Aleckin ignored the woman's demand. He would not give in to their audacious behavior, which is very low. Thus, why would he stoop to their level?
'Hah. Who the hell do they think they are? How dare they fool us?' Aleckin grimaced with disgust at the duo before him.
"Miss Herbert, please sign it as soon as possible. I have a flight to catch."
Aleckin pushed the folder forward one more time. His supposed wife had not spoken again but remained staring at him. He noticed that she bravely met his eyes without feeling intimidated.
"What is going on?" Aleckin frowned. He couldn't retract his eyes from hers for unknown reasons, but he found himself lost in a world where only two were in it.
"Divorce Agreement?" Lina sounded, cutting off his train of thought. Feigning innocence, she inquired as she picked up the folder. She read the document headings and then threw it back on the center table without skimming the text. "How absurd your boss is! How dare he want to divorce my beautiful daughter? He abandoned her for five years, and now you show up telling us he is divorcing his wife? He is a son of a b*tch! Old Ferrero firmly promised that my Yelena would be his grandson's only wife, and he would take care of her the rest of her life!"
Listening to the older woman's rant, Aleckin stares at her with a chill. The latter shivers momentarily, but she manages to recover in no time.
Aleckin remained poised even after a piece of information was revealed. He did not care much about what Lina had said. Instead, he countered. "Madam Herbert, Old Master Ferrero made a huge mistake in arranging the marriage to the granddaughter of the Herberts five years ago. My employer is unaware that his grandfather registered his marriage with her. This is a total sham. Master Aleckin didn't consent to his marriage to a random girl."
Aleckin glanced sideways at his disgusting wife. He intentionally bad-mouths her to feel embarrassed; however, she only lowers her gaze, and those curled bangs hide her eyes.
He realized those eyes were captivating. They were so clear and innocent that they could momentarily put him in a trance. It must be the same case with his old man. He was probably hypnotized, which must be why his grandfather agreed to arrange his marriage to a foolish stranger.
"I… I want to…"
His nominal wife finally spoke. She raised her head and locked eyes with him.
Now that their gazes were fixed on each other, Aleckin was mesmerized one more time. At that moment, she sounded normal. In fact, he could barely decipher her thoughts, which left him feeling that she was wrapped in mystery.
However, given her earlier action, he is not interested in getting to know her better. He is only determined to get a divorce today and be a free man.
He's thirty and couldn't believe he was mistakenly tied down because his grandfather interfered in his private life. If he is that desperate to see him get married, there are better women to whom he could offer a contract marriage that would not tarnish his reputation.
They were from the upper class, who received higher education and learned proper etiquette from a young age.
He refused to become a laughingstock by staying married to someone with mental health issues.
Aleckin blinked and tore away his eyes from his nominal wife. He shifted his gaze toward the older lady and told her, "Now, if you aren't satisfied with the divorce alimony, let's meet in the court. I assure you. You will get nothing after this, Madam Herbert."
That was a threat, and the two women shared a knowing glance.
Aleckin, who is running out of patience, prepares to leave. He has no interest in staying anymore, but he will send his real lawyer next time.
Although he is also a licensed lawyer, he never practiced this profession but focused on managing the Ferrero Empire.
"Please come to the court once the summons letter is out," said Aleckin, picking up the folder.
However, he could not grab the folder when the older woman held it tight.
"Wait!"
Instantly, a smile forms on his lips. He knew a gold digger like her would fall for any bait if it smelled like money.
Aleckin finally relaxed. He waited for the older lady to finish skimming the Divorce Agreement. Then, he pulled a gold fountain pen carved with a dragon adorned with tiny diamonds from his inner coat pocket and placed it on the center table.
"Here's the pen if your daughter is ready to sign her name, Madam Herbert," he offered, pushing the pen toward Yelena.
Aleckin glanced at his nominal wife and saw her eyes widen in surprise. Her gaze lingered on the pen. He realized that Yelena could actually recognize an expensive item.
Of course, just one look at the fountain pen revealed that it cost a fortune. He wasn't wrong with his assumption when Yelena stretched her arm and picked up the pen, with a strange emotion visible in her eyes.
However, her mother slapped her hand and said, "Put it down! I haven't agreed to the divorce yet."
Yelena lowered her head and didn't respond. She was content to stare at the pen, suppressing the emotions swirling in her eyes.
Aleckin noticed the strange atmosphere surrounding the mother and daughter. The mother appeared keen on this marriage, while the daughter seemed less concerned. Perhaps, like him, his nominal wife was also forced into it, especially since she seemed incapable of making decisions on her own.
"Well, whatever… It is no longer my problem. I've suffered enough, and it has been such a waste of my time when I could gain nothing in this marriage but lose a fortune and hair."
Hence, what matters most to him now is getting a divorce fast. And so on—to cut the chase short—he began narrating what was printed on every page of the documents.
Of course, he memorized the contents because he typed them himself. Yes! He is that eager to get his freedom. He believes that he deserves to enjoy his life without the pressure of this meaningless marriage.
Aleckin wishes to have fun being single before he is officially tied down to the woman he prefers to marry.
"As stated, I am giving you a hefty... ahem!"
Aleckin coughed to cover his mistake of addressing himself when he pretended to be his lawyer. He pushed the rim of his eyeglasses, then continued.
"What I am saying… My boss has given you five million euros deposited in a Bellarosian Swiss Bank account, a fully furnished apartment in Mirth City, and a commercial building in the shopping district, including this manor and a brand new car park outside."
