Chapter 2 - CHAPTER 2: In the Moonlight

Syulia gazed at Fritz, her eyes shimmering like the moonlight illuminating the dark night. "I am not an ordinary human," she said softly. "I am the guardian of the moon. Once, I was entrusted to maintain the balance between light and darkness. But a curse has separated me from the moon, trapping me in this world."

Fritz listened intently. Every word Syulia uttered felt like a melody calling to his soul. "The guardian of the moon? You mean the moon up there in the night sky?" he asked, his eyes glancing toward the silver glow above.

Syulia nodded gently. "Yes. The moon is more than just a glowing object in the sky. It is a symbol of hope, balance, and protection. But now, I can no longer guard this world as I once did. The curse has weakened me. Only with the help of someone pure of heart, someone brave enough to face darkness with the light in their soul, can I possibly be free."

Fritz felt something stirring within him, a connection to this girl that he could not explain. "What can I do to help you?" he asked earnestly.

Syulia looked at Fritz with a soft, yet sorrowful gaze. "I must reach an ancient temple located at the mountain's peak. There, this curse might be broken. But the journey is fraught with danger. You don't have to come if you're unsure, Fritz. This is not an easy task."

Fritz tightened his grip on his bow. "I don't know what awaits us, but I know one thing—I want to help you. I won't let you face this alone. If I can protect you with this bow, I'll do it."

Syulia smiled, a smile filled with gratitude and hope. "Thank you, Fritz. You don't know how much this means to me."

That night, they began their walk into the dark forest, embarking on a journey whose end they could not foresee. The forest was alive with the sound of crickets, rustling leaves swaying in the gentle night breeze, and an almost mystical stillness.

"I feel like this forest is alive," Fritz said, glancing around. "It's as if it knows we're here."

Syulia looked at the towering trees surrounding them. "This forest is part of the moon's domain. There are beings here that protect it, but there are also those who may try to stop us."

As they continued walking, Syulia shared more of her story. She explained how she once guarded the moon and the human world from the threats of darkness. But one day, a dark entity, jealous of the peace she brought, created the curse to sever her from her power.

"Since then, I've been trapped in the human world, stripped of my strength and my purpose," Syulia said. "All I could do was hope that someone would come to help me return to where I belong."

Fritz nodded, trying to grasp the weight of the burden Syulia carried. "You've carried this alone for too long," he said softly. "Now you have me. We'll face this together."

Suddenly, the sound of snapping branches echoed around them. Fritz quickly assumed a defensive position, bow drawn and arrow ready. "Who's there?" he called out, his voice firm but cautious.

From the shadows emerged a pair of glowing eyes. A creature, wolf-like but larger and more menacing, stepped into the light. Syulia gently touched Fritz's arm. "Don't attack," she said. "It's not our enemy."

Fritz looked at Syulia in disbelief. "What do you mean? It doesn't exactly look friendly."

Syulia stepped forward calmly, approaching the creature with steady confidence. "This is a guardian of the forest," she explained. "It only wants to ensure we are allies, not threats."

Speaking in a language Fritz didn't understand, Syulia addressed the creature. It seemed to understand her, bowing its head slightly before retreating into the shadows.

Fritz exhaled deeply. "I was this close to shooting it," he muttered.

Syulia smiled. "Sometimes, strength isn't always the answer. We need to learn to listen and understand."

That night, they paused to rest in the middle of the forest. Fritz lit a small fire, and the two sat nearby, soaking in the warmth in the cool night air.

"Syulia, why me?" Fritz suddenly asked. "Why did you choose me to help you?"

Syulia stared into the fire, her expression distant. "I didn't choose you, Fritz. The moon did. There's something inside you—something I can't explain, but I know it's there. You are the light in my darkness."

Fritz sat in silence for a moment, her words touching him in a way he had never felt before. He didn't know what lay ahead, but he knew one thing for sure—he would do whatever it took to protect Syulia, the moon's guardian who had forever changed his life.
