Chapter 5 - The pen.

BAILEY

"Maya?" The woman glances to me "I'm Bailey, we spoke over the phone."

"Ahh, yes. Come inside, dear"

I walk into her office and close the door behind me "Mr Matthews recommended you."

"Of course," she gestures to the chair opposite her "Have a seat"

I sit down and we sit in silence for a while, it takes me an embarrassing amount of time to realize she's waiting for me to speak "Oh uhm, I need to get control of my powers"

She nods "And what seems to be the issue?"

"Well sometimes I can cast a spell perfectly fine other times it's so out of hand that I don't know I did something until I eventually see the damages I have caused"

"I see. That's perfectly understandable for a witch who hasn't been trained."

I frown "So you can fix me?"

She lets out a soft laugh "Yes, I can but it'll take some time. Tell you what, how about we meet up every Tuesday and Thursday?"

I nod "I'm fine with that."

"Perfect. I'm going to give you this book and I want you to treat it like your journal." She passes a book to me "For today I want you to go and write about the first time you lost control of your powers and did something bad"

I stare down at the book for a moment before nodding "I can do that"

"Awesome. Then I'll see you Tuesday, Bailey" She gives me a gentle smile

I find myself smiling back "See you"

I walk out and put the book into my bag before making my way to class. When I enter, I'm not at all surprised that no one is here yet, because I wanted to be early. I walk over to the professor desk and put the necklace back into the drawer before taking my usual seat in the front row. Just as I take out my notebook and pen Mr Matthews walks in and his eyebrows shot up in surprise when he sees me "Miss Harper, you're awfully early"

"I know, I got up at 6am"

Butterflies erupt in my stomach when I see his lips twitch and I count that as a win because that's the closest thing to a smile "By the way, I spoke with Maya and she is willing to help me"

He nods "I'm glad"

"Yeah thank you for the recommendation"

"No problem." He opens his drawer and pauses, I hold my breath as his eyes narrow but then the students come into the class and he closes the drawer again and I let out a sigh of relief.

The next hour is spent with Mr Matthew giving his lecture and me taking notes, by the end of it I walk past his desk but freeze when he asks "Was the party fun?"

My head snap to him "I don know what you're talking about, Mr Matthews"

He raises an eyebrow "If you didn't want me to know about the necklace that was stolen then you probably shouldn't have stolen my pen too"

Shit.

My eyes narrow "And how do you know that I was the one who stole it?"

"You're the last person I talk to after every lecture and you're the first person who was here today."

I sigh "Okay fine it was me, but please don't tell the dean. I promised him that I wouldn't get in trouble"

He hums as he crosses his arms over his chest "Rest assured I won't tell him but you cannot steal again, Miss Harper"

I rush to say "I promise I won't" he nods in approval and I take the pen out of my bag and hold it out to him "I believe this is yours."

He licks his lips and I curse inwardly when my eyes dart to it "Keep it."

I blink about a thousand times "Are you sure?"

"Positive. Perhaps it could bring you good luck from now on."

My eyes narrow and I ask with a hint of amusement "Are you saying I have bad luck, Mr Matthews?"

He hums "That's exactly what I'm saying"

I huff out a laugh before shaking my head "I'll see you Monday"

"Yes have a good weekend and stay out of trouble"

I give him a small smile and wave before walking out, resisting the urge to look over my shoulder to see if's looking at me.

I find Liliana sitting on the same spot behind the building and I take a seat on the blanket as well "Well that party was shit"

She scoffs "Tell me about it."

I frown "What even happened, Lili?"

She shakes her head "It's a long story that I'm not in the mood to explain"

I nod "And I respect that but damn you're scary when you're angry"

She rolls her eyes "Yeah so don't piss me off"

I raise my hands in surrender "I try not to" she sips from her cup and I ask "Did you perhaps hear back from the housing office?"

"No but if they didn't call either of us by the end of the day then I'll go over and see what the issue is"

I nod before eating my banana and she takes another sip from her cup and a drop of red spills on her lips, I frown when her tongue darts out to lick it away and I see how red her tongue is.

My eyes widen and whisper-yells "Are drinking blood right now?!"

"Yes, why?" She asks unbothered.

"Is that even allowed? I thought the vampires here are supposed to survive on animal blood."

"And I do, I just craved a bit of human blood but you don't need to get your panties in a twist because I didn't kill anyone for it."

My eyes narrow "Then where did you get it?"

"Some guy is selling it in packets" she shrugs "Like some blood drug dealer"

I laugh because the thought is so funny to me that someone is selling human blood to the vampires on campus like a drug dealer. I glance at Liliana again to find her lips parted as she stares intently at something to the side and I follow her eyes, I frown when I see Marcus sitting on one of the benches smoking a cigarette. I turn back to look at Liliana a bit surprised that she's staring at Marcus like he's the most beautiful art she has ever seen. I smile to myself as I think about her having a crush on him but I don't question her, if she wanted me to know about it then she would've told me.
