Chapter 10 - Chapter 9 – Dinner Guest

The Invitation That Couldn't Be Ignored

The X-Mansion had been oddly peaceful for once. No fights, no dungeon raids, no near-death experiences—just a lazy, comfortable evening.

Sonic was sprawled out on the massive sectional couch, flipping through channels at super speed, stopping just long enough to groan in disappointment before moving on to the next.

Jasper sat at the kitchen island, using his newfound super strength to crack open a bag of chips—only to accidentally tear the entire bag in half, sending chips flying across the floor.

"Are you serious?!" Jasper groaned, watching as half his snack scattered like confetti.

Fasha, standing by the window, didn't even glance at him. "You're the worst Super Soldier I've ever seen."

Jasper threw his hands up. "Oh, I'm sorry, Miss Alien Warrior! I didn't ask for this freaky strength!"

"Yeah, well, you didn't get a choice either," Fasha smirked.

Jasper muttered something about "lawsuits" under his breath while trying to salvage what remained of his dignity.

Marceline, however, was focused on something much bigger.

She sat at the mansion's high-tech command center, fingers tapping against the sleek, glowing interface. On the screen in front of her, a small digital message was being prepped for delivery—one that was about to shake the World's Greatest Detective to his core.

She leaned back, a smug smirk playing on her lips.

"Alright, Bats, let's see how fast you take the bait," she muttered.

She tapped send.

The message?

A personal invitation.

Delivered directly into the Batcomputer, bypassing every security measure the Batcave had.

To: Bruce Wayne

From: Someone Who Knows Too Much

Dear Bruce,

We need to talk. I know who you are. I know what you do. And I know where you keep the keys to the Batmobile.

Come to the mansion. Let's have a chat.

Or don't. But just so you know… if you ignore this?

I might just have a very public conversation about a certain billionaire's nighttime activities.

Your call.

Sincerely,

Dawnstar

P.S. I made sure Alfred saw this too. Just so we're clear, even he knows you should come.

Sonic, watching over her shoulder, let out a low whistle.

"Wow. You really wanna piss him off, huh?"

Marceline grinned. "If he wasn't paranoid before, he definitely is now."

Jasper, brushing chip crumbs off his shirt, squinted. "Wait—wait—hold up. You blackmailed Batman?!"

Marceline waved him off. "Oh, please. I just encouraged him to come over for a friendly chat."

Jasper's jaw dropped. "That is not encouragement! That's like shaking a beehive and waiting to see what happens!"

Fasha smirked. "Good. I was getting bored."

Sonic stretched lazily. "So, what's the over-under on how long it takes for him to show up?"

Marceline shrugged. "Depends on how pissed off he is."

And, right on cue—

A deep, commanding voice echoed from behind them.

"You really shouldn't have done that."

Everyone whipped around.

Batman was already inside.

A Standoff at the Dinner Table

Bruce Wayne stood near the entrance of the room, still in his civilian clothes—but that did nothing to lessen the sheer presence he carried.

No one had heard him come in.

No one had even sensed him.

But there he was.

Sonic blinked. "Oh. Uh. Hi?"

Jasper, clearly distressed, grabbed the nearest kitchen knife and held it up like it was a holy relic. "I—I'm so not ready for this."

Fasha didn't even blink. "Took you long enough."

Marceline, unfazed, simply smirked. "Oh, Bruce. I knew you'd come."

Bruce's expression was unreadable. "What do you want?"

She motioned to the empty seat across from her at the dining table. "Sit. Let's talk."

Bruce didn't move. "If you think you can threaten me into working with you, you're wrong."

Marceline sighed dramatically. "Oh, relax, World's Most Paranoid Man. I'm not here to expose you. That was just… motivation."

His gaze narrowed.

"You're reckless," Bruce stated. "Gotham already has enough chaos. You and your Defenders are making it worse."

Marceline raised an eyebrow. "Last I checked, we were stopping robberies, taking down rogue criminals, and, oh yeah—keeping Arkham inmates from wrecking the city."

Bruce's expression didn't change. "And drawing more attention to yourself in the process."

Marceline leaned forward, locking eyes with him.

"You and I both know Gotham isn't getting better anytime soon. You do your thing, I do mine. We can work together, or you can spend the next year wasting time trying to stop me."

Bruce remained stone-faced, but there was a flicker of calculation in his gaze.

"You think I won't?" he asked.

Marceline's smirk widened. "I know you won't. Because deep down? You know Gotham needs more than just you."

The tension in the room was thick enough to cut with a knife.

Sonic whispered to Jasper, "Should we, like… do something?"

Jasper whispered back, "No. They're having a Batman-Off. If we move, we might die."

Bruce finally exhaled through his nose, eyes cool but unreadable.

"I'm watching you," he said.

