Chapter 13 - Parents weekend.

Eli

"Do we know how the boy died?" Professor Malcom asks the dean as we all sit around the large table in the meeting room.

Mr Robinson says with a grim expression "The bruises on his body shows a werewolf attack but the bite marks on his neck shows a vampire attack. Not to mention the poison in his body." He sighs and rubs a hand over his face "We're not exactly sure which of the three was the cause of death"

I glance at Maya in mild surprise and judging by the look on her face, she's surprised too and I turn back to the dean "And what exactly do you plan on doing to find the attackers?"

"An investigation is happening as we speak but I want to keep it under wraps, I don't want the other students panicking. And I most certainly don't want the parents to find out about something this viscous when they visit for parents weekend."

We all nod in agreement and we spend the next few minutes going over a few things before Mr Robinson ends the meeting and I spot Maya heading to her office, I glance around to make sure nobody is watching before going to her office too.

She glance at me when I enter and I close the door behind me. "This was not part of the plan, Eli."

"I know that."

She starts pacing "It was supposed to be a werewolf attack. Where the hell does vampires and poison come in?"

I narrow my eyes "I'm going to assume that they all came together to help Tyler get off the hook."

She pauses and turns to me "What about the potion I gave him? I saw Tyler this morning and he surely didn't seem like someone dying."

I shake my head "I don't know, it was supposed to work and make him weak."

"Right" her eyes narrow "Do you think Bailey did a healing spell on him?"

"Can't be." I say immediately "I doubt she's in the right capacity to do spells."

She scoffs "That's what I thought too but the girl could literally light up a whole room of candles. Which I couldn't have done until I had control of my powers."

Shit.

"You might be right, perhaps she did heal him."

She steps closer to me "You need to up your game."

I raise an eyebrow "What more do you want from me, Maya? I already told the dean to assign her as my assistant to keep her close."

She trails a finger up my arm "I saw the way she looked at you, she likes you. Use that as an advantage"

My jaw clenches "You can't surely be suggesting that."

"Oh but I am" she smirks "If she thinks you like her, she'll open up to you and that'll make her vulnerable"

I scoff "I could lose my goddamn job if anyone found out."

"Then don't let anyone find out." She presses a kiss to my neck "Do it for me. For us."

I grit my teeth as I think about what to do. Getting close to Bailey? Easy. Pretending to actually like her? That's a new low. But then I glance at Maya and get reminded that she doesn't have her powers anymore because of my bastard father.

And that guilt is why I say "I'll do it."

She smirks "I knew you would." She walks to the door and locks it before walking back to me.

Bailey

My aunt looks around my room like some Resident Advisor and nods in approval "I like it."

I raise an eyebrow "What is there to like? It's basically clothes and books."

"Well I like the pictures on your wall, the candles, the witch cards." She turns to me with a small smile "It holds a personality. Your personality."

I look at it from her perspective and I get it, because growing up my room didn't have anything that linked it to me. This room does.

I glance at her "Can I ask you something?"

"Of course." She says as she takes a seat on my bed

I clear my throat before asking "Did Mr Robinson give me the scholarship because you…slept with him?"

Her lips form a thin line and she lets out a sigh before gesturing for me to have a seat next to her and I do. "I didn't want you find out that I gave myself up like something cheap because I didn't want you to think less of me."

I frown and shake my head "I would never. You did that for me and I will always be in debt to you, Aunt Lisa"

She takes my hand into her "When your parents died, I promised myself that I would give you the absolute best because that's what they would want for you. And Trinity Academy? Is what's best for you" she cups my cheek "You don't owe me a thing."

I stare at her and nod "I'm grateful, I truly am."

"I know, baby. I know."

I lay my head on her lap like I always did when I was younger as she plays with my hair, I can't help but say "I love you, Aunt Lisa."

"I love you too, Hail Bail" she calls me by the nickname my mom had for me and I find myself smiling, probably the most genuine smile I ever had in months. If not years.

My bedroom door opens and I know without a doubt it's Tyler because he's the only one who doesn't knock even though we agreed we wouldn't enter each other's rooms without permission. He pauses when he sees my aunt before a smirk makes its way on his face and he holds out a hand "I'm Tyler."

She shakes his hand and I hear the confusion in her voice when she says "Melisa."

"You must be Bailey's sister? Because you surely cannot be the aunt." Tyler says as he kisses her hand and I roll my eyes at his attempt to flirt before swatting his head away

Aunt Lisa glances between us "Is this your boyfriend?"

Tyler laughs and I say "No, he's my roommate."

Her eyes widen "You're rooming with a guy?"

"Two guys." Tyler says

She gasps and I glare at him "Out."

He raises his hands in mock surrender before leaving my room and I turn back to her "There was a mess up at the housing office and there weren't anymore available dorms left so we have to room together until year end."

She blinks "So you're rooming with two guys?"

I almost laugh at the fact that she ignored everything else and just focus on that "Yes. And another girl."

"I see" she says slowly as she processes it "And are they witches too?"

"Tyler is a werewolf and Marcus and Liliana are vampires."

Her eyes widen again and she leans closer to whisper "Are you safe here?"

Now a small laugh does escapes my mouth "I am. Believe me when I say they are sweethearts. Marcus keeps mostly to himself but he isn't a bad person to be around, Tyler is a ball of sunshine in every room that he steps into and Liliana may seem like your typical rich mean girl but she's really funny and an amazing person." I glance at her to see her looking at me with a small smile "What?"

"Nothing. You just seem…happy. I haven't heard you talk this much in forever." She sighs "I knew Trinity would do you good."

I smile and nod "Right as always."

She hums and glance at me "What about your professors? How are they?"

Without even meaning to my mind drifts to Mr Matthews and the fact that I still have his car. "They aren't too bad."

"Good." She pauses "Does Cory know you're rooming with guys?"

I grimace "Can you please not refer to the dean by his first name? It feels illegal" she snorts a laugh and I say "I do think so yes. Nothing happens on campus without his knowledge"

She nods and I think back to what we did with that boy, Mr Robinson probably found the body by now. My palms start sweating as I get reminded about how fast I mixed the poison together and injected it into him. I haven't slept since.

I'm startled out of my thoughts when I feel a hand on my shoulder and I glance to Aunt Lisa to see her watching with me with a frown "You okay?"

I clear my throat and rubs my hands on my blue and white school skirt "All good."

She stares at me and I try not to get nervous under her stare before she nods "I was just saying how cool it would be if we had dinner together with your roommates and their parents. The barrier is down for parents weekend and we could eat at a really nice restaurant off campus"

"Sure. I'll find out by the others if they want to join us." I stand up and grab my bag "I need to get to class"

"Oh? Well I'll join you."

I blink "Excuse me?"

"I'll come with you." She says as she stands up "What's the point of parents weekend if I don't get to sit with you through your class?"

She has a point but for some unknown reason I don't want her seeing Mr Matthews. He seems like the type of guy who goes for women like her. Mature, gorgeous and has her life together. And I don't want that, I want his eyes on me only.

I tuck a piece of brunette hair behind my ear before asking casually "Do you not what to see Mr Robinson? I'm sure he wants to see you."

She frowns and she's quiet for moment and I wait with a batted breath that I only let out when I see her nod "You're right, we have things to discuss."

"Yeah you go see him and I'll see you for dinner later." I press a kiss to her cheek "Love you"

"Love you too."
