Chapter 15 - The Traitor in our Midst

As they drove, the silence between them was comfortable, a sense of trust and understanding growing between them.

After a while, Agent Jackson spoke up, his voice low and serious. "Emily, I need to ask you something."

Emily turned to him, her eyes curious. "What is it?" she asked.

Agent Jackson hesitated, his eyes flicking towards the rearview mirror before returning to the road. "Do you remember anything about your past?" he asked.

Emily's brow furrowed as she thought back. She remembered fragments, snippets of memories that didn't quite add up.

"I remember my parents," Emily said, her voice barely above a whisper. "I remember the day they died."

Agent Jackson's eyes locked onto hers, his expression intense. "What do you remember about that day?" he asked.

Emily's eyes dropped, her mind racing back to the memories she had tried to suppress. "I remember the fire," she said. "I remember the screams."

Agent Jackson's expression softened, his eyes filled with compassion. "I'm sorry, Emily," he said. "I'm so sorry you had to go through that."

Emily's eyes welled up with tears as she looked at Agent Jackson. No one had ever shown her such kindness, such understanding.

But as she looked at him, Emily realized that Agent Jackson was hiding something. She saw a flicker of doubt in his eyes, a hint of uncertainty.

"What is it?" Emily asked, her voice firm. "What are you not telling me?"

Agent Jackson's expression turned guarded, his eyes locked onto the road ahead. "Nothing, Emily," he said. "I'm just trying to keep you safe."

But Emily knew that he was lying. She knew that there was something more, something that Agent Jackson wasn't telling her.

Here is the start of Chapter 15:

Chapter 15: "Betrayal"

"It means we have to get out of here, now," Agent Jackson said, his eyes locked onto Emily's.

Emily's heart racing, she nodded, her mind spinning with questions. Who had tipped off the FBI? And why?

Agent Jackson's face was set in a determined expression as he floored it, speeding away from the danger that lurked around every corner.

As they drove, Emily's eyes scanned the streets, searching for any sign of pursuit. But the streets were empty, the only sound the hum of the engine and the beat of Emily's heart.

Suddenly, Agent Jackson's phone buzzed again. He glanced at the screen, his expression darkening.

"What is it?" Emily asked, her voice barely above a whisper.

Agent Jackson's eyes locked onto hers, his expression grim. "It's a text from an unknown number," he said. "It says, 'You'll never be able to protect her'."

Emily's eyes widened as she realized the implications. The person who had tipped off the FBI was still out there, watching them.

Agent Jackson's eyes flicked towards the rearview mirror, his jaw clenched in determination. "Hold on," he muttered.

The car surged forward, speeding through the streets as Agent Jackson expertly evaded their pursuers. Emily's heart was racing, her mind spinning with questions.

Who was behind the menacing text messages? And how did they always seem to be one step ahead?

And then, Emily's eyes locked onto Agent Jackson's, a sudden realization dawning on her.

Could Agent Jackson be the traitor?

Emily's eyes narrowed as she watched Agent Jackson, her mind racing with doubts. Could she really trust him? Or was he playing her all along?

Agent Jackson's expression was calm and collected, but Emily noticed a faint flicker in his eyes. Was it guilt? Or was she just imagining things?