Marceline's smirk didn't falter. "You should. It's gonna be one hell of a show."

For the first time since he arrived, Bruce's lips tugged upward slightly—just a hint of amusement, gone as quickly as it appeared.

Without another word, he turned, disappearing into the shadows of the hallway as if he had never been there at all.

Once the door clicked shut, Sonic let out a massive breath. "Okay, that was intense."

Jasper threw his hands up. "WHY ARE WE ANTAGONIZING BATMAN?!"

Fasha smirked. "Because it's fun."

Marceline stretched, yawning. "Well, that went well."

Sonic stared at her. "WELL?! You just threatened Batman, and you think that went WELL?!"

Marceline shrugged. "He'll be back."

Jasper looked horrified. "WHY?!"

She smirked. "Because I got under his skin."

Fasha chuckled. "You definitely did."

Sonic sighed. "I give it two days before he shows up again."

Jasper muttered, "I'm betting tomorrow night. He's definitely outside in the trees right now, watching us like a vampire owl."

Marceline leaned back, arms crossed behind her head, feeling very satisfied with herself.

"Good," she said. "Means we made an impression."

And, somewhere in the Gotham night, Bruce Wayne was already re-evaluating everything he thought he knew about Dawnstar.

Chapter 9: Part 2 – Power-Ups, Gacha Luck, and Unlocking the Arsenal

The sun barely crept through the massive windows of the X-Mansion, casting a golden glow over the War Room where Marceline sat, legs propped up on the console, sipping coffee. The glow of the system interface flickered before her, waiting for her next move.

After the insanity of the past few days—fighting villains, running from Gotham PD, getting into a stare-down with Batman—Marceline knew one thing for sure.

It was time to level up.

Morning at the Mansion

Jasper sat across the table, groaning as he struggled to use his newfound super strength to open a bottle of orange juice without crushing it into oblivion.

"Ugh, I swear to God, I'm too strong now. Everything just... breaks!"

Sonic was sprawled across the couch, flipping through TV channels at super speed. "Dude, just accept your fate and drink from the carton like a caveman."

Fasha, sharpening her blade in the corner, barely looked up. "Or learn control."

Jasper shot her a flat look. "I hate you."

Marceline, barely listening, tapped through her system upgrades. She had a ton of points from recent missions, and it was time to spend them all.

She cracked her knuckles. "Alright, let's max out some stats."

Jasper, who had fallen out of his chair from the energy blast, groaned. "WHAT. THE. HELL."

Fasha smirked. "Finally, some real power."

Marceline, grinning, waved her hand—her aura flickered as the energy settled back into her.

"Yeah. That felt awesome."

Unlocking Healing Magic

A small magic tome materialized on the table in front of her. The cover glowed softly, titled "Healing Magic for Beginners."

She picked it up, flipping through the pages. As she did, a warm golden light wrapped around her, signaling the unlocking of a new magical branch.

Healing Magic (Level 1 – Beginner)

New Spells:

Minor Mend: Small healing spell that restores minor injuries.

Purify: Removes poisons, curses, or infections.

Blessed Light: Creates a slow health regeneration aura around allies.

Marceline nodded. "Alright, now we're talking. This is gonna come in handy."

Jasper, rubbing his forehead, sighed. "Please don't test this on me. I've already been violently injected with a serum this week."

Marceline just grinned. "No promises."

---

The Gacha Pull – 10 Random Items

Marceline, holding up the Surprise Summon Token, smirked. "Damn right we are."

She activated the token.

A golden portal erupted in the center of the room, crackling with mystical energy.

As the figure materialized, the group waited in anticipation.

The light faded—revealing...

"Good."

Chapter 9: Part 3 – Testing the Limits

---

The X-Mansion's Danger Room had become a regular stomping ground for The Defenders, but tonight was different.

Tonight was the first time Marceline would enter after maxing out her Light Magic.

After unlocking Ascended Form, Celestial Domain, and Solar Nova Burst, she needed to see what she was truly capable of—and if she had finally hit the ceiling of her power… or if she was still just getting started.

---

Prepping for the Fight

Marceline stood in front of the Danger Room's control panel, eyes gleaming as she cycled through the available settings.

Sonic, lounging against the wall, smirked. "So, what're we up against today, O' Mighty Glowing One?"

Jasper groaned, already tired, even though the fight hadn't even started. "I swear to god, if it's another Kaiju-level boss, I'm gonna cry."

Fasha, standing with arms crossed, raised an eyebrow. "You're still acting like we have a choice."

Marceline grinned. "Oh, you definitely don't have a choice."

She selected Scenario: Post-Apocalyptic Gotham City – Titan Siege and cranked up the difficulty.

5X Gravity.

Adaptive AI Opponents.

Nightmare Mode: On.

Jasper stared at the screen in horror. "I—you—WHAT?!"

