Eli
I glance at the door as it opens and I stand up from the couch when Maya enters "Hey you"
"Hey" she walks over to me and presses a kiss to my lips before asking "How was work?"
"Not too bad and yours?" I ask as I wrap my arms around her waist
"It was something" she wraps her arms around my neck "Bailey came to see me."
I nod "I know, she mentioned it to me. What's the verdict on her?"
"Well it is too early to tell whether or not it'll work but she seems like an easy target." She tilts her head "Naive too."
"Right and that's why I chose her."
She frowns "I'm afraid of what will happen if the spell doesn't work."
"It will" I say firmly
"You said that the last time too and look what happened. That girl died, Eli"
My jaw clenches and I let go of her before saying "She died because her body couldn't handle the potion. Bailey is different"
Her eyes narrow "Different how?"
"She may seem like little miss sunshine, but beneath that she holds a lot of anger that's begging to get let out." I grab her hand "Trust me when I say the spell will work this time"
"Are you sure?" She asks uncertain.
"Positive" I say without hesitation "And when it does, just think about the powers we would have. We would no longer be just humans, we'll be witches again. Is that not what you want, Maya?"
She quiet for a moment before letting out a sigh "That is what I want."
"Good. Then let's take what we want." I say before kissing her.
Bailey
"This is fucken absurd!" Marcus says in outrage as he paces around the common area and Liliana and I share a glance, mine in mild concern while hers is just pure amusement. As of five minutes ago the four of us are officially roommates, there aren't anymore dorms available and we just have to house together until the end of the school year.
"It is" I say "But there's nothing we can do about it."
"Correct" Tyler says from next to me on the couch.
Marcus stops pacing to glare at us and I all but shrink into the couch to make me unnoticed "I'm not sharing a dorm with you nerds"
Liliana rolls her eyes "Oh please, I'm way more popular than you."
Tyler pipes up "And I'm more cooler than you, Marcus"
Having the urge to add something, I say "And I have better hair than you."
They all pause and glance at me, I think I may have offended Marcus but then he shakes his head as he scoffs a laugh "I guess you do."
I relax at his reaction and let out a laugh, Liliana says "Look we have no other choice to be share until the end of the year. And like Bailey said, we wouldn't have to share a room. Only the common area and the bathroom."
Marcus' jaw clenches "Fine but we need to have some rules"
"I agree" Tyler says "No candle lighting after midnight" everyone glance at me
I raise my hands in surrender "Got it. And no using the bathroom for more than 45 minutes" We all glance at Liliana
She huffs "I need to do my skincare as well"
"You can do it in your room, Lili. That's what I do." I say
"Okay fine." She glances at Marcus "No people over without letting the others know."
He stares blankly at her and Tyler says "I'll be bringing most of the time girls back but I'll be sure to give you guys a heads up"
I nod in approval and Marcus says "No entry into each other's room without permission" he says but he's staring at Liliana.
She shrugs "Fine with me."
What the hell is going on between them?
Marcus lets out a scoff before saying "And just so you know, I'm not any of your friend"
I frown a bit offended that he doesn't want to be my friend, I glance at Liliana and Tyler to see them looking unbothered by his words.
I have a feeling that I'm the only one who doesn't have friends yet. Shit, am I the nerd Marcus didn't want to room with?
I'm sitting by my desk in my room as I tap Mr Matthews pen on the book Maya gave me.
The first time I lost control of my powers and did something bad. I stare at nothing for a moment as I revisit a memory I so deeply want to forget, but I need to let it out if this could help me with my magic so I start writing.
I was eight years old, sitting on the carpet in the living room as I was colouring in my favourite colouring book when my father came home drunk, not only smelling like alcohol but also smelling like another woman. I could hear him and my mother arguing in the kitchen and I tried to drown them out as I continued colouring in but then I heard a loud smack and my mother crying. The next thing I know is my colouring book was on fire and I called for help but they were too busy arguing and fighting in the kitchen to hear me. Eight year old me didn't know for the life of me how to kill a fire so I took the cushion and hit it, hoping to stop it but it just spread onto the couch, my mom's work papers. Everything. Up in flame. I made it out okay and unharmed.
They didn't.
