Chapter 6 - Shadows in the Night

Hanxue gently comforted her. "As long as Her Highness grows up safe and sound, what else could we ask for? Even if there's no future, she'll still have the title of a princess, and survival won't be an issue."

Aunt Yue agreed, her mood lightening slightly.

Yuanjiu listened to every word without missing a single detail, gaining a deeper understanding of her situation.

Strangely, she felt a sense of relief.

Her thoughts aligned with Hanxue's: as long as she could grow up healthy, nothing else mattered.

Having been given a second chance at life, she was determined to live a life completely different from her past.

Moreover, once her powers fully returned, leaving this place would be no challenge.

The day passed in a blur of eating and sleeping.

By evening, she woke briefly, had some milk, and drifted off again.

When she woke up once more, she saw only darkness.

The steady breathing of her nursemaid filled the air, and the faint moonlight revealed Aunt Yue sleeping soundly on a couch not far away, motionless.

A cool summer breeze drifted in through the open window, maintaining the room's refreshing chill.

Suddenly, her expression shifted slightly.

Although there was no sound, she inexplicably sensed that someone was approaching.

Her assassin's instincts detected danger—there were five of them!

Were they here to kill her?

She couldn't help but let out a bitter laugh.

If her memory served her correctly, she was only five days old.

Who would have thought that someone would come for her life after just five days?

Unfortunately, her powers hadn't recovered at all.

Was she really going to die in such a humiliating death today?

Next, a shadow slipped silently through the window and landed softly on the ground.

Yuanjiu saw the figure point a finger at Aunt Yue, performing some kind of trick, and then move quietly toward the bed.

Yuanjiu quickly closed her eyes and silently attempting to activate her powers.

A faint, cold voice came from the figure in black. "Don't blame me; blame your fate for clashing with my master's."

Yuanjiu could even feel the cold glint of steel approaching.

Yet, just at that moment, the presence of four more people appeared outside, and another person entered the room.

The person by the bed abruptly withdrew.

Yuanjiu opened her eyes and saw another figure in black confronting the first.

However, this new arrival was not masked.

Although the dim moonlight obscured their face, she could make out the tall, elaborate hair bun on their head, adorned with a hairpin—it was a woman!

The first figure pushed out both palms, forming a silver barrier around themselves, and growled, "Who are you? Who sent you?"

They didn't bother lowering their voice.

It seemed Aunt Yue had already been rendered unconscious, and the same fate had likely befallen to Hanxue.

From outside, the sound of fierce combat erupted, with eight distinct presences locked in battle.

Looking out through the window, Yuanjiu could see a massive, transparent dome covering the palace above—a barrier, most likely designed to muffle sound.