Marceline tapped confirm.

The room shuddered as the environment shifted, the walls morphing, the ceiling vanishing into a blood-red sky, the smell of burning metal and destruction filling the air.

They were no longer inside a simulation.

They were in hell.

---

Gravity Hits – Adjusting to the Pressure

The moment the simulation solidified, the team dropped.

The 5X gravity hit like a truck, making even Sonic and Fasha pause for a second to adjust.

Jasper, of course, face-planted immediately.

"I HATE THIS PLACE!"

Marceline, however?

She didn't even flinch.

Instead, golden energy naturally wrapped around her body, adapting to the new environment automatically.

Sonic noticed and whistled. "Okay, what the hell. You didn't even react to the gravity boost."

Fasha smirked. "Tch. Must be nice being overpowered."

Marceline shrugged, stretching casually. "Honestly? Feels like nothing."

Then, the Titan War Machines arrived.

---

The Battle Begins

The ground trembled.

Metallic war machines, each one towering like skyscrapers, stomped through the ruined streets—glowing red circuitry lining their frames, cannons the size of buses charging with energy.

Titan-Class Enemies Detected – Simulation Difficulty: Nightmare Mode

Jasper looked up, mouth open. "WHY ARE THEY SO BIG?!"

Marceline cracked her neck. "Alright. Let's see what this new power can do."

The first Titan swung down a massive blade-like arm, aiming to wipe them out in one strike.

Marceline vanished.

Not blinked away. Not dodged.

She just straight-up disappeared.

Before the Titan even finished its swing, Marceline was already standing on top of its head, light blade humming in her hand.

"Yeah," she muttered, grinning. "I'm definitely faster now."

Then, she slashed downward—

And the entire Titan split in half.

The others watched in stunned silence as the 50-story war machine collapsed like a stack of cards, crumbling into a pile of molten scrap.

Jasper: "WHAT THE ACTUAL HELL—"

Sonic: "Okay. That was insane."

Fasha just smirked. "Tch. About time she started flexing properly."

---

Round Two – The Executioners

The simulation adapted.

The remaining Titans backed off, and a new set of enemies emerged.

Ten Executioner-Class War Machines.

Each one smaller than the original Titans, but far faster, stronger, and built purely for combat.

Their glowing red eyes locked onto Marceline.

They knew who the real threat was.

Jasper took a half step back. "I don't like that they're ignoring us."

Fasha grinned. "Tch. Then let's remind them why that's a mistake."

She vanished forward, crashing into one of the Executioners at full speed, punching straight through its core.

Sonic blitzed between two others, slashing them apart with super-speed attacks.

Jasper, finally adjusting to the gravity, leaped forward and delivered a full-force punch to another Executioner's head—

And the entire machine exploded on impact.

Marceline, meanwhile?

She let them handle the small fry.

She wanted the biggest one.

---

The Final Boss – Overlord Nemesis

The sky darkened.

The ground shook.

And then, the final enemy descended from above.

A colossal war machine, twice the size of the original Titans, with six mechanical arms, each wielding a different kind of energy weapon.

Overlord Nemesis – Nightmare Mode – LETHAL COMBAT ENGAGED

Jasper, who had just gotten cocky, froze. "NOPE. I'M OUT. WE'RE DEAD."

Sonic whistled. "Okay, even I think this one's ridiculous."

Fasha cracked her knuckles. "Tch. Looks fun."

Marceline, still completely unbothered, floated into the air, her golden aura flaring up.

She activated Ascended Form.

Her entire body shifted into pure celestial energy, her golden wings of light expanding, her eyes glowing with cosmic radiance.

Jasper: "OH MY GOD SHE'S GOING FULL GOD MODE—"

Sonic: "Yeah, this is about to be so unfair."

Marceline vanished in a blink of pure light-speed movement, appearing right in front of Overlord Nemesis's chest.

The colossal machine fired every weapon at once.

Massive plasma beams, energy missiles, and explosive lasers—

All converging on her at once.

Marceline raised a single hand.

And negated all of it.

The attacks disintegrated on contact with her Celestial Domain, flickering into harmless light.

Then, she raised her blade.

And in one final, blinding explosion of divine energy—

She obliterated Overlord Nemesis from existence.

---

Simulation Ended – Danger Room Resetting

The apocalypse faded, the room returning to its normal metal walls.

Jasper collapsed onto the floor. "I hate this place."

Sonic, wiping sweat from his forehead, muttered, "Okay, so, uh… we're not on her level anymore."

Fasha just smirked. "Tch. You say that like we ever were."

Marceline landed gently, her aura fading.

She grinned. "That was fun."

Jasper groaned. "FOR WHO?!"

Marceline just stretched. "Alright. Who's up for round two?"

If this was her current power level?

She couldn't wait to see how much further she could go.

