Ella sat at her desk, fingers flying across the keyboard as she tried to finish up all the pending reports.

The ringing tone of her phone distracted her and she glanced to find an unfamiliar number flashed on the screen.

Frowning, she hesitated. 'Who could this be?' she wondered.

Her curiosity won over caution. Picking the phone, she pressed the answer button.

"Hello?"

The voice that greeted her was deep, smooth, and unmistakably familiar. Ella blinked. Her grip on the phone tightened slightly.

There was no need for introductions. That voice...polished yet laced with amusement, was one she couldn't mistake.

"You called me?" she asked, disbelief evident in her voice.

Alexander chuckled, low and rich. "Why do you sound so surprised?"

"Oh, I don't know," she said, leaning back in her chair. "Maybe because you've never called before? I was starting to think I was too insignificant to have your contact saved."
