavier shook his head "not yet. We'll get there"

After lunch, xavier, joan, David and Rachel went to the music lab for the first meeting of the new club. The room was filled with lots of instruments and few students who also loved music.

"Welcome, everyone! I'mexcito see many of you here, music is a way to express ourselves and connectvwith others" mr Anderson, the music teacher, greeted with a warm smile

As xavier looked round the room in excitement, he sighted a grand piano, he couldn't resist walking over.

"Do you play?" Mr Anderson asked, noticing xavier's interest.

Xavier nodded. "Yeah a little."

"Why don't you play for us" he suggested

Xavier sat at the piano. He played a haunting melody, one he composed himself. Everyone was silent as they listened, they were ,captivated by rhe melody of the music. When he finished, there was a moment of silence before the room erupted in applause

"That was amazing!" Rachel exclaimed

"Yeah man. You should definitelyjoin the club" David nodded in agreement

"Thanks, i think i will" xavier felt a rare smile that caught his lips

As they walked home together, joan noticed the change in xavier

"You seemed happy in there" she said

"music helps. It'sthe only thing that makes sense sometimes" xavier shrugged

"I'm you have it, you have us too" joan nodded

"Yeah i do" xavier looked at his friends, feeling a strong bond he hadn't felt in a long time.