Chapter 9: Part 4 – Suit Up, Jasper!

The X-Mansion's Lab wasn't usually the place for fashion design, but today, that's exactly what was happening.

Jasper sat in the middle of the high-tech laboratory, arms crossed, looking mildly annoyed as Marceline enthusiastically flipped through the holographic costume designer.

"Remind me again why I need a suit?" Jasper asked, already questioning his life choices.

Marceline, grinning like a madwoman, tapped through different suit templates. "Because we're not fighting crime in jeans and a hoodie, Jasper."

Sonic, lounging upside down on a chair, grinning, added, "Yeah, man, come on. If you're gonna be a superhero, you might as well look the part."

Jasper groaned. "Who said I'm gonna be a superhero?"

Fasha, leaning against the counter, arms crossed, smirked. "Tch. You're living in a superhero mansion, wearing a super suit, hanging out with a girl who can shoot lasers from her hands, a hedgehog that defies physics, and a Saiyan."

She tilted her head. "You tell me."

Jasper blinked. "…I hate that you're technically right."

Marceline snickered. "Welcome to the team, buddy."

---

Marceline's Suit-Making Process – Where Chaos Meets Creativity

Marceline flicked her fingers, flipping through different suit designs, all of which ranged from sleek and stylish to absolutely ridiculous.

"Alright, let's talk vision," she said, pulling up a holographic model of Jasper, dressing it in different costumes. "Do you wanna go edgy anti-hero, charismatic rogue, or full-on sci-fi warrior?"

Jasper leaned forward, studying the options. "First of all, no capes. Ever."

Sonic shot up, fist-pumping. "YES! FINALLY! SOMEONE ELSE WHO GETS IT!"

Marceline erased all the capes. "No capes. Got it. Next?"

Jasper rubbed his chin thoughtfully. "I'm thinking black and gold—something sleek, but not too try-hard."

Sonic squinted. "Dude, you're literally describing a JoJo character."

Jasper shrugged. "JoJo characters have drip. Not my fault."

Marceline snorted but started adjusting the design. "Alright. No capes. Black and gold. I can work with that."

---

The Final Suit Reveal – Meet Black Nova

After fifteen minutes of chaotic brainstorming, Marceline finally locked in the final design.

Jasper stood up as the suit materialized on the mannequin in front of him.

He whistled. "Oh damn. That's… actually sick."

---

Jasper's Superhero Suit – Black Nova

✔ Form-Fitting, Flexible Combat Suit – Optimized for speed and agility without restricting movement.

✔ Black & Gold Color Scheme – Sleek, stylish, and slightly intimidating.

✔ Reinforced Weave Armor – Lightweight, bullet-resistant fabric lined with a shock-absorption layer.

✔ Glove & Boot Enhancements – Increased impact force for punches and kicks.

✔ HUD-Integrated Mask – Covers the lower half of the face, voice modulator included.

✔ Grappling Hook System – For swift movement and mobility in combat.

---

Jasper turned to the mirror, adjusting the suit, grinning.

"Alright," he said, "I look badass."

Marceline crossed her arms, smirking. "I do have an eye for design."

Sonic nodded. "Gotta say, man, that's probably the most competent you've ever looked."

Jasper rolled his eyes. "Wow. Thanks."

Fasha, smirking, tilted her head. "Tch. Now you just need a name."

Jasper froze. "Oh… crap."

---

The Nickname Debate – How NOT to Name a Hero

Sonic immediately threw out, "Captain Punch!"

Fasha deadpanned. "That's awful."

Marceline shook her head. "Sonic, you are banned from naming things."

Sonic looked offended. "Hey! I named myself!"

Jasper ignored them, deep in thought.

"I want something that sounds powerful but not cliché. Something that feels like a force of nature."

Sonic snapped his fingers. "Shockwave?"

Marceline sighed. "Too much like a Transformer."

Jasper rubbed his chin. "Black Nova?"

Fasha nodded approvingly. "Tch. Not bad. Sounds powerful."

Marceline grinned. "Alright. That's the one."

Jasper smirked, rolling his shoulders. "Black Nova it is."

---

Finalizing the Look

With his new identity locked in, Jasper turned toward the group, grinning.

"So, how do I look?"

Marceline mock-wiped a tear. "Our little side character is all grown up."

Sonic snorted. "Dude, you're literally a Bronze-tier summon."

Jasper crossed his arms. "I'm about to be a Gold-tier problem."

Fasha smirked. "Tch. We'll see."

Jasper grinned, punching his fists together.

Marceline patted his shoulder. "Alright. Suit's done. Let's go break it in."

Sonic cracked his knuckles. "Hell yeah. Time to hit the streets!"

Fasha smirked. "Tch. Try to keep up, Nova."

Jasper grinned, hyped up for the first time ever. "Oh, I'm so ready for this."
